• Chapter 2 •

Ash felt a shiver down his spine, glancing once more at the scroll in his talons. Galtoryn. He couldn't quite remember how the scroll had gotten into his possession, but flashes of a far away land surrounded by water rippled in his head. It was familiar, somehow.

He grumbled, looking irritated. So, a mysterious scroll wants me to go to some ancient, empty island. "Wonderful." He snarled, his tone full of sarcasm. Ah yes, let's go to the super haunted place with scary stuff, great plan scroll! He glared at the paper rolled out, as if it could read his thoughts if he stared hard enough. Ah yes, thank you boring scroll. The paper crinkled slightly, as if it was talking back. "You're welcome, you stupid lizard. Now let's go walk straight to our inevitable death on the really awesome island everyone is scared of!" Ash held back a frustrated hiss, rolling his eyes and taking a deep breath. "Fine, but only because I have nothing else to do! So don't think I'm doing this for you, stupid thing!" He pointed at the paper accusingly, poking it.

The paper folded itself slightly, as if mocking him. "Stupid bitch." He snarled, cursing under his breath. Suddenly, the little robin from before landed on his shoulder. "AH- oh hello again." He shouted, surprised for a moment, before his expression turned to one of familiarity. The small avian chirped, hopping down to inspect the scroll in his talons. "Yeah, it's a pain in my tail." He commented to his feathered companion. The robin chirped once more, its feet hopping across the annoying roll of paper, before gently pecking a strange symbol inked on the object. The scroll suddenly glowed, sending bright blue beams of light bouncing off Ash as it began to speak. "To get to Galtoryn island, head to Stanmore Peak." Ash looked shocked and puzzled, watching as the scroll SPOKE. "WHAT THE-" He tumbled backwards, landing on his side with his wings spread out. The robin sang a little tune, gazing down at the glowing paper. "Peck it, bird!" Ash called out, glaring at the words glowing an eerie blue hue.

The bird simply cocked its head at him, before pecking the symbol again. The robin then seemed to fade away, before suddenly appearing on his shoulder. Ash jumped, staring at the robin, now glowing blue, just like the scroll was moments ago. "Listen, young traveler." The bird spoke. "You must journey to Galtoryn island. There, you will find the key to defeat the coming darkness."
Ash let out a startled yelp, surprised. "The coming darkness...?" He echoed, as he felt the bird's cold, uneasy gaze resting on him alone. "W-what darkness?"

The robin stared at him for a moment, before answering. "Eternity."
