Mal laughed with her friends, watching with joy and pride as the isle kids mingled with the Auradonians.
Isle kids and Auradon kids were laughing and dancing and talking with one another.
The Auradon adults were slowly introducing themselves to the kids and some were even making small talk with a few of the more approachable villains and henchmen and no fights were breaking out. It was almost a dream come true.
Almost.
"You did it! You did it!" Ben laughed gleefully, eyes sparkling as he hugged her and their friends, jumping up and down like a little kid; ecstatic that his dream had finally come true.
"No Ben, We did it, " Mal corrected, smiling.
It was technically true; none of this would have ever been possible if he hadn't believed in her and in his crazy dream as strongly as he did. She and her friends would have never stepped foot off the isle if it wasn't for him. Wouldn't have this wonderful life.
There was only one thing missing...
"Mal! Mal!" A very small, familiar voice called out from the bridge, drawing her attention to it and away from Ben immediately. Her eyes watered and her knees wobbled; could it be—?
Mal was tackled to the ground by the small ball of energy that was her little brother, Hadie, who was laughing gleefully. She stuck her hand up at the guards who had made a move to move forward, silently signaling that this was okay— that it wasn't a problem and Hadie wasn't a danger — as she laughed and curled around him.
"Hey spitfire.. " she responded softly, eyes full of emotion— it had been so long since she had seen him. Nearly two years in fact and she had missed him so much...
"Mal! Mal! We're free! We're free! You did it! I knew you would!" The 10 year old cheered excitedly, bouncing around in her arms.
He had gotten so tall and his hair was darker than it used to be but his smile was the same.
Bright like the sun.
God, she had missed that little smile of his— it was something that never seemed to go away.
A light that the isle couldn't snuff out.
"Yeah. We are" the purple haired girl replied, not bothering to correct him on who did what as she slowly stood up— still holding him.
She knew people were staring— that this wasn't every queen like, but she didn't care. Not now that she had her brother back. Not now when they were free to be by each other's side without fear of her mother's wrath. They didn't have to be strong anymore— They didn't have to act tough and uncaring anymore.
And it felt great.
"Mal, who's this?" Ben asked curiously, tilting his head to the side with a slight smile. Mal had never thought that this moment would come, but here it was. Hadie buried his face in her shoulder, shy as always. She hugged him tighter, trying to give him some silent comfort— trying to convey that Ben was safe.
"Ben, this is Hadie. My brother" There were no words to describe how good it felt to finally be able to say that out loud, let alone how it felt to tell someone that.
Ben just smiled at her and bowed when Hadie peeked at him, causing the boy to giggle uncontrollably. " I'm Ben. It's nice to meet you, Prince Hadie.''
Hadie smiled and Mal did too, knowing that everything was going to be alright and that the two most important men in her life were gonna get along just fine.
