A Family's Truth
5 years later...
After years of waiting the day had finally come. It wasn't just any typical day. Steven sat crossed leg in his chair smoking a cigar. It was his daughters ceremony, this was where he would determine if she would rule after he was gone.
He had been training since she had cam here. But he wasn't sure if it was enough. Enough for her to rule greatly and not be killed by her own people. Five long years had passed and he had been waiting for this moment to arrive.
He heard the tiny pitter patter of feet running towards him. "Morning papa" his youngest daughter greeted him. His wife hadn't been able to bare anymore children after she had given birth to their daughter.
He had no choice but to make Ezra the next in line to rule over the nation. "Good morning my sweet child, did you sleep well" he stroked his daughter's blonde hair back. There was no doubt that he loved his children.
If only his wife had given him a son. Only then would his family be complete. "Yes papa, I slept realllly good" she beamed some of her teeth missing. He couldn't help but smile.
"Run along and have breakfast. Today is a big day for your sister" he said with a gentle smile. He watched the girl run off in excitement. Today needed to go as planned. There was to be no mistakes.
Everything needed to be perfect.
On the other side of the mansion Ezra had just woken up out of her sleep. Wiping the sleep from her eyes she stretched her arms out wide before stepping out her bed. Just then little Emily came flying into her room her blonde hair bouncing behind her.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY SISSY" she screamed loudly. Ezra couldn't help but smile as she pulled her sister into a hug.
"Thank you Emily" she said patting her head gently. Today was an exciting day for her but it was also the scariest. Today she would finally gain her powers and soon she would take her father's place.
He had ruled over the pyrokinesis nation for years. He had took over the role from his father and now it was her turn. He had trained her well and she knew what was to expected of her.
"Papa said to come downstairs for breakfast" Emily said bouncing up and down. With a nod Ezra shooed her out the room so she could freshen up. She washed her face and brushed her teeth. She pulled her long dark hair away from her face.
Today was her sixteenth birthday. Everything would change for her and hopefully for the better. Her heart beat increased as she thought about meeting suitors.
She had never had a boyfriend before. This would be different ad her father would be arranging her marriage. He had already made a marriage arrangement for her little sister Emily. She had no clue when it came to boys and their particular ways.
Dressing herself in a pink gown and some white shoes she made her way downstairs. As she stepped off the last step she felt a large nudge.
"Axel you need to be more careful" she scolded the large wolf dog. With a loud bark he nudged his large head into her side. She stroked his white fur and he purred with content.
"Come along now Axel, it's breakfast time" she cooed before walking toward the dining room. Her father sat at the head of the table and along with Emily.
"Will mother be joining us" Ezra asked confused. After giving birth to Emily her mother had become utterly depressed. She rarely ate and she spent most of her time in the gardens.
"She is having her breakfast in the room" her father said spreading some butter onto his bagel. They sat in silence as they at their breakfast. Ezra watched in disgust as her sister ate with her hands.
"Emily use your fork not your hands" Ezra reprimanded. Ezra knew the young girl looked up to her. That's why she always made sure she provided her with a good example.
When breakfast was finished Ezra followed her father into his office. "I have a gift for you" he said opening a drawer in his desk and taking out a small gift box.
Taking it in her hands she gently opened the lid of the box. In the box was a beautiful locket bracelet. It looked familiar but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. When she opened the lock she found it to be empty.
"Thank you papa, it's absolutely beautiful" she gloated. He helped her put it on and she held the locket tightly in her hand.
"Go and speak to your mother. She wants to see you" he said with a wave of his hand. With a nod she kissed her father on the cheek before making her way to the gardens. Her mother's favorite flower were roses. Her mother was a quiet woman but breathtakingly beautiful.
After she had given birth to her Emily she had became distant. A year later she had found out she was no longer able to carry children. This had made her depressed and she wasn't the same woman Steven had fell in love with.
Not to mention she would no longer be able to provide him a male heir. In his eyes she was utterly useless. He would only use her to cure his sexual desires and to care for his daughters.
Ezra opened the glass door to the gardens. There her mother stood standing in a field of roses. Her blonde hair was braided and it cascaded down her back.
Ezra had always noticed how different she looked compared to her sister. Emily had their mother's blonde hair and blue eyes. But Ezra had dark hair and pale green eyes. She looked more like her father than her mother.
She quietly tiptoed towards her mother who had her eyes closed. "Mama... you wanted to see me" she said softly not wanting to scare her. She opened her eyes shifting her eyes to Ezra.
A soft smile appeared on her face. "Happy birthday darling" she whispered placing a hand on her cheek. Ezra sent her a kind smile, it was very rare for her mother to speak.
"Thank you mama. Will you be coming to my ceremony"? She asked seeming hopeful. She wanted her whole family to come in support of her gaining her new powers.
Her mother nodded and she breathed a sigh of relief. "If only you had come from my womb" she whispered confusing her. Sometimes her mother would whisper gibberish things that she could never understand.
She stood with her mother for awhile until a maid had come to fetch her. "Milady it is time to prepare for your ceremony" the maid said. Ezra kissed her mother's cheek before leaving with the maid.
