First Day of Birth

Author's Note: This poem is the third chapter of my work The Clock Exploits. The chapter went too abstract, so I felt the emotion was better conveyed through a poem. This chapter is dedicated to @Klaius for motivating me to post this poem here and providing some invaluable advice! It's been five years since I wrote a poem. So I sincerely hope you like this one.

I woke up at the dawn of birth,
For that was the only dawn I knew;
I walked along the line to see,
For that was the only line I saw anew.

I swam the water to get to the other side,
I made a boat to ride the mad waves,
I saw the shore but not the ride,
The ride itself was infinite,
And there was no shore.

The castles I made to suffice,
Were to protect my soul from the mad waves;
I looked down from the crevice,
My soul itself was infinite,
And there was no castle.

I walked back across the line to find the start of it all,
The dawn visible in the distance;
The dawn that spoke of birth.
I reached to touch the light that shone within.

Only to realise what could not die could not be born.
