A First For Everything

Ezra sat in little Emily's room as she held her tightly. The whole night Emily had been waking up in screaming fits. This worried her because she had never seen her in this state before. When it was breakfast time the girl refused to eat.

Ezra had to hand feed her. She even helped bathed and get her ready. She just wanted to be there for her and so she stuck to her all day. They sat out in the garden as she read her a book. Her favorite book was called Benjamin and the 3 alligators.

Their mother had read it to her every night. It worried Ezra that mentally Emily was not doing okay. She tried playing dollies with her but the girl's heart was not in it. Eventually she had given up and ended up cradling her in her arms.

Ezra knew what the girl was feeling. Not having their mother around, things just weren't the same anymore. And what made matters worse was that there father was acting as if his wife didn't just pass away. The thought infuriated her to the very core.

Ezra called out to one of the maids to bring there family dog Axel. Emily loved playing with Axel and so she thought maybe this would cheer up the girl. The maid was practically being pulled as Axel immediately made his way to little Emily.

"Look Emily Axel is here" Ezra cooed helping the girl sit up. Her eyes were red from the constant crying. Emily gently lifted her hand to lightly pet Axel. And as is he could feel her sadness Axel howled and curled his body up against her.

And that was how their day went. Eventually Emily had fallen asleep and a maid took her up to her room. Ezra stroked Axels soft fur as she sat on the dewy ground. Her life was an utter mess and she had no idea how to fix it.

In the evening Callie had come to visit. They talked about most things and how she was coping. But most importantly Ezra had asked Callies advice on how to know if a man had feelings for them.

"Oh well it's quite obvious! They tend to stare at you with lovey eyes. Even going as far as complimenting you every chance they get" Callie said excitedly. She could see how red Ezra's face was getting.

Ezra was clueless when it came to love. She didn't know the first thing to do if one were confess their love to you. "Is there someone who has confessed to you"? Callie asked seeming confused in her sudden interest in love.

"Uhh...well... not exactly. But his actions perceive it to be so". The last thing she wanted was to interpret things the wrong way. What if he was just a friendly guy? She knew she shouldn't get her hopes up.

"Does this certain someone happen to be that secret admirer man from the picnic" Callie guessed with a wide grin.

"Well... maybe... I dont know! It's like everytime he's around I feel so much better. And yesterday he pulled me close and I... I felt like my heart would explode" Ezra said dramatically. She placed a hand on her heart. It was beating so fast and he wasn't even here!

"Ahh sounds like someone is in love. But your getting married... are you saying you've fallen for another man"? Callie gasped with surprise. Being a future queen sure seemed tough.

" It's so embarrassing! I've fallen for my fiance's brother! I don't know what to do! If his brother finds out I'm doomed. This marriage is basically an alliance to help save my image. If I don't marry him I don't know what will happen". Ezra's mind went back to the Jerome's words.

"Either you change your act and get to know me or I will walk away from this" ...

If he walked away from this marriage who knows exactly how the public might take it. "What if you were to gain your powers before the marriage? Wouldn't you have some say in who you choose to marry"? Callie questioned placing a finger on her chin.

This got Ezra thinking. "I haven't thought about that at all. The whole reason for this marriage is because I haven't gained my powers yet. But... if I were to gain them before I were to get married I could choose whoever I please". The revelation excited her until reality hit her.

"How on earth am I supposed to get my powers. I've tried everything but nothing has worked" Ezra sulked drooping her shoulders.

"My offer still stands you know. It is risky but worth a shot. You don't have to come up with a decision now. But do so quickly, unless you want to marry someone you don't love" Callie said placing a hand on her shoulder.

After their talk Callie had left for home. Ezra made her way back inside before she felt her body being pulled into a room. Her heart was beating a mile a minute as she realized she was in someone's arms. Pulling back she looked up into Shogun golden eyes.

"You scared me! What has gotten into you" she whisper yelled. A wide grin came onto his face before he placed a gentle kiss on her palm.

"I haven't seen you all day and this is the greeting I get ? You sure know how to make a man feel unworthy" he said dramatically. Rolling her eyes she stepped back to see they were in the art room.

"What are you doing here? And why did you pull me in here? She raised a brow as he took a seat on the brown couch.

"I told you I was coming to visit today. I wanted to see if you were okay" he ran a hand through his dark hair. He looked handsome in a white button shirt and some black pants.

"I'm hanging in there. I'm more so worried about Emily. She's been having a really hard time coping with everything". With a sigh she sat next to him leaving a small amount of space between them.

"Give her some time. She has you to look after her and comfort and that's all she needs right now". He grabbed her hand rubbing his thumb over the top her hand.

"Yeah she has me until she leaves. My father is practically throwing her out like some animal. What she truly needs is her father comforting her. But my father is too blind to see it". Every time she thought about it she wanted to scream.

"Well maybe your father is right. I think getting her away from the mansion for awhile will do her good" he said giving his opinion. He could tell she was angered at his words as she immediately retracted her hand from his.

"You can't possibly be serious. I can't believe you would agree with my asshole of a father. If that's the case I was wrong about you" she sneered. She could tell she struck a nerve as he too became taken aback.

"I simply gave you my opinion. Look I'm only trying to help". He stood up his face had a look of hurt. He hadn't meant to anger her and the look she was giving him made him feel even worse.

"You are just like your brother! Your opinion was not needed! You don't understand what I am going through and I sure as hell didn't need your input" she snapped.

He understood she was going through something right now. Maybe he had been wrong about his feelings for her. "Fine. This is the last time you'll be hearing from me" he walked out the room leaving Ezra holding her head in her hands.

The conversation had gone way to far. And maybe she misunderstood what love was after all.
