Chapter 1: A Strange Place
Hi everyone, SK here; welcome to The Fairy's Poison, sequel to The Fairy's Cure.
I do hope that you're excited to read this book! I know that I'm excited to write it. There are a few things I'll say before we start though.
1. This book, unlike its predecessor, is MATURE. Please keep this in mind as you read (I will be sure to mark the extra mature parts for you still).
2. If you have headphones, I highly recommend listening to the music with each part!
3. Things set up in the first book are gonna get shattered here, including its happy ending.
4. Keep an open mind, and be ready to catch all the feels I'm going to throw at you. ;)
What kind of intro is that? Yeah, I know. XD
With that in place, let's begin! I hope you enjoy chapter one.
Valerie
"We need to run. There's somewhere safe I can take you, but right now you need to run."
"He's chasing me... he's going to kill me!"
"You will never hurt her again."
"Thank you, thank you so much for saving me."
I wake up with a jolt, sweat dripping down my brow. Vague recollections of last night fill my mind, pieces of dialogue from what must have been the most insane night of my life. I fill my lungs with air over and over, until the scenes fade away and I am left with an uneasy peace. I stare blankly upwards, gazing at the soft-coloured birch of the room's ceiling as I sit up with a frown on my face. My room doesn't have a birch ceiling!
In a flash I remember where I am. I'm not in my room, or even my world. Last night I was taken away by a fairy into his world, somewhere where I could be safe, protected. I went with him, of course I would. For almost a full year now he's been visiting me every single day, and we're like the best of friends. I trust him. August has done so much for me, and I love him for it.
Oh... did I just say that?
Well, I'm not one to take things back.
Last night was the first time I'd ever seen his face. He'd always hidden it from me; if I were to make a guess it's because he wasn't supposed to be talking to me, a human girl. I remember how he looked at me with those dashing blue eyes of his, his dark honey-coloured hair waving in the wind...
I just realized that I've slept the whole night in a hot guy's bed.
With a squeak I try to throw the covers off and leave the bed out of sheer embarrassment, but somehow I end up pushing myself off the bed instead. I roll onto the floor with a small crash, and I wince in pain. What a great way to start of the morning, Valerie.
I push myself off the wooden floor, rubbing my forehead as I do so. I brush some dust off my dress, which to be honest I'm surprised I slept so comfortably in it. It's a short white dress that comes up a little past my knees. There's a small line of blue around the edge of the skirt, neckline, and sleeves as well; a winding of purple ribbon is fitted around my waist to complete the dress. Glancing over, I see my purple flats sitting neatly beside the foot of the bed. I slip them on, my bare feet fitting into them snugly.
I take this time to walk around the room, wanting to explore a bit. His room is a lot different than mine. His room looks so mature, with a pale blue colour for the walls and a light birch wood for the ceiling and flooring. Mine, on the other hand, is a bright purple with Pokemon posters all over the walls-
Pokemon. Am I forgetting-
Oh my Arceus, Nombles!
Nombles is my Snom- no, Nombles is my Frosmoth. She evolved last night during my escape, so the fact that she's not a cute adorable Snom anymore still boggles my mind a bit. I search around for her Pokeball, and I see the Netball sitting on a nearby nightstand. I ponder whether I should let her out but decide against it for now. I want to get to know this place first.
I notice that there's a mirror nearby so I go to take a look at myself. As expected my hair is a complete mess. My long brown curls are all tangled up; I wince when I think about how long it will take to brush them out. I blink at my reflection, its violet eyes with golden flecks staring back at my own. I don't know how I have natural purple eyes; although it's possible, it certainly isn't common. Well, I technically know, because at least one of my birth parents would have had to have purple eyes, right? As for the gold, I'm not sure where that came from.
I let out a sigh. I keep telling myself to stop thinking of my birth parents. My adoptive parents are crap, so why wouldn't they be? All parents are just loads of crap. Or at least that's what mine have taught me.
In the mirror's reflection I see a closed window behind me. Wanting to see what's outside I go to open it, pushing the curtains apart. The sun blinds me temporarily, but when I can see again I am absolutely amazed.
Below me, above me, everywhere, there are fairies! Real, living, breathing fairies!
I giggle as my smile grows wider; I can't help it. Thinking about telling my Myth Club members gets me all giddy with excitement; they'd be so excited to know that fairies are real! Then, with a jolt, another thought crosses my mind; what if I cannot return? From the way August looked last night I could tell that there were going to be some consequences to me staying here, if I can in the first place. Just because he said so doesn't mean that it'll happen.
I need to go back, I think to myself. I'm only a few weeks from graduation... and I need my club, I need my friends. About two years ago I created a club at my school, the Myth Club. We used to discuss all about rare Pokemon, but since the recent news reports of fairies reportedly being spotted in various regions, we've just nicknamed it the Fairy Club because that's all we talk about now.
I've made all my friends through that club. My best friends there are Calem and Leaf; Leaf's boyfriend is even Red, the champion of the Kanto region. I think that makes her pretty cool; at least the popular crowd at school sure seem to think so. Calem is a pretty sweet guy too, and even I'll admit that he's pretty good looking. The entire school thinks it, so why can't I? Even if I'm not in anyone's social circles at school, I at least know who the good-looking guys are.
Gazing down at the fairies below causes that feeling of being an outsider begins to creep up on me again. Look at all those magical creatures with wings and magic-y-things that you can't even compare to. If you stay here, how are you supposed to belong? It's not like you can become a fairy.
"What'cha doing?" A new voice calls to me, and I yelp. I hear laughter and scowl at the person in the doorway- August. Why would he sneak up on me like that? I think crossly.
"Just looking out the window," I reply innocently, my frown fading. He makes his way towards me and stands at my right. He's a full head taller than me which makes him look slightly intimidating even though I know he would never hurt a fly. His curly hair, which fades to brown at the ends, sways back and forth as he looks towards me. He's wearing a navy blue button-down shirt and pants that are a slightly darker shade, and a dark yellow belt to match his bright golden scarf. Over his shirt he wears a bit of an odd light blue jacket; I say odd because one side is longer than the other.
"Your hair is really messy," he says playfully, which of course makes me blush self-consciously. His hand suddenly becomes alight with a silver-coloured aura and he places it behind me. "Allow me," he says, and makes a downwards motion with his hand. I run my fingers through my hair shortly after, and to my astonishment it is tangle-free. I blink back at him in astonishment; I am certainly not used to magic yet, and I don't think I ever will be.
"Thanks," I tell him sheepishly, a small smile on my face. "What time is it, by the way?"
"It's about ten in the morning," he responds. I begin to freak out because I am used to waking up early, but he calms me down. "You were up way past midnight last night," he reminds me. "It's fine that you slept in. It gave me some time to talk to my parents."
I become puzzled. "Your parents?"
"Ash Ketchum and Serena Yvonne. The Leaders."
I don't know what Leaders are, but just the name alone resonates with authority. "Wait, so if they're the Leaders, what does that make you? Some kind of prince?" I can already feel a red hue coming on and I quickly push it back. He is not a prince, stop going crazy already.
He shrugs. "I guess so? I'm just the Leaders' son," he answers, which doesn't help me at all. All I'm thinking now is that there is a very handsome man standing beside me who is basically a prince. Oh Arceus. Just chill already!
I realize that we've changed the topic. "What did they say?" I ask him nervously.
His laugh sounds forced. "Well, they certainly weren't happy that I've been breaking the rules for a straight year to see you," he begins sounding a little awkward, "but they're glad that I helped you-"
"You didn't tell them too much information, did you?" I interrupt. I don't want everyone talking about me; well, more specifically my adoptive father.
He shakes his head, which fills me with relief. "No, I only told them enough to make them understand the situation. They both want to meet you, and the Ministers will have to meet you too. My sister also wants to meet you- I guess you're pretty popular," he says jokingly. "I hope that's okay. They're going to hold a Council later today regarding whether you'll be allowed to leave."
I nod, then become uneasy. "You mean I might not be able to leave?"
"Usually it's custom," he says, fiddling with his golden scarf. "Usually humans that come here are not allowed to leave. But," he adds, "I know you're so close to graduating and finally leaving Pallet Town to get your life back on track. I want that for you. I told them a condensed version of that, and they figured it would be best to decide it fairly with a Council. My sister and I will both be a part of it, and we'll vouch for you."
I'm just confused. How does he know his sister will also help me? I just stare mindlessly out the window, feeling more lost than found. I need to be able to get back to school. I need to graduate, escape Pallet Town and my father, move forward to my new life. I can't do that if I can't graduate. Besides, my birthday is coming up soon anyways, though it's not like it matters.
"Hey," he says, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "No one's against you here. We want the best for everyone, including you. You're going to be fine, I promise."
"Thanks," I murmur. I'm about to say something else, only to be interrupted by a sudden knock at the door.
"Oh, that'll be my mom," August says, walking over to the door. "Dad might be there too... actually, probably not, he and Verity- that's my sister- both like to sleep in."
"Wait, what do I do?" I ask suddenly, which makes him look at me weirdly. "I mean.. do I bow or something?"
"You don't have to do that," he tells me with a small chuckle. He opens the door, revealing the Leader herself.
Well, I certainly hope you enjoyed that chapter. You can tell that something has happened yesterday night.. but what? That's an answer for later. Tell me your thoughts in the comments below!
One more thing I wanted to mention: some of you might have read the side story to this book written by LittleSharkXD. This story is a continuation of my own story, not his, and the two have no connections to each other (apart from using the same characters). I highly recommend you check it out, it's very good!!
UPDATE ON THE UPDATE SCHEDULE: Sundays are the day to watch out for this book's updates, although this might change when I start up school. Updates are weekly!
Anyways, that's all from me today. Stay tuned for more! :)
