Chapter 8
I woke up on a bed. I felt someone holding my hand. My eyes fluttered open, and I sat up.
"Hey. You're awake," Cole said. He was sitting beside my bed, on a wooden chair. He was the one holding my hand.
When I saw it was him, my heart skipped a beat. His hand was soft in mine. It felt nice.
"How long was I out?" I asked, rubbing my eyes with my free hand.
That's when Cole noticed that he was still holding my hand. He quickly dropped it, and stuffed his hands in his pockets, his cheeks red.
"Um, two days. I just woke up, like fifteen hours ago. Don't worry, I wasn't watching you sleep for long," he whispered sheepishly.
I found his embarrassment utterly adorable. On most people, blush makes them look bad or like a loser, or whatever, but on Cole, it made him look hot. Like a sexy insecure kind of thing. It just looked good on him, okay?
I smiled. "What about River and Kacey? Are they okay?"
"They're fine. They both only slept about a day. We both know we took the brunt of it, especially you."
"How are you? Your ankle?" I asked.
"Only a little sore. You?" Cole replied.
I moved around a little bit, then stood up. Aside from being stiff and sore, like Cole, I was fine.
"How? How are we fine? It's only been a few days," I asked.
"The magic of nectar and ambrosia."
"Nectar and ambrosia?" I asked, confused.
"Yep. The gods's food. In small dosages, it helps demigods heal faster, but in large doses, we could burn up."
"Oh. You know a lot about this stuff."
"My seeker crammed as much information into me as possible. Anyways, River is waiting for us outside to show us around. You ready?" Cole asked, a simple smirk on his face.
"Sure. So, this is the camp?"
"Yep. We're in the infirmary. Let's go!"
Cole gently grabbed my wrist and lead me outside. It was late in the afternoon, maybe five. The sun was preparing to begin setting. It was warm, but not humid or uncomfortable.
The camp was beautiful. There was a beach on one side. All of the cabins on the other. There was a strawberry field, n archery range, a big house, and more. The place was surrounded by thick woods, except for the beach side, of course.
We met River right outside of the infirmary. He led us around the whole place.
"Those are the cabins. They're is one for each of the gods. You'll probably stay in the Hermes cabin, at least until you're claimed."
River pointed out everything. I was in awe by the time we were done. The camp was amazing. Absolutely amazing. I was fascinated.
After that, we went to dinner. Dinner was eaten outside, next to a fire. We had to pour a portion of our meal into the fire, as a sacrifice for the gods or something.
We had just started eating, Cole, Kacey, and I were at the Hermes table, like River said, when I noticed everyone was staring at me. Well, they were staring above my head.
I looked up. There, above my head, were twelve hovering symbols, one for each of the gods.
A centaur walked quickly towards me, Chiron, I think. "Electra Boone, I was warned about someone like you. Your are a part of each of the gods. You have thirteen parents," Chiron said.
I raised my eyebrows. "Thirteen way sex?" Cole muttered. I shot him a look.
"No, Cole, it didn't happen like that. Not sure if that's even possible," River said.
"Guys, please. I'd rather not disguise how I was born, okay?" I said, rolling my eyes.
That shut them up. Cole mumbled an apology, then turned back to his food.
"Why do I have thirteen parents?" I asked.
"Zeus's master plan. He thinks combining all of the twelve Olympians and a human will make a super demigod. He thinks you'll be the most powerful demigod ever," Chiron explained.
"I'm supposed to be the most powerful demigod ever?" I asked. I couldn't believe the expectations.
"Yep. No pressure there," Cole commented.
"There's more. Hades has been rebelling. He's decided that he can't stand the mistreatment anymore. He's threatening war. Your father wants you to be the one to take him down," Chiron said.
"I'm supposed to defeat Hades?"
"Yes, but Hades also wants you on his side. He wants you to take down Zeus and the other Olympians, because, remember, you're part him, too."
I had to choose between parents. How did anyone do that? How was that even possible to do?
"I have to choose between parents?" I asked. Chiron grimly nodded.
"Geez, that sucks," Cole commented.
"Thanks for the support, Cole," I whispered, sarcastically.
"Sorry, Electra," he whispered back.
"Well anyways, I hope you feel at home at camp. I'll talk to you later, Electra," Chiron said, before trotting away.
I nodded, the things he had earlier mentioned swarming my brain.
First of all, I had thirteen parents, and only one of them was human. The rest, were the twelve Olympians, meaning, Zeus, Hades Poseidon, Artemis, Apollo, Athena, Aphrodite, Dionysus, Hera, Demeter, Hermes, and Ares.
Second of all, one of my fathers, Zeus, wanted me to take down one of my other fathers, Hades. Then, Hades wanted me to take down Zeus. I didn't know either of them, so how could I possible choose between them? I didn't know which one was good, which one was bad, if I should trust either of them, or if I should just stay out of it entirely.
Even as I thought through the situation, all eyes were on me. Everyone was silent and just stared at me. So, this wasn't normal. This had never happened before, so I felt like an animal in a zoo. I guess I kind of was. I was something extraordinary to them, like a celebrity. I hoped it wouldn't stay that way, I hated the attention.
I turned back to my friends and tried to ignore the stares. Cole brushed my hand, trying to pull me back into reality, and the conversation the table was having.
I guessed they were talking about sleeping arrangements, from the snippets of conversation I had heard.
"So, Kacey and Cole, you guys still aren't claimed, so you'll have to sleep in the Hermes cabin, until you're claimed by your parent," River was saying.
The pair nodded. It didn't look like they wanted to be crammed in with the Hermes kids and some other unclaimed children, but who would? I certainly wouldn't. I hoped that wasn't where I was going to end up.
"Now, Electra, about you. You could technically stay in any of the major gods's cabins, but Chiron suggested Zeus, since there's no one in there and there usually isn't. Everyone, but the big three, have pretty much filled cabins, and Percy is in Poseidon, and Nico stays in Hades once in a while. Jason might stay there a couple times, but not often, so Zeus is your best bet," River continued. I nodded in agreement.
After dinner, River showed Kacey, Cole, and I to our cabins. The Hermes cabin was filled to the brim with kids. I felt increasingly bad for our friends, especially when I saw my empty cabin.
It had a big statue of Zeus in it, it was kind of scary. It towered over me, reaching the ceiling. There was also two bunk beds, making a total of four beds. Then there was a desk, on the other side. Everything was empty and clean and mine. I loved it. It felt like home.
I set down what few belongings I had, which was pretty much just my knife. I hoped that I would find a better weapon soon.
I was just picking a bed, the top left one, closest to the statue, when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" I called, walking over to the door.
It creaked open, revealing a boy with raven back hair and sea green eyes and a girl with blonde curls and stormy gray eyes. The boy had a casual smirk planted on his cheeks, while the girl wore a shy smile. They were holding hands and looking at me expectantly.
When they realized I wasn't going to say anything first, the boy said, "Hey. I'm Percy Jackson and this is Annabeth Chase." The girl waved a little.
"Hello, I'm Electra Boone," I smiled.
"So, I heard from Chiron that you have thirteen parents. A part of each of the twelve Olympians," the girl, Annabeth, said, trying to keep the conversation going.
"Pfffffhhh, thirteen way sex," Percy muttered. I smiled when I realized that that's exactly what Cole had said. Maybe we'd be like them someday.
Annabeth slapped the back of Percy's head. "She's just a child, Percy. Keep the dirty jokes to yourself."
"I'm fourteen, and don't worry, my friend, Cole, said the same thing."
"Well, see I told you Annabeth, great minds think alike. Anyways, my father is Poseidon, and Annabeth's mom is Athena," Percy informed.
I nodded. "So technically, you're related to pretty much everyone here. Except for the minor gods's children. That's so cool," Annabeth commented.
"Does that mean I can't date anyone here?" I asked, my mind drifting to Cole.
They both laughed. "You're only a tiny part of them, so I think you'll be okay. Why, you have someone in mind?" Annabeth answered.
"No. Just wondering," I quickly covered.
Annabeth nodded knowingly. "Well, we'll see you around, Electra. Have a nice night," she said.
"Yeah, have fun trying to sleep under Zeus's careful watch," Percy called, as they exited.
After that, Cole and Kacey came to say goodnight. They both gave me a hug, before leaving again. I thought Cole wanted to stay a while, but I also sensed that he was reluctant to leave Kacey alone, especially to walk back to their cabin by herself.
Once they left, I went to sleep. Percy was wrong, I didn't have any trouble falling asleep under the statue. I didn't feel small or insignificant, I felt powerful. I felt at home. I felt protected. I fell asleep instantly.
