Dr. Adams watched sadly as the young couple left, the young lady's head bowed. They had discovered they were pregnant out of wedlock, and decided to abort the baby at birth, three days ago. He knew he could lose his job for this, but he'd saved the baby girl, putting her into the foster system, and giving her the name Emma Lucy. She would keep her last name, though- Cooper. Emma Lucy Cooper. He went back to the nursery, picking up the tiny girl. She was beautiful. He just hoped that someday, she would find a family that loved her and would be willing to keep her.

Luke and Courtney Smallbone walked into the small children's home, shocked at how many kids were there with no families. But one girl, sitting off to the side with a pair of cheap earbuds caught their attention. Luke smiled, going over to her and kneeling down.

"Hey." Her head jerked up, and she scrambled backwards, startled.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm Luke. What's your name, love?" She looked at him cautiously, her ice blue eyes studying him.
"Emma. Emma Lucy Cooper." He smiled at her, and gently brushed a strand of tangled black hair behind one of her ears.

"Well, Emma Lucy Cooper, how would you like to meet my wife?" She giggled at the way he said her name, and nodded.
"Yeah. Where is she?" Luke pointed to Courtney, who smiled, coming over and sitting beside Luke and Emma.
"Courtney, this is Emma Lucy Cooper. Emma, this is my wife, Courtney. We got married about a year ago." Emma smiled at the young couple, looking from one to the other.
"Can....could I get to know you two a little better? You're the first ones who've really ever looked my way." Courtney smiled, hugging the almost seven year old.
"Of course, sweet girl. Maybe you can stay with us for a little while too." They'd been considering and praying about adopting her, after seeing her picture on the home's website. Now, after meeting her, they were sure that they probably would.

           Two years ago
"Dad! Mum wants you!! She says Phoenix is coming!!" Thirteen year old Emma hollered upstairs, almost three year old Jude on her hip. Luke came out of their bedroom, pulling a jacket on.

"Get Jude in the car, and we'll drop you off with Joel and Moriah on the way." Emma nodded, grabbing shoes, jackets, and the pre-packed backpacks from beside the door. They'd been ready for Phoenix's arrival any day now, so they knew what to do. Emma got her little brother in the car, and then got their things in right as her parents came out. Ten minutes later, they were headed into their aunt and uncle's house.

"Mum!! Dad!! Emma and Jude are here!!" Joel and Moriah's fifteen year old daughter, Camryn hollered, then went into a coughing fit.

"Ah, there they are! Luke and Courtney heading for the hospital?" Joel grinned, poking his head out of the kitchen.
"And Camryn, you okay?" She nodded, still hacking. Their aunt, Moriah, came in, putting a hand on her daughter's shoulder.

"Mama have ba-bee!" Jude crowed, a grin spreading across his face. Joel smiled, coming in and picking up the little boy.

"Yes, Jude, your mama is having another baby. And later, you'll get to meet your baby brother." Jude grinned, taking Joel's hat. Emma smiled, setting down the two backpacks. Camryn finally stopped coughing, then gestured to her cousin.

"You're in my room with me, Emma. Come on!" The two girls laughed, hurrying up the stairs and dropping Emma's stuff on the floor.

"Ooh, guess what, Camryn?! Your dad and my dad and mum said I can start singing with them!!" Her cousin tackled her in a hug, laughing.
"Yes!!" Emma laughed, hugging her back.
"Hey, do you want to come with us to the recording on Saturday?" Camryn's eyes widened, and she nearly jumped up and down.
"Yes!! Yes, yes, yes!!" They both laughed, hugging and nearly dancing. Then, they heard Joel calling from downstairs.

"Camryn!! Come on!! You've gotta do your vest, love!" The two girls hurried down, still giggling. She had to wear a sort of vibrating vest to help loosen up the mucus in her lungs. That weekend, they went to the studio, and the first song that she recorded with her dad and uncle was Shoulders. As she sang, she didn't see how anything could get any better. There didn't seem to be anything at all going wrong in her life.
