Fading in and out Hellen looked around the area. She was in a white room of a house somewhere, but where she didn't know. Voices came and went. She heard people speaking and everytime she tried to move it hurt. She pulled in and out of her dreams.
Negan was there and they were happy. They were together in Alexandria at Negan's vacation home that he had wanted to have. He smiled at her and she at him. Then her world faded around her before she came back into reality.
There was a pounding at the back of her skull. Lights hurt her eyes and she wanted to throw up. It wasn't a good sign as she knew it was probably a concusion that was making her feel this way. She must have hit her head hard when she had fallen.
"Negan?"
She breathed, her eyes closed and heard someone shift beside her.
"He escaped."
Opening her eyes she seen it was Rick. He didn't look very pleased, but he wasn't angry either.
"Good."
"Good? For him maybe, but not you."
He pushed back. It was then she realised that Rick wasn't happy with her.
"Our little ambush didn't work thanks to you."
He said rubbing his face with his hands. He was neglecting to tell her that the trash people had turned on him last minute to stand with Negan. He hasn't wanted it to happen like that but it did. Luckily though help had managed to come from the Kingdom.
"Negan and his right hand ran -- "
She didn't recall seeing Simon there.
"Along with the rest of their men. He left you behind."
"Not like he could reach me. I was behind the walls -- "
"He breached the walls, but came after me instead of trying to grab you."
Hellen was quiet. The pounding in the back of her head was killing her slowly. She didn't want to talk about what Negan did or didn't do with her or anyone else, she just wanted to be alone right now, but Rick wasn't going to allow her that little bit of peace.
"He doesn't care about you. He left you behind when he could have taken you back with him. Hellen, I know you don't want me to kill him, but he's not a good guy -- "
"He is! He's just changed like everyone else!"
She yelled instantly regretting her choice in volume and tone. Her hand flew up to the back of her head as she winced. Her eyes closing tightly as she laid there in the bed. Rick sighed deeply rubbing his mouth with his hand he shook his head.
"I'll check up on you later. Don't think about running off, there's no where to go."
He warned. Hellen knew she was in no condition to run or even knew the first way of getting out of here. She felt far to sick to even move let alone escape.
Days morphed together as her head slowly healed. People had been coming and going from her room, but she didn't notice them or hardly pay mind. A doctor was one of them as he was constantly checking up on her. The other was Rick and sometimes various people who had been put on watch over her.
Whoever it was Hellen wasn't all that worried about it.
"You're awake?"
A man questioned when he entered her room and her eyes were staring out the window across from her. She had been watching a bird in the trees when he entered. Turning and looking at him she blinked slowly.
"I'm Aaron. I've been on guard duty a bit with you, but I guess you don't really remember much of that?"
"No. No I don't."
She told him. She barely remembered being fed and going to the bathroom let alone knowing who was in her room with her.
"Well, you certainly seem better. Doc said you had a nasty swollen spot on the back of your head a concusion."
"I know. I was a fire fighter. Dealt with medical stuff sometimes too."
"Fire fighter? Impressive."
Aaron said taking a seat beside her. She looked at him questionably and he just watched her in return. She was trying to read him, but the more she tries to think the more her head begun to hurt so she gave up on it.
"Guess I'm your prisoner then?"
"Not mine, Rick's."
She snorted of course she was Rick the Pricks prisoner. Her lips curled up a bit thinking of Negan's nickname for the man, and then she frowned thinking of Negan.
"You can just let me go. I don't understand why I'm being held captive. I've never shown hostility toward your people."
"Rick's orders. I'm sorry."
Hellen huffed. This guy seemed nice enough and she had to figure out something. Had to figure out someway to get the hell out of here. Maybe if she spoke to Rick, she could convince him to letting her go?
"Where's Rick? Can I speak to him?"
"He's busy right now, but I'll let him know you wanted to talk when I see him."
Well, that certainly didn't go as planned. Sighing she rested her head back against the pillow. Aaron watched her closely up until the point where she had fallen back asleep.
She wasn't sure for how long she was there, but Hellen had finally had the chance to speak to Rick the moment she was deemed able to leave her bed. When she was brought to him, he was in his home with Judith and Michonne. The samurai woman seemed like she had been in some bad shape not long ago herself, but Hellen didn't question the woman on that and instead kept her focuse on Rick.
"I don't care what happens to me."
She said telling Rick how she seen things. He was sat on his couch and listening to her. Handing off Judith to Michonne, he had the woman take his daughter upstairs to be put down for a nap. It was then just the two of them.
"But I beg you, please don't kill him."
"It's obvious you care about the man. But why that would be I can't say or ever understand after everything he's done to me and my people -- to other communities. But Negan needs to be taught a lesson."
"Then teach him a lesson! But death isn't a lesson to be taught! If you really think him a monster for killing others then what would that end up making you if you kill him? Two wrongs don't make a right and I think someone like you knows that."
She pushed so quickly it took Rick a minute to register her words. He shifted a little on the couch and rubbed his beard.
"He's too dangerous to be kept alive. If he gets out -- "
"Make me his guard then. Have me make sure he doesn't escape."
Rick snorted and shook his head.
"That would be a stupid move for me to make. It's obvious -- "
"If I care for him enough to not want him dead, then I would make sure he'd be kept locked up, but still alive. And if he were to escape then lock me up, beat me, hell kill me, I don't care what happens. Just please..."
Her voice was strained and tightened. Tears cascaded down her cheeks as she uses the palms of her hands to hide the embarrassment of her emotions.
"I sometimes think that I'm the only person he has in this world that really gives a damn about him. And I can't even fathom the fact that he could die. I can't. Please Rick. Please don't kill him. Please."
She sobbed. Rick didn't know what to do. It wasn't often he was sitting before a crying girl.
"Listen, Hellen..."
Rick said watching as she sniffled and cleaned her face up best she could.
"When the time comes... I'll do what I can... But I can't promise that he won't be killed -- "
"Please you have to!"
"Hellen -- "
"Rick please I'll do anything!"
Down on her knees she was before Rick. Slightly startled he felt her hands on his knees as she begged. He leaned back a little looking into her bright blue eyes seeing that they weren't just blue, but also had hints of gold in them. Something he had never seen before.
"Alright."
He breathed.
"I won't."
She sobbed and laughed at the same time before she reached up and around his neck to hug him. Taken back again Rick paused for a moment before he wrapped his arms around her back.
Neither of them noticing Michonne spying on them from the stairs.
