A couple years later

Kate has spent the day with the Fortress family in Gettysburg. They arrive back in Red Oak at 5:00. Jonah and Kate are getting out of the truck, and Michael is headed to the back to get Kate's backpack when without warning they hear the squeal of brakes down the street followed by the sickening sound of metal crashing into metal and glass breaking. Jonah flips his phone to Michael calling out "Call 911, tell them Main Street." as he dashes down the street. Kate follows but with every step he seems to increase the distance between them. Jonah easily reaches the accident before she does, but even as she runs she can see the entire scene unfold. Jonah checks on the driver of the closest vehicle, a larger SUV that apparently pulled into the path of a smaller sedan, and sees that the driver appears to be okay and moving. Jonah then moves to the other car, whose driver is slumped motionless over the steering wheel. Jonah leaps over the crumpled front of the car standing next to the driver's door. Seeing the window down, he reaches in the car and in one smooth motion pulls the door off of the car, breaking the hinges and locking mechanism all at once! Jonah then reaches in his pocket and pulls out a tool that looks like a small flashlight, but the beam is a short, bright red light.

"It must be a laser," thought Kate because within seconds Jonah is pulling the driver's lifeless body free of the wrecked vehicle. He's gently laying her down on the pavement when he sees Kate arriving beside him.

"Kate! Quick! Sit here!" Jonah exclaimed. He puts the woman's head on Kate's lap.

"Is she......she....?" Kate stammers.

But Jonah's eyes are closed and he doesn't say anything. He then places his hand on her chest. Within moments the underside of his hand is glowing red, then orange, then bright yellow. The bright yellow spreads across the inside of the woman's chest and as it does, her chest begins to spasm. Then it spreads to her arm, legs, then finally to her head. Her back suddenly arches, her head snaps back, and she takes a huge breath of air. "Ahhhh....."

Kate is shocked! Did she really see what she just saw? Jonah's face is expressionless and businesslike. He doesn't say a word. Minutes later Red Oak's ambulance is pulling up to the scene. The man and the woman from the accident are sitting together on the sidewalk curb calmly exchanging insurance information. Jonah, Kate, and Michael are heading back up the street to the Remington house. Kate is still mulling over what she saw she blurts out, "Did you just.....bring her back to life?"

Jonah is silent for a few steps then responds, "Not by my strength, not by my power, Kate," he pauses, "...but by the Spirit." Half a block later, they're back at Kate's house where they started. Michael heads to the Hummer where Staci and Derrick are waiting patiently beside it. Kate and Jonah continue on to her house. Kate runs up the front steps two ahead of Jonah and whirls around to look at him eye to eye. Even two steps up, she's still looking more at his mouth than his eyes. She studies his face for a moment then asks, "Jonah Fortress, who are you?"

"Kate, you've known me since kindergarten," said Jonah.

"But, you're not an IT guy or a Systems Analyst like you tell everyone. What do you really do?" Kate inquires.

"I help people. Protect people. And sometimes, like today, if everything goes right, I can save someone's life," Jonah replied.

"What about Black Knight Oil and Gas?" asked Kate.

"They still do gas drilling and oil exploration, but the division I work for is a shadow company. And they've been around longer than anyone knows," responded Jonah.

"So....." began Kate, but Jonah put his finger to Kate's lips.

"It's been a very long day. We'll talk about this another time, okay?" Jonah says softly. Kate nods. Jonah kisses her on the forehead and says, "Goodbye, Kate."

"Goodbye Jonah," she replies.
