Car Accident

Read with caution, loves.

No death, but there is an accident, as it says in the book.

This one-shot is dedicated to my sister, stepsister, niece, and best friend, all of who have been in car accidents this year.

I'm so thankful they're okay, even if the cars didn't end up okay.

Anyway...

On with the story!

"Daaaaaaaaaaadddd," Mitch drawled out, walking into his parents' room. Avi looked up from his book, raising an eyebrow curiously. "I have a question."

"If it's about wanting to adopt another hairless cat, I don't want to hear about it," Kevin spoke up, walking out of the bathroom. Mitch rolled his eyes playfully and smirked before talking.

"Anyway, could I ask you guys a question?"

"You already did," Avi murmured, laughing when Mitch walked over and threw a pillow at him. "What's your question?"

"I was just wondering if I could borrow the car just to pick up some stuff for a project I'm doing for school," Mitch replied anxiously, tapping his fingers against the fabric of his pants. Avi and Kevin shared a look, not knowing how to respond. "Please? I'm eighteen and I have my license. I also have gas money and I'll wear my seatbelt and leave my phone in the cup holder and-"

"Mitch, we have an old car," Avi spoke softly, shaking his head. Mitch nodded, sighing quietly as he accepted his dad's answer. "I trust you because you are a smart driver and all, but the car we have now is older than you. Scott and Kirstie have their own cars and they drive them because they're safe. I just don't know, Mi-"

"Yes."

"Really?!"

"Kevin!"

"What?" Kevin asked, handing the keys over to Mitch. Mitch took them excitedly, giggling a wrapped the key ring around his pinkie. "Mitch is the safest driver we know. He's the one that almost threw his phone out of the window when he took his driver's test."

"Yeah, but-"

"Dad," Mitch spoke up, begging a bit as he cupped his hands together. "I'll be safe. Nothing will happen. I'm smart."

Avi sighed, trying to push away the thoughts of his child being hurt. Mitch could be-

No.

Avi pushed those thoughts away, nodding only to get a squeal and a tight hug right away.

"THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I'LL BE SAFE AND I'LL PICK UP DINNER! I LOVE YOU GUYS!"

"Love you too, kiddo," Avi called back, shaking his head as he smiled at Kevin. "Man, we have amazing kids."

"That is a fact even science can't disprove."

The couple laughed, oblivious to the events that will happen later.

~~~
Mitch jumped in the car and turned off his phone, putting it into the cup holder before turning on the car and driving off. He thought about turning on the radio, but he refused.
Getting distracted was the last thing on his mind.
What do I have to get now?
Mitch hummed quietly, tapping his fingers to whatever he was humming when the inevitable happened.
Traffic.
"Ugh, are you serious?" Mitch asked, shaking his head as he huffed quietly. He turned on the radio, turning it down to five. "Do not get distracted. Pretend your phone isn't there."
The music playing on the radio made Mitch more anxious, making him turn it off as the traffic moved a bit. He smiled only to frown once more when the traffic only moved half an inch.
An inch.
"My great grandma is faster than you," Mitch murmured angrily, shaking his head when an officer walked up to window and tapped on it.
Great. This is what happens when you get distracted.
Mitch rolled down his window, taking a deep breath before forcing an anxious smile on his face.
"I'm sorry, officer. What's the problem?"
"You're not in trouble so don't worry about apologizing. Unfortunately, there are train tracks ahead and the train is going backwards for some reason. You will be able to drive again in five minutes."
"Okay," Mitch replied, taking a deep breath before nodding. "Thank you so much. I hope you have an amazing day."
"You too, son."
(Don't call me son.)
Mitch rolled his window up once the officer walked off and tapped his fingers against the wheel, the next five minutes the longest minutes of his life.
Come ooooonnnnnnnnnn!
Then, much to Mitch's happiness, the cars began to move and Mitch couldn't help but exclaim in joy.
"Finally! Now, time to make a left."
Mitch turned his left blinker on, getting out of the mess of traffic, thankful that he wasn't in there any more. He shook his head, turning the radio up a bit so he could calm down a bit.
"If that happens again, making bringing Scott. I'm going to make him suffer with me. Now all we have to do is wa-"
As he said that, he heard a car honking and felt the back of his car being hit. Mitch screamed as he went forwards, closing his eyes as his car went in the middle of the road. His head hit the dashboard roughly, pain in his neck as more cars honked. He felt his conscience slip away as his car stopped moving, groaning painfully.
And he finally closed his eyes, passing out.
~~~

When Mitch woke up, the officer from before was knocking on the window. Mitch was quite confused and had no idea what was going on when he realized something.

He was in a car crash.

He gasped and stuffed his phone in his pocket, breathing heavily as he covered his mouth, crying loudly as he opened his door. The officer was there to assist Mitch to the ambulance  immediately, trying his best to calm the inconsolable boy down.

"Young man, it's okay. Calm down. You're okay."

"I-I cra-crashed my fa-fa-family's car. I'm go-going to be gro-grounded," Mitch wept, taking his phone out of his pocket. After turning it on, the first text he got was from Scott.

Scott: Hey, where are you? It's been two hours.

Scott: There's an accident and it's the road to the store. Are you okay?

Scott: Mitch? Are you okay?

Scott: PLEASE ANSWER

Scott: Oh gosh...

Scott: Mitch, please be okay.

Scott: Kirstie and I will be there in no time. Dad and Pops are at home. Pops is crying so hard, Mitch. We'll be there.

Mitch sniffed loudly, sobbing as the next text came. He sat down on the gurney, shaking his head as he wiped his eyes roughly.

Scott: We're here. We are going to the ambulance right now.

"Son, try not to look at your phone. You may have a concussion."

"I'm in so mu-mu-much tro-trouble," Mitch sobbed out, making the E.M.T frown.

"Why would you be in trouble, hon? You didn't cause the crash."

Mitch was about to answer when two familiar blondes came up, the shorter one bawling her eyes out as she hugged Mitch carefully yet tightly as possible.

"Mitch, oh my goodness, you're okay! Oh, baby. Never do that again," Kirstie begged, her heart breaking as she felt Mitch hugged back while sobbing and murmuring how he was in trouble. "You're not in trouble, Mitch. Not at all. Dad and Pops are more worried about you than that piece of trash. All that matters is that you're okay."

"But I was distracted," Mitch got out, crying even more as he let go of Kirstie. His older siblings watched their brother break down with tear filled eyes and broken hearts, wanting to tell Mitch that everything was okay. "I ruined the car because I was listening to music!"

"But you're fine and that's all that matters," Scott interrupted, hugging Mitch tightly as the younger boy was unable to talk. "You were not the one distracted. That driver that hit you was. They were texting. You are not in trouble, Mitch. You're okay. Everything's okay."

Mitch was taken to the hospital right away and met with his dads immediately, the three of them crying over the fact that Mitch could have died tonight.

Even though the car was totaled, all that mattered was that Mitch was okay. After that, the family never got into a car accident again.

Car accidents could tear families apart, yet there could be one positive after a car accident.

They become closer than before.

A/N: Yes, car accidents are very hard. My sister, stepsister, and niece were in one the night of my sober grad night and my best friend was in one almost a month ago. I could have lost them. Drive safely and don't be distracted while driving. Turn off your phone and keep your eyes on the road at all times. Tell your loved ones to stay safe on the road, especially if they are/will be driving in a few years. Anyways, I hope that you all enjoyed this chapter and remember that I love you all.:)
