Chapter Four
Ryan and I were sitting in the office, being first-aid checked, despite the fact that we had insisted multiple times that we were fine.
The office door opened and Steve walked in, his keys jangling in his suit pocket. He glanced at me and continued to the office desk.
"I came as soon as possible," he told the receptionist, who's cheeks were glowing a little too red, "Is everything ok?"
She told him about my fainting episode and the chariot accident. Steve nodded. He walked to me and placed the back of his hand on my forehead and flashed his phone touch in my eyes.
"She seems alright to me," he sighed, "We should probably get back before my husband starts to worry." The receptionist pulled a face and Steve motioned for me and Ryan to follow him.
I opened the car door and slid across the seats. Ryan followed after me. We shared our earphones and a minute later, I felt a weight on my shoulder.
I looked to the side of me and saw Ryan sleeping peacefully on my shoulder, his soft brown hair tickling my neck. He was so adorable sometimes!
Steve drove into his parking space and I gently nudged Ryan. His sky blue eyes flew open. I ruffled his hair before hurriedly getting out the car. He hates it when anyone touches his hair.
Sure enough, as soon as he got out, he completely messed up my hair. I glared at him and he smiled "innocently".
When we walked in Joe was busy painting his toenails. He was wearing a dressing gown and had a towel wrapped around his head.
"How's my girl and her boy friend?" Joe asked. I gave him a playful shove. Ryan's cheeks went slightly pink.
"You know the usual," I replied, "Getting yeeted off a horse driven chariot."
"Yote," Steve automatically corrected.
Joe raised his eyebrow and looked at Ryan for conformation. He nodded.
"We're fine now," I quickly added, "hey, I've got a history assignment due tomorrow. Is it ok if Ryan stays the night to help me. Don't worry, I'll put up the camp bed for him."
Steve and Joe shared a look but fortunately agreed. So while Ryan was calling his parents to tell them he will be staying at a friends, I struggled with the camp bed.
Eventually, I managed to put the camp bed up and get blankets and a pillow for blankets. Ryan look slight nervous as the small bed swayed under his weight.
The bed creaked loudly as he shuffled around, trying to get comfortable. "Nope," he said, as he jumped up like someone had lit a match under him.
I laughed and made room in my bed. Ryan quickly put his shirt back on (he, like most guys, usually slept shirtless) before climbing into my bed.
"Your foster parents are going to kill us," he smirked.
"Nah, Joe probably won't let us ever forget this moment though," I giggled at the thought of my foster dad, teasing us mercilessly. Ryan smiled.
We started to discuss the days events. Ryan seemed really suspicious of the wine god.
"Appears out of no where and suddenly falls in love with you," he said, I thought I sensed a tinge of jealousy in his voice.
"He doesn't love me. Look at me. I'm a freak! One of my eyes is half brown and blue. The other is green! That's not normal!" I cried.
"So what? Your eyes are amazing. I wish mine were like yours," he replied, comfortingly. His blue eyes had a hint of seriousness mixed in. "Anyway, my point is: how do you know you can trust him?"
"He's one of the twelve Olympians," I answered.
"So? Not all the Olympians are nice. Trust me."
"How do you know?"
"I've met some of them."
The tone of his voice told me to drop it so I did. With a sigh, he turned over. "Just go to sleep."
Eventually, Ryan went still and I could hear his gentle snoring. He was asleep. I sighed, shuffling around under the covers, accidently kicking my best friend a few times. It was late and I still hadn't managed to fall asleep.
Suddenly, I heard a sound beside me, not on the side that Ryan was. I flicked on my bedside light and saw someone. Without stopping to check who it was, I bashed them on the head with weapon I had to hand.
A hand gripped the lamp and I saw who the intruder was. He had long, light brown hair and dark blue eyes. Dionysus.
"You didn't need to attack me," he smirked, his eyes twinkling in the lamplight, "I only came to make sure that you're okay after today."
Hesitantly, I lowered my weapon. "Sorry about that," I replied, "I'm fine."
Our eyes locked and I quickly looked away. Ryan had given me a new feeling of apprehension. Could I really trust Dionysus?
I looked back into his ocean eyes and felt all the feeling of mistrust fade. Something told me I could trust him.
"Are you sure you're alright?" He asked, looking concerned.
"I'm fine. Really," I replied.
"Mind if we snuggle?" he smirked.
Before I could answer, I heard a cough the other side of me.
"I'm still here you know," Ryan grumbled. He sat up and glared at the god.
He only smiled back. "Someone's jelly," he taunted. Ryan flushed and turned over again. I giggled.
"I'll go now. See you in the morning Saskia." He smiled and kissed me softly on the forehead, before leaving us.
My heart hammered in my chest, my stomach doing somersaults, like a clumsy acrobat.
Ryan was silent but I could tell he was still awake.
Once again I struggled to fall asleep until I felt a warm embrace around me.
