Chapter 11
Three weeks later, Percy was perfectly fine. It was at dinner, when big things started to happen.
I was sitting alone, as usual, at the Zeus table. I could technically sit anywhere I wanted, but since I chose to stay in Zeus's cabin, I was supposed to eat at his table too.
I was just eating a cheeseburger, when suddenly I heard gasps. I looked up and around, to see all eyes on Cole and Kacey. A bright blue symbol glowed above each of their heads, though they were different.
Chiron galloped up to them. "Cole Anderson, son of Apollo, and Kacey Clark, daughter of Aphrodite!" He announced.
The whole place cheered and screamed. Cole grinned and looked up, admiring the symbol of his father. Kacey blushed and squeaked.
Then they were sent to different tables. Cole was reluctant, but the Aphrodite girls and boys accepted the little girl with open arms.
Cole got slapped on the back a bunch of times, as he sat down at the Apollo table. They looked a little less inviting, probably because of the look on Cole's face. He looked overwhelmed and angry that he had to leave Kacey.
He looked at Kacey, then his eyes drifted over to me, desperately.
"She'll be okay," I mouthed. He nodded, his face softening a little.
They finished dinner at their new tables. After dinner was over, Cole met me right outside, as we waited for Kacey to come out. He needed to make sure that she liked where she was, before he could relax.
"Relax. She's fine. She can take care of herself," I said, putting my hand on his arm.
"I know, I know. It's just that I've been her guardian for a while now, and now that I'm not, I don't know. I don't know what to do with myself," he said. He took a step towards me and put his face in my neck. He made a noise, and I laughed.
"Look, there she is. She looks happy," I said.
Cole stood up and looked over at Kacey. She was walking and talking with her new found friends. They seemed to be hitting it off. We waved her over.
"Hey guys. Look, I made friends!" She squeaked.
"Yeah, I see. That's awesome. Do you like them? Are they nice?" Cole asked.
"Yeah, they're great. I really like them. Now, I have to go. They're going to show me our cabin!"
Kacey skipped away, a happy smile present on her face.
Cole watched her go. He didn't look happy that she didn't need him anymore. I had to distract him.
"Hey, do you want to take a walk? How about on the beach?" I asked.
"Uh, yeah, sure. Let's go," he answered.
We walked along in silence for a little while. He looked at the ground, while I watched him.
"So, Apollo, huh? You're good at archery, so I guess that makes sense," I said.
"Yeah. I mean, there are worse people to be my dad. But, doesn't that kind of make us related?"
"I guess, a little bit. Huh, that's weird to think about."
"Yeah, it is."
"If you could have anyone as your father, who would it be?"
"Zeus."
"Why?"
"So I could live with you. Plus, I heard some of his kids can fly. That's be so freaking cool."
"Yeah. I don't think I can. I wouldn't know how to try, though. What am I going to do, jump off of a bridge and hope that I fly?"
"Yeah, that's probably a bad idea. Don't worry, I'll figure out a way to try it, without putting you in danger. I promise," Cole joked.
I laughed. "I'll be waiting for that day."
We both sat down in sync. We looked at each other and laughed again.
Cole stretched his legs out and leaned back on his hands. I sat beside him, my legs stretched out too, but his going much farther.
I shivered a little, since it was cold out. He looked at me.
"Are you cold?" Cole asked.
"A little, but don't you dare give me your sweatshirt."
"Wouldn't dream of it, that is way too cliché for me," Cole grinned, wrapping an arm around my waist and dragging me into him. I was tucked into him, really close. I leaned my body into him and put my head on his shoulder.
He smelled really nice, and he was warm. His warmth seemed to expand from him and into me.
"I'll do this instead," Cole whispered, his breath caught in his throat from our contact. I could see his Adam's apple bob.
"I like this much better," I murmured, burying my face in his neck. He softly kissed my forehead.
I smiled. In that moment, I didn't want to be anywhere else. I wouldn't have traded that moment for anything else in the world. Not a real family. Not a good home. Not to be normal. Not a steady life. Not a million dollars. Not anything.
"Cole?" I whispered, looking up at him.
"Yeah, Electra?" He murmured, his lips so close to my face.
"Everyone keeps telling me to choose a side. What am I going to do?"
"Honestly, I don't know. You just have to do what you think is right. Whatever you choose, I'll be right there beside you. Okay? I'll always be there for you. Understand?"
"Yeah. Thanks, Cole. You're really awesome, you know."
"I know, I am pretty great."
That made me laugh. I gave his side a playful push, and he laughed too.
I turned my attention to the water. The waves crashed down onto the sand. I closed my eyes and listened to the rhythmic beating.
"Electra?"
"Cole?"
"Do you think Kacey will still talk to us?"
"Of course, she will. She loves you. You're like her older brother, her family. She's not going to abandon you. We're a family now, all four of us, River, Kacey, you, and me. All of us. I promise."
"Thanks, Electra."
