3. Joshua
"You're kidding me right?".
"No, Mr. Anderson. I need you to work with her. I have a feeling you can learn much from her", replied Ms. Adams in a grave voice.
"So what do you want me to do?", I asked, annoyed.
"I just told you... work with her on your essay and project for the next 3 months".
"Does this count for extra credit... cause otherwise, this is useless", I said impatiently.
"It does count for extra credit... Now, if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere to be Mr. Anderson. Have a good day", Ms. Adams said, before turning to leave.
I swore under my breath in frustration. If it weren't for my bad grades, I would never have accepted working with Selene. I guess a part of me was annoyed at myself because of the way I've treated her before. Anyways, as long as this counts for extra credit, I'll take it.
Ms. Adams asked me to 'befriend' Selene and ask for her help writing an essay on the topic "What is the meaning of life?" and the big science project that is submitted at the end of the year. Consequently, I was asked to help her with anything she may need, considering the fact that she can't see anymore.
I raced up to her during dispersal. "SELENE! WAIT UP!", I yelled.
She came to a halt and turned to face me. "What's up Joshua?", she asked, looking straight in my eye.
I never really bothered to look at her in the eye before, but today I did. Her eyes looked grey and cloudy, missing the pupil. Although she couldn't see me, she looked at me straight in the eye and I could feel a challenging look play on her face.
Looking at her made me realize how pretty she was. Her light olive skin glowed in the sun. Her dark hair was flowing and her hands were-
"SNAP OUT OF IT", I reprimanded myself.
"Uh... Joshua?", she asked, in a searching voice, checking if I was still there.
"Yeah, I'm here. I uh... I need your help", I said, scratching the back of my head in embarrassment. Thankfully, she couldn't see it.
"Sure... with what?", she asked, before turning to walk towards the gate. She indicated me to follow her. I start walking with her and explaining my situation and how I need extra credit to pass and get a scholarship into a good college. I was trying to be as blunt as possible, but it's difficult when someone's willing to help you.
"Yeah I'll help you. But Joshua... I'm not doing it for you. I'm only going to help you do it yourself".
"Yeah, yeah", I said, half rolling my eyes.
"When do you want to start?", Selene asked.
"Uhh... how about next week?".
"Sure... you can call me when you want".
"But I don't have your-".
"It's in your jacket pocket".
I fumbled through the pockets and found a folded paper with her number written on it. Dumbfounded, I looked up at her face to see her smirk at me, before turning on her heel and walking away. Confused in spite of myself, I chuckled. How did she even do that?
I looked down at the piece of paper in my hand... Guess I'm gonna call her this week...
