Chapter Two

The water soothed my body, as soon as I stepped into the shower. I felt my muscles relax. Picking up my candyfloss scented shampoo, I squirted into my hand and laughed at the sound it made. Immature, I know.

I rubbed it into my black and red hair and then rinsed it out. Once, I had finished washing my body, I stepped out the shower onto the bathroom rug and wrapped a fluffy, warm towel around me.

When I had finished drying myself, I pulled on my P.E kit: black leggings and a blue top with a Chimera stitched into the corner to (my headteacher is obsessed with mythology - though he struggles to remember where the myths come from).

I pulled my Ombre hair into a long high pony tail and walked downstairs. Joe and Steve were already downstairs. Steve was reading a newspaper, while his husband was cooking pancakes in a Kiss the Chef apron. "Morning, Sas," Steve greeted me, looking up from his newspaper.

"How's the new P.E kit?" Joe asked, "give us a twirl!" I twirled and he nodded.

"Definitely fits better than the last one. That is the right house isn't? The manticore?"

"Its a chimera," Steve corrected him. I giggled as Joe tapped him on the head with a spatula.

"Whatever! Same difference." Steve looked at me and rolled his eyes. I snorted.

Grabbing my plate, I let my guardian load it up with pancakes and sat beside my other guardian, while I ate them. The doorbell rang.

Joe had insisted on having that K-pop song, Ring Ding Dong as the tune. "We don't want some boring ring do we?"  he said, after Steve had said no to the song, "Plus Shinee are kings!" Knowing that he would never win an argument with Joe and K-pop, he gave up.

I danced to the door and opened it. My childhood friend, Ryan was waiting on the doorstep. He was tall and his skin had a light tan. His hair was dark brown, which contrasted with his striking blue eyes.

Ryan followed me into the kitchen and sat down as Joe piled his plate high with pancakes. He had already eaten his breakfast but wasn't about to protest to Joe's chocolate chip pancakes with syrup.

Steve had gone up stairs to get changed and Joe had taken his breakfast into the living room so that he could catch up on Hollyoaks. Ryan and I were left alone in the kitchen.

"I can't believe Mr Hudson is making us do an 'authentic Olympics'!" I exclaimed, "Its bad enough that we have to do sports day every year."

Ryan rolled his eyes at me. "Its not that bad. It includes archery and sword fighting." That was true. I was decent at sword fighting. They weren't actual swords, obviously.

We had to use thick wooden sticks. We used to be able to bring our own weapons as long as they weren't sharp and were wooden. That quickly stopped after I brought in a broom and accidently wacked someone around the head with it. I was disqualified.

Ryan was really good at the sword fighting but he was the best at archery. Every arrow he shot sunk deep into the centre of the target. He was a natural.

Steve came back downstairs with his car keys. Joe rode shot gun and Ryan and I sat in the back, discussing tactics for chariot racing.

We had built our chariot during D.T, like all students and had chosen our horses, which were borrowed from the stables down the road from the school.

Before Steve had chance to park, Ryan pulled me out of the slowing vehicle. I blew kisses back at the couple as I was dragged towards the school gates. We ran to the shed. The horses would be arriving later, which meant we had a long time to fix the chariot.

Our chariot had three flexible wheels and mythological creatures carved into the sides of the platform. The platform was big enough for two and the whole vehicle was white.

Ryan had said no to painting a rainbow on it or covering it in spikes, even though I pointed out that it could intimidate the others if we had spikes all over it. I didn't have a favourite colour. As I often said, "my favourite colour is rainbow." Ryan said he preferred to not be on a chariot that looked like it had been puked on by unicorns.

We had a Nerf Thunder bow and Mega bullets ready. Mr Hudson had allowed the participants to bring a stick or archery set as long as it couldn't cause harm (metal poles weren't allowed).

While my partner added to the chariot itself, I finished the paintwork. Once we were done, we high-fived and headed to the field to begin the Ancient Greece inspired games.

The first game was javelin. I came third somehow and Ryan came first, much to everyone's annoyance. He shrugged and gave a perfect grin, which showed off his dazzling white teeth. It was the kind of grin that made people forgive him easily.

Next was the running races (I sat out). Mr Hudson sent me to the office with a note explaining that I was feeling ill. The receptionist promptly sent me back but by that time the race was nearly half finished. I didn't mind though.

Finally, it was the stick fighting. After mercilessly defeating the other competitors, there was only four contestants left: me, Ryan, Maci and Dionysus.

I entered the makeshift arena with Dionysus. I'd never spoken to him before, as he was surrounded by a swarm of girls and only joined a few months ago. Also, who calls their child after the god of wine?

His wavy, pale brown hair reached his shoulders, curling in some places and his intense blue eyes were the colour of a new-born baby's. He smirked as he tied his hair behind him. "Good luck Saskia," he said, not taking his eyes off mine, "you're going to need it."

I rolled my eyes and got into position. As soon as the whistle blew, Dionysus charged at me and I dodged his first swipe. I blocked his stick of wood, the impact caused a loud thump each time. Digging in my heels, I pushed him back. He grinned, his eyes taunting me.

I charged again, only to be thrown off balance and dragging Dionysus down with me. He pushed himself us, using his hands on either side of me. I was trapped. "Do you give up?" he purred, his intoxicating grape scent wafting over me. His dimples, which should be illegal, dented his cheeks.

Instead of responding, I kneed him in the groin and pushed him off me. I sat on his hips, my wooden sword pointing at his throat. "This is interesting," he smirked. I growled. Knowing that I had finally defeated him, he sighed. "Fine, I give up." I took the 'sword' away and got up.

"Sike," Dionysus teased, kicking his leg out and causing me to fall to the ground again. My head began to throb, as the school gave a countdown. Everyone cheered, when they got to ten. I had lost.

My vision blurred and when it cleared, Dionysus was standing over me, holding his hand out. Reluctantly, I allowed him to help me up. "Congrats," I muttered and then ran off the field.

So what do you think of Dionysus?

Poor Saskia! She lost her favourite game!

She still has the chariot race though.

If you have no idea what Ring Ding Dong is, this it:
