Chapter Twelve

I changed the book cover :) It's up top.

Em shouted, "Okay, I've had enough of you! I'm going to see what Rose is doing!"

She slammed the door behind her and I sighed loudly. How could I be so stupid as to kiss Christian? I mentally female-dog-slapped my drunk self.

I'd been trying to distract myself all day, which included reading Romeo and Juliet again, calling my mum - and talking to her over Voicemail - spying on Olivia getting invited on a date by a cute brown-haired boy from DAB, wandering aimlessly around the Facility and stumbling in on Dr Weston looking at his computer wallpaper - of Dr Demonico - and even listening to Shawn tell me how he got kicked in his manhood by Whitney for 'not letting her down easy'.

Now, with all those tasks completed, I was lying on my bed, glaring at my dorm room door, with Christian Park swarming my thoughts.

I had been wishing death on my drunk self so hard that I didn't even notice when the door actually opened until too late.

"So this is what you're doing?" Whitney scowled, "Get up, you lazy ass. Even I was rejected and I'm still picture perfect."

I shifted my glare from her torso to her face, finally moving for the first time in half an hour, "Can't you see I'm silently killing my dream and drunk selves?"

"That's impossible," she merely stated and walked to pull me out of the bed. I toppled onto the ground with a loud squeak.

When I looked up, I wasn't surrounded by just Whitney. No - now I had at least a quarter of the girls in my year in my room. I scowled, "What?"

Em crossed her arms, "If you do as we say, we'll buy you Macca's for lunch tomorrow."

"Food?" I perked up immediately, "Wait... you're saying we can go outside tomorrow?"

"All day," Whitney grinned.

"Now get up, gluttonous ass," Rose smirked, "We're going to go plan a prank on the DAB student council."

I opened my mouth to ask another question but Em interrupted, "And, yes, you can have dinner afterwards."

I grinned, "Coming!"

***

"Hey S.B.P." I heard Bree say in a deep voice. I winced - she sounded almost like my dream-self.

Christian replied, from out of sight, "Hey. Your name is... Bree, right?"

"Yeah," Bree grinned - just in our line of vision at the top of the stairs, "So, what are you doing now?"

Christian gave a pause - which I'd come to recognise as his confused one - and replied, "I was just going down for dinner... You?"

"Funny, that," she giggled, "I am, too. Wanna join me? All my other friends are comforting Natalie in her dorm room. But... Nat's a big girl. She'll get over it."

"Why's Natalie upset?" he asked.

"Who knows? I'm pretty sure she's got a few mental health issues... But, you know, they wouldn't have really kicked in unless someone had done something horrible to her."

"Horrible how?" Christian's voice was getting huskier by the second, I swear.

"Oh, you know, scaring her, commenting on how much she loves food, pressuring her into deals, telling her that her drunk-self did something stupid - we've all made that mistake at least once," Bree trailed off, "But, anywho, dinner?"

Christian gave another pregnant pause, "Ah... Bree... what kind of mental health issues does she have?"

"I'm pretty sure it was severe depression... and when we were all in Year Eight she had sleep apnea and even anorexia."

I winced. They'd taken a lot of coaxing to allow me to let her say that.

Christian murmured, "We're going to have to do dinner another time... I have someone to apologise to."

Bree played her role though by pressing her chest up against him and pouting, "But Chris... She can wait..."

Christian stepped back from her, finally coming fully into our line of vision and they all scampered off into the bathroom, and then into Bree and Olivia's room in the connected dorm - 33. They closed the doors and Em knelt by my bed. I hopped in and got under the covers.

There was a knock on my door and I shouted, "Fudging go away!"

Em held in a laugh.

Christian called, "Please, let me in."

Another voice, Shawn's, asked, "What are you doing, Chris?"

"I... uh, need to speak to your sister... I kind of, maybe, tipped her depression..."

Shawn shouted, "What?!"

Em had dropped a subtle hint about my 'depression' at lunch earlier to Shawn. Em played it off like it was no big deal, though. And that was what was important - the DAB student council, Christian and Shawn, both thought I struggled with depression. So they're going to both feel responsible and be at my command during dinner. And halfway through dinner, after we've made them slightly angry, we're gonna tell them.

The whole thing was Beth's idea, and that's why it was so funny. Because that girl never cooperates with anyone except sometimes Diana.

Christian raised his hands, "Not my fault! Apparently, she gets depressed when someone mentions what she's done drunk."

"So I'm good?" Shawn breathed in relief.

Christian made a small squeak, "Well... unless you've commented on her eating habits or you've made a deal with her?"

"Oh crap... I asked if she really planned on eating all that at lunch..." Shawn murmured, "Nattie?!"

"I said, go away!" I shouted.

The door was pushed open anyway and I glared at the two of them before crawling under my covers and freezing.

Em growled, "Now you two have really done it... You should have just stayed outside, she was getting better."

I bit my tongue to hold from laughing. That was coming from the girl who 'couldn't act'.

Shawn sat on my bed and I felt him shake my body beneath the comforter, "Nattie? Are you okay?"

Em hissed, "That's the worst question you could ask! Obviously, she's not okay! And it's your fault, dipwads!"

Christian whispered back, "I didn't know I was going to upset her... Hey, Natalie, do you need to talk?"

"We barely talk as it is," I snapped, "Even in my dreams it's low hisses before M stuff so scamper off. Why are you even here, Park?"

Shawn shook me again, "Nattie, we want to help. How can we help?"

I slowly drew back the covers to glare at my twin. Then I shifted my glare to Christian, "Park, you're giving me a piggyback to dinner. I'm hungry and I don't want to walk."

Christian's eyebrows raised, "A p-piggyback?"

"Yes. Or would you prefer to go back to not talking?" I hissed.

Christian's eyes widened, "A piggyback it is, I guess?"

He turned around hesitantly while I went and stood on my bed. I leaped up onto Christian's back, wrapping my legs around his waist. I shot a secret wink to Em. Then I said, "Shawn, get my shoes, would you?"

"Your converse, Nattie?"

"No, the other ones."

"Which other ones?" he wrinkled his eyebrows together.

"The uggies, duh?" Em rolled her eyes, "Nat, I know you better than your own twin!"

I growled, just loud enough for everyone to hear, "Because my twin doesn't understand when I just want food."

"Are you mad at me, or just upset in general?" Christian tilted his head up to look at me and suddenly, I wondered what it would be like to kiss him. There was only an inch between my mouth and his.

I shrugged, "Make it up to me and we'll see who I'm mad at. Now go down to the dining hall."

Em walked alongside Christian as I rested my chin on the top of his head, "So, have you guys rehearsed for Romeo and Juliet, yet? Like, in class? Because I've been in the textiles room this entire time..."

"No," I said, before Christian could respond, "Well... unless you count the supposed kiss which I can't even remember."

"Kiss?" Shawn's eyes went to meet with mine.

"Yep. Apparently, according to Park, here, I kissed him when I was drunk," I added a glum tone to my voice.

"She kissed you?" Em's eyebrows popped up.

"Tell them about it, Christian," I ordered.

Christian stiffened, "I, uh... please, no."

I frowned and tilted his head back forcefully to look at me, "So... you don't care about me, do you? Put me down. I'm never talking to you, again."

Christian sighed, "I can't believe you're making me do this."

"Christian!"

Em hissed, "Just do it, Christian, or she'll get more upset!"

Christian growled as the elevator doors opened and we all stepped out, "Okay... so we were arguing about... about whether or not I liked her, and then I offered her a piggyback so I could take her to the water to try and get her sober, and then she kissed me - quickly might I add - and called me a good boyfriend. Okay, that's it, storytime over."

"You guys are dating?!" Bree looked between us with wide eyes as we - or rather I say, Christian - walked in and gestured between the two of us, "If I had known that you kissed I would definitely not have tried flirting with you, Christian. That's just not me."

By now, everyone was staring at us, confused.

I pointed to a table - the furthest from where we were now - and said, "Christian, can I sit there? It's away from everyone else."

Christian sighed, "Fine, Dove."

Suddenly, I stiffened. Did he really just call me that? Only dream-Christian calls me that...

I looked down at him to see him frozen in shock too.

Em raised an eyebrow, "And you say you aren't dating. Damn boy, I mean, that's a cute pet name."

I slapped him lightly on the back, "If you call me Dove, I get to call you Park."

He rolled his eyes, "Whatever."

He continued walking and he placed me - not so gracefully - in the chair. I held out my feet in front of me and Shawn slipped my uggies on. I grinned, "Thank you Shawny, thank you Park."

They rolled their eyes in synchronisation and turned their back on me before I called, "Where do you think you're going?"

As planned, Diana and Beth were now sitting in their usual seats, talking to Ryan and... what was the other kid's name?

Christian paused and then turned and narrowed his eyes at me, "You planned this?"

I widened my eyes in innocence, "Whatever do you mean, Park?"

Christian glared, "You got Bree to stall me and set us up with the whole depression thing, right? And then you annoyed the shit out of me and got me to explain the fucking kiss?!"

He'd shouted the last few words and everyone was staring. I glanced to Em and we burst into laughter. I held my stomach tightly as I slid back in the chair, "That was gold!"

Christian slowly turned to examine the dining hall and then turned to me, "You're dead, Dove."

I looked at the seriousness in his eyes and knew I had to run. I kicked off my uggs under the table and ran around the outside of the room, and I could feel Christian on my tail. I nearly tripped over a chair as Zoe pushed her chair out but I dodged - Chris wasn't so lucky. That gave me a few more seconds. I ran to the middle aisle and squeaked as I tripped over Bree's foot. I glared up at her as I regained my footing and she sent me a wink. I ran for the doors and just made it out of the dining hall before two arms were wrapped around my waist. I squeaked.

Christian carried me to the wall, near the elevator and place both arms against me, "Not fair, Dove."

"Sorry, Park," I rolled my eyes, "But it was funny."

"No, it wasn't."

"Yes, it was."

I leant in to make my glare more insinuating, but the reddish hues of his eyes caught my attention. I studied them with wide eyes. Were they naturally red like that, or was it a trick of the light? I mean, I'd noticed them before - but not this vibrant. Just surrounding his pupil were flecks of light brown which melted into a dark brown iris. But through it all, I could catch shimmering red flecks. They resembled Em's hair in the sun - her deep brown hair with red streaks.

I was tempted to ask if he wore contacts, or if they were really that colour. His eyes were wide as he stared back at me, still cornering me into the wall. This made his eyes all the more attractive - that they looked so big and innocent, right now. Attractive? Did I just... yes I did... But it was true, his eyes were his main feature.

How long had we been staring at each other? I needed to say something, anything. I felt the familiar blush crawl up my cheeks as he continued to stare at me with those eyes.

I felt my mouth move without my mind telling me to, "Is this the part where you tell me you're a werewolf and say I'm yours?"

His eyebrows raised quickly and he took a step back, "Uh, no?"

He scratched the back of his neck, "If you don't mind, I'm gonna skip dinner..."

Christian pushed past me to the elevators and I winced as the doors closed with a ding.

I shivered involuntarily. What had that been? Had we stood there for seconds or minutes?

I looked up, snapping myself out of it and walked into the dining room. Whitney called, "So, did you kiss?"

I jumped, "What? No, why? Why would I kiss him?"

The other boy that usually sat at Shawn's table called out, "Because you were out there for fifteen minutes."

"Fifteen minutes?" I mouthed and suddenly I'd lost my appetite, "No way..."

Dr Weston pushed past me as he walked in the room, "Attention, everyone, tomorrow, unfortunately, you aren't going to be able to have your day off. We have a few... mandatory phases to complete the testing."

Dr Demonico added, "Please let us know if you have any problems with hard-core video graphics. It will include being in a... dream-like state."

I blushed immediately. Did that mean? Oh, god, these doctors are confusing...

Song: Amnesia - 5SOS

Does anybody else watch Hart of Dixie? I've just watched Wade's heart be broken again, but by Viv. I desperately ship Wade and Zoe... But Tom and Wanda are my OTP tbh.
