THE FALLEN HERO

Chapter 5: A Love That Transcends

___________________________________________

Morning sunlight spilled through the windows of the cozy dining room, casting a golden glow over the rustic wooden table. Little Argus, now three years old, sat at the table, his legs dangling off the chair. Though he could manage to eat on his own, the occasional splash of porridge on the tablecloth was proof that he was still learning.

Elysia stood at the counter, chopping vegetables with the ease of someone who had mastered the rhythm of home. She hummed softly, the same gentle tune from the night before, filling the room with warmth and familiarity.

Kaelen strode in with his usual energy, his wide grin brightening the space even further. His steps were light, his presence magnetic. Without hesitation, he moved toward Elysia, his arms sliding around her waist from behind. He leaned in, resting his chin on her shoulder, his lips brushing close to her ear.

"You're in a romantic mood today," Elysia remarked, her cheeks flushing a delicate pink as she continued her work, though her hands faltered slightly under his touch.

"I'm always like this," Kaelen replied smoothly, his voice playful yet sincere. "It's just that you've been so busy lately, you haven't noticed me."

Elysia smirked, raising an eyebrow. "Oh? So this is about jealousy now, is it?"

He tightened his embrace slightly, his tone growing deeper. "Of course! Why wouldn't I be jealous? My beautiful wife spends all her time doting on our son, and I'm left to fend for myself."

Her laugh was soft and musical as she set the knife down and leaned back into him. "Hmm, are you trying to flatter me again?"

"Flatter you?" Kaelen murmured, his lips brushing against her temple. "Why would I do such a thing? I'm only speaking the truth. You're the only person in this world I love so much that I'd sacrifice anything for you."

Elysia turned to him then, her eyes meeting his, her breath catching at the raw emotion in his gaze. He lowered his face toward hers, the world seeming to quiet around them.

"Darling," she said, placing a hand on his chest in feigned protest. "The baby is watching us."

Kaelen's grin widened as he glanced at me, I am seating at the table, my spoon paused mid-air as i watched the scene unfold. "Don't worry, sweetheart," Kaelen said confidently. "He's only three. Babies can't remember anything at this age."

I busied myself with my food, pretending not to notice their little display of affection. Deep down, though, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of warmth. Their love is pure... and maybe, just maybe, I hope to find something like that in this life.

And with that, he leaned in and kissed her, a kiss so tender and full of love that it left Elysia blushing.

From my seat, i groaned inwardly. Do they seriously think I'm just a clueless toddler? I'm twenty-six in my past life, for crying out loud! This is so awkward.

My... sweet, romantic, and innocent parents. I almost feel bad for them, thinking I'm just a clueless baby. But how could they know I'm actually a 26-year-old man trapped in this tiny body?

After the kiss, Elysia's face turned a deep shade of crimson. She lightly swatted Kaelen's arm. "Darling, this is neither the time nor the place," she whispered, her voice tinged with shy exasperation.

She turned toward me, scooping me up into her arms. "Come on, sweetheart," she said softly, her cheeks still pink. In her flustered haste, she began walking away, her mind elsewhere.

Kaelen chuckled softly as he watched Elysia and Argus leave the room. His gaze lingered on them, his heart full.
his heart wrapped around the image of his little family. He felt the weight of his love for them settle deep within him, a sense of pride and purpose washing over him like a warm wave.

That's when Kaelen realized something important:

Kaelen: Oh, breakfast-where is my breakfast? She just ran off without even feeding me!

She forgot to give me my breakfast!

Kaelen sighed in resignation. "Now I'll have to start the day on an empty stomach. Just great".

The evening air grew cooler,

As the day's last light faded the stars emerged, like diamonds scattered across the night sky.

The soft glow of the firelight bathed the room in warmth as Elysia sat by the window, humming a gentle tune. Beyond the glass, the night stretched out like a velvet canvas, the stars scattered like diamonds, their light catching in the soft waves of her golden hair. She cradled Argus in her arms, her every movement as gentle as the lullaby she hummed.

Kaelen lingered in the doorway, his boots silent against the polished wooden floor. He didn't want to disturb her; the sight before him was too perfect. Her beauty seemed almost otherworldly, her serene expression glowing in the flickering light. His chest tightened with an emotion so profound it left him breathless.

"You're staring again," Elysia said softly, her tone teasing, though she didn't turn to face him. A small, knowing smile graced her lips.

Kaelen chuckled, stepping forward. "Can you blame me?" he replied. "I'm looking at the most beautiful sight in the world."

Finally, she turned her head, her sapphire eyes meeting his. "Flatterer," she said, her voice carrying a hint of playful exasperation.

He knelt beside her, gently taking her free hand in his. Bringing it to his lips, he pressed a lingering kiss to her palm. "I mean every word, Elysia," he murmured, his voice low with emotion. "You've given me everything I never thought I could have-this family, this peace. You are my world."

Her smile softened, and she reached out, her fingers brushing against his cheek. "And you, Kaelen," she said tenderly, "are the reason I know what it means to be truly happy."

In that moment, time seemed to stand still. The world beyond their small home faded into insignificance, leaving only the two of them bound together by a love as vast and infinite as the starlit sky.
