o24 October eyes
Since I had already confirmed my plans with Jaehyun, It was needed to properly inform Eunwoo that I won't be able to join him, except I am going to lie about it.
"You can't go? But why?" Eunwoo asked.
"I got another plan on weekends. Family things, you know," I blatantly lied.
"Really? Does that mean you are going back to Australia?" Eunwoo protruded.
"No! We will have an all-day conference call on Saturday while on Sunday, we will see some blighted properties in Seoul," I said without faltering before I even feel guilty.
I am not cheating behind his back, but I sort of feel bad. Jaehyun doesn't like me, and so neither am I to him, so what is this growing guilt?
"Can't I just go with you?" He merely asked in a low tone.
Eunwoo sounds so grievously disappointed. It just addends a critical load of terrible guilt and outraged conscience in my back.
"You unfortunately can't. You know how much our family takes care of our privacy, right?" I bit my lip and gulped. "So I am hoping you'd understand."
I heard Eunwoo breathed deeply on the next line.
"Okay," He said. "Let's just see each other on Monday morning. We'll have breakfast together, okay?"
"Of course!" I exclaimed vehemently. "I'm really sorry, babe. This was supposed to be our 1st vacation together but I fucked it up."
"That's fine. I comprehend, babe," Eunwoo assured. "Just sent me a message from time to time. I still want to get intact with you."
"Alright. Thank you..." I said softly because I know how much Eunwoo is a sucker for that.
"You're welcome. I love you," He told me.
I blinked. We never exchange I love you before. This is actually the first time.
"I... love you too," I answered without any feelings exerted.
"That would be enough," Eunwoo says softly. "Take care of yourself, babe."
"You too. Goodbye," I uttered.
After we had ended the call, a tug of guilt rushed over the familiar path. Eunwoo, unlike what other people say on the news, is a good man. He deserves so much better than me, yet he's settling with me.
Damn it. I hate that I am too empathic towards everybody.
Soon, I received a message from Jaehyun saying that he was already in the parking lot to fetch me.
I made it quick to go there only to see him looking as exquisite as ever. His hair was brushed up again, and he looks like a prince, honestly.
"Good morning," I greeted him as I awkwardly wave my hands to him.
I still recall what happened the last time, and I can't just get it out of my bare mind. I am all bothered still if who the hell he was supposed to send a message.
Yiyang? Hyewon? Who else?
"Morning," Jaehyun answered with a thrifty smile.
That sort of gave me relief. He looks cool with what happened. It was as if he forgot that he asked me to marry him. Maybe, he's just really kidding.
He soon struts his way to the other side of the car and opens the door for me. I then sauntered towards him and entered the car with my parted lips.
After he entered the car, I instantly throw a question at him.
"Is GNEOJ far from BSI?" I asked.
"Yes, so you don't have to worry," Jaehyun asserted.
I nodded with an assured sigh, "What will I do there, anyway?"
Jaehyun turned to me, "Just... stay in my office."
"What else?" I questioned.
"That's all," He told me.
"That's all? You don't need my help for some things?"
"Yeah," Jaehyun mumbled. "I only need your presence."
"Well, okay..." I nod my head, but I was worried, so I had to ask again, "You need my presence for what?"
It took Jaehyun a second before sighing.
"Just because."
"Okay," I pouted. "But I will be bothered the whole time if I won't do anything."
"Just... make a coffee for me."
"That's all?'"
"For sure."
"Okay."
Right after that silent debate within me, Jaehyun started the engine of his car, and we quietly drove all the way to the GNEOJ.
Upon reaching the GNEOJ building, I can't kind of hesitate to dash off his car. I am just a bit terrified and anxious that some people related and connected to Eunwoo might distinguish me.
"Won't you go out?" Jaehyun asked when he noticed that I am not shifting my body.
"I would," I stated then looked at me with my worried eyes, "But I'm scared. What if some people might see me here? They might assume that I am cheating behind Eunwoo."
"No one will find out, stop worrying," He assured me. "Besides, we're not doing anything wrong."
Jaehyun is right. We were not doing wrong at all. However, I still feel like I am cheating even though I am not.
If ever Eunwoo will hear about this, it will create chaos for sure. I just turned down my supposed vacation plan with him. He will, for sure, think that I am committing something that is against the will of the relationship.
"You'll just stay in my office. My people are silent and they are all professionals. What happens in the office will stay on the office," Jaehyun reached out my head to tousle it. "So, you're safe with me."
"Okay then..." I said half-heartedly.
I was about to open the door of the car when Jaehyun paused me from doing so.
"I'll open the door for you," He suggested.
Jaehyun did not wait for me to agree and just went to my side and opened the door for me.
"What's up with you?" I asked, wondering why he's being so gentle to me right now.
"Ask yourself," He answered lightly.
That made me frown, but let it slip off anyway. I guess I am just imagining things again.
Jaehyun is getting weirder each day, but he never failed to stop me on the tracks and take my breath away. It is unfair that I am like that even though all he was talking about was straight bullshit.
When we saunter our way to the building, I tried to prep myself to be confident with the façade that I am giving to everyone.
It was like an automatic thing to do whenever Jaehyun walks his way towards an ocean of people. No matter how busy the person is, if they are feeling Jaehyun's presence, they would turn their heads to him and will drop everything they are doing.
I am used to it with the past few months I have been hanging out with him, which was part of our deal. That's why I always make sure that I look presentable and try not to look like a laughing stock whenever he is beside me, or he is in front of me.
I cannot blame them, though. Jaehyun's presence is just commending – it was as if he was gifted with having a disdain in his blood; hence, anyone will bow their knees to praise him. It doesn't help too that he is tall.
It is like he always finds his way to not blend out in the crowd and, instead, be special and have the limelight.
I didn't even realize that we were already in front of the lift due to drowning with my daydream thoughts about the man beside me, not until Jaehyun called me with his low tone.
"Rosé?"
"Oh," I blinked then soon find myself standing in front of the open lift.
Everyone was looking at us, so I made it quick to enter the lift while Jaehyun followed after.
"Good morning, Engineer," The lift attendant stated before she tapped the button, which will take us to where Jaehyun's office was.
"Morning," Jaehyun sternly answered.
That resulted from having all of the people talk to him one after another.
"Good morning, Engineer!"
"Good day, Engineer!"
I wasn't used to hearing Jaehyun addressed as 'Engineer'; therefore, I find it eccentric. That made me ascertain that Jaehyun and I should have a space against each other since we were not on the same level – be it academically nor financially.
With that, I took a stiff little step on my right side since Jaehyun is on my left.
Since my peripheral vision is once again working too hard again, I saw Jaehyun turned to me with a creased forehead.
I pressed my lips together and sigh silently. I hope Jaehyun would let this pass. I am so nervous that he might make another scene again.
I saw Jaehyun's face as he leaned closer to me. Mischief is etched on his lips.
"Why did you do that?" He whispered, "Stay closer to me, Rosé."
I did not dare to look at him and instead nudges him using my elbow. That didn't give him the sign to move away from me, so I glared at him.
Jaehyun bit his lip and nodded as he moves his body slowly away from me. What shocked me is when Jaehyun caressed my elbow as he gradually pulled me closer to him again, just like where I was standing earlier before the employees called him as Engineer.
I perceive everyone's eyes gawking towards us, which caused me to blush immediately.
I suddenly have an urge to clarify things to them that Jaehyun, their boss, and I are not flirting with each other.
Although it just took us a mere minute before we reach the designated floor of Jaehyun's office, I must say that it is one of the most embarrassing and nerve-wracking minutes of my life.
I only got a chance to sigh in relief when we finally got off from the lift.
Jaehyun led me to his office while I followed him around. Just like what happened earlier, everyone's heads were craned towards us. I must admit that I am fond of attention, but this is not my thing. I don't want anyone to see me with Jaehyun. I don't want my name to be taint as someone who's behind Jaehyun.
The employees from GNEOJ politely greeted Jaehyun while Jaehyun just acknowledges them with a subtle nod. I find it rude and cold, but the employees looked pleased and used to it, so I did not fret.
We were almost in front of his office when someone blocked our way.
"Hey, Jaehyun!"
I blinked. It was Yugyeom. I have seen him in the VISION casino before. If he does recognize me or not, I am not sure.
"What brings you here?" Jaehyun asked as he frowned.
"I passed something in your secretary. It is a report from my Father," Yugyeom answered.
"Alright. I will just send an email to you regarding about it," Jaehyun formally uttered.
"Sure," Yugyeom grinned the soon squint his eyes as he looks over Jaehyun's shoulder.
I was behind Jaehyun, so eventually, Yugyeom eyes landed at me.
"Hold up," Yugyeom stated as his lips opened ajar, "I think I've seen her before."
"You must have mistaken," Jaehyun stated, "If you may please, we'll excuse ourselves now."
"I remember! You are the unfamiliar face from VISION casino, right? I wasn't able to get your name," Yugyeom said.
I gave him a small smile and looked down.
Jaehyun looked over his shoulder to stare at me, "Was that you?"
"Uh... yes," I said honestly.
"I knew it!" Yugyeom exclaimed. "Can I have your name now?" He suddenly added.
I was a tad bit taken aback and was about to answer him when Jaehyun said something before I even do.
"No," Jaehyun interrupted.
"Uhm, okay?" Yugyeom said, looking flustered as he scratches his nape.
"I think I know her too," Someone suddenly butts in which made me look behind Yugyeom.
Slowly, a girl slowly walked on the side with a pile of papers in her chest as she hugged it. She was smirking at me.
"You know her?" Yugyeom asked.
"Of course, sir," The familiar girl says, "Rosé is her name. Am I right?"
My palms started to get sweaty, and the adrenaline coursing through my system was shutting down my ability to think logically. I wanted to run or beat the living daylights out of the girl, either would do. All I want is for her to disappear out of my sight for good.
Why does she have to be here?
Why does Yuna from Westwing orphanage have to be here?
