12- Another day at school

Jeriard's POV

I woke up laying in Rose's bed. I must've forgotten to go back to my room. I stretched my arms and legs and yawned. I'm so tired. Wait, where's Rose? I looked at the bed next to me, but she wasn't there. I jumped out of her bed and ran out of the room crashing into someone in the process. I heard something shatter and I saw Rose glaring at me soaked in coffee. I tried to give her an apologetic smile, but I saw the anger in her eyes. "Sorry," I apologized.

She stood up and scowled at her clothes. "I feel sticky. You will pay for what you have done," she threatened. I smirked. Ha, I want to see her try.

"Girl, don't hurt yourself," I retorted. I stood up from the floor. Yup, now I have to clean up this puddle of coffee. I walked to the closet in the hallway and took out a mop and I started cleaning the mess. After I was done, Rose slammed the door in my face and locked it. Breath. Just Breath. "I made that coffee for you by the way! I personally despise coffee with all my heart!" she shouted from behind the door.

Oh, great. Now I have a cranky Rose to deal with. I went into the kitchen and started making pancakes and sausages. Once I was finished, Raphy entered the kitchen and grabbed four of the pancakes and two of the sausages. "Morning," he chirped as he walked to the dining table with his plate.

"Morning," I muttered sheepishly, my eyes half open.

Rose walked into the kitchen wearing a clean outfit; an orange sleeve-less shirt that has "DANGER!" written across it and dark ripped jeans. She locked eyes with me and held it there for a long two minutes, shooting daggers. "Watch your back today, because my shirt tells the truth," she threatened. Why does she have be so upset? It was just coffee.

I parked my car in my usual parking spot and we all got out and I heard Rose's door slam. This is going to be a long day. Raphy jogged up to his friends that consisted of soccer players and some popular girls. I opened the front door of the school for Rose, but she quickly opened the other door letting herself in. I place my hand on my heart, scoffing. Wow, that really hurt. She is really good at being evil, sometimes.

I followed Rose as she walked through the crowded hall. I noticed her pace quicken, when I looked around I saw that nerd named Henry standing at his locker. I really wanted to beat his face in for even looking at my girl.

Rose tapped Henry on the shoulder and he turned to face her. They both immediately brightened. "Oh, hey Rose," Henry greeted as he closed his locker.

"Henry, did we have homework for chemistry?" Rose asked, walking with Henry to the lab. "I kind of wasn't paying attention." She gave him a halfhearted smile.

"No," he simply answered. He sighed and Rose looked at him with an, 'I know you want to say something' face. "Rose, I'm having a pool party Saturday. If you want to go it'll make the party more interesting and you can get to know some people from school," he offered.

Rose smiled then pushed him slightly to the side as to say he didn't have to be so shy and he chuckled in embarrassment. "Of course. Do you have a phone? I can give you my number and you can text me the details," she answered.

Henry handed her a damaged cell phone and she punched in her number. Then Rose took out her blackberry and gave it to Henry so he can put his number in. They finally arrived in front of the lab's door. "Save me a seat," Rose said, turning to walk up to me.

She gave me her heart-stopping smile and stopped a few inches away from me. "It's ok if I go to Henry's pool party, right?" she asked, looking up into my eyes her brown eyes full of respect.

I closed the distance between us and softly took her waist. My heart raced when she placed her hands onto my chest. "Yes, I want you to make your own friends so you won't always be alone when I have work to do," I approved.

She kissed me on the cheek and cupped my face in her hands. "You're an amazing boyfriend," she whispered. She swiftly scurried inside the lab to her first class as the bell rang. Now, I need to go to class. I walked into my literature classroom and sat near a window. The whole entire hour in class we discussed different types of poetry. The bell rang, but I almost didn't notice.

I left the room and waited for Rose to come out and we walked together to pre-calculus. Rose wrote down all the notes and somehow finished the class work early. While I on the other hand, was still working on it. I heard Rose and Henry chatting about Henry's nerd friends. The bell rang and I was still not finished with the class work, but I turned it in, anyway.

I allowed Henry to walk Rose to our next class, because I needed to go meet up with Raphy. I entered the boy's locker room to change into my P.E. uniform. As we walked out of the lockers, Raphy ranted on about Milli, but I couldn't focus; I was being alert for Rose is still trying to get back at me for spilling the coffee she made for me, but for some reason she is acting too normal. Did she forget?

Today we were indoors and we're going to play dodge ball. Coach blew his whistle and we all gathered around. "I want Jerry as one team captain and Milli as the other, now get into respectable teams," Coach shouted.

All my friends gathered around me, and all the nerds with the company of Rose gathered around Milli. We picked a side and Coach blew the whistle signaling the start of the first game.

None of the other team ran to the middle, but all the jocks from my team grabbed a ball and threw them. Three nerds caught the ball making the people who threw them out. One of the nerds threw a ball at me, but I dodged it and picked it up. I threw one at Rose and since she was already holding a ball she hit it to the side and surprised me by quickly hitting my foot. I'm out. I jogged off to the side.

I looked at Rose jumping and running away from the hurdling balls. She hit five jocks out, but then she got hit in the stomach. I think it was thrown way too fast, since it knocked Rose off her feet. Nonetheless, she shook her head to get rid of the shock and walked off to the side. Our team won the first game.

The second game started, but it got so much more intense. When the whistle sounded, the jocks started running but the nerds stole all the balls and struck out five of my teammates. Ray picked up a ball and threw it too roughly at Rose, but before it hit her Milli jumped in front of it catching it in the process. Ray yelled out in frustration.

Henry struck me out, and Rose struck Raphy out, too. There was only five people left from my team and they were all preppy cheerleaders. I saw Rose smirk. "Now you get what you deserve for kicking that soccer ball," Rose yelled. She threw the ball and it flew across the gym hitting a blonde girl straight in the face. All the other girls screamed in fright and were instantly struck out by the nerds. We lost the game and there was no more time for another one.

The coach blew his whistle and everyone on my team booed the other team. Some people even called out, "Nerds!" or, "Geeks!" but the other team laughed and high-fived each other.

At lunch, I sat at a table with some of my pack; Raphy sat next to me, Ray a big player from our school sat in front me, Leon sat next to him, and Sarah sat next to him. We sat near a window in the corner of the cafeteria. I had bought a hamburger from the lunch lady, and got a soda from a nearby vending machine. As I took a sip from my coke, Rose came and sat next to me with a tray of fruits. She really loves fruits; sometimes it's all she eats. "Hey, Jeriard," she greeted with a kiss on my cheek. "Hey, everyone," she waved to everyone else at the table. They all nodded.

I introduced Rose to the pack who sat with me at lunch yesterday, but I still need to talk to my entire pack in the weekend. I really don't want to be thinking about that, so I took a bite from my burnt hamburger. Ew. I might just go hunt after school or something because this is disgusting. I threw the burger onto my tray and leaned back against the window. "So, Rose, how are you liking Jumping Heights?" Sarah asked Rose while munching on some chicken nuggets.

"Oh, it's cool here. I like the atmosphere," Rose stopped what she was doing and gave Sarah her undivided attention. Sarah has dirty blonde hair, and light blue eyes that seem to brighten anyone's day.

"Atmosphere?" Sarah considered the table then glanced around the cafeteria. Sarah's really smart, too. She gets straight A's and always talks with facts.

Rose giggled. "Yes, atmosphere, as in how this place makes me feel." Rose looked out the window as if there was something interesting out there. "I feel like most people are so welcoming and I feel like I actually belong here. Maybe it's just because my last school I had to hide to survive, but I feel like myself when I'm here," she explained as she remained facing the window.

Sarah nodded, and turned to Leon and they started talking about some random stuff that I didn't care about. I faced Rose who quickly stood up and walked away. I guess my time is up.

Rose's POV

I kept my eyes on the forest just beyond the football field. I saw a shadow travel across the line of trees. I followed it with my eyes then it stopped moving. I leaned in closer, squinting; I was trying to see what it was. Then I saw him, it was Henry and he was looking straight at me. My heart leapt. Why was he out in the woods? I immediately took my bag and ran to the back door of the cafeteria that led to the football field.

I ran toward Henry who I now saw was leaning on the tree waiting. I felt my heart thump rapidly from running and my eyes start to burn. I heard the blood pumping in my ears as I raced across the field to my friend. I finally reached where he stood and I totally collapsed on the grass out of breath.

I heard a deep chuckle escape Henry's lungs. I stared at him dumbfounded. "Why... are you out... here?" I asked in between breaths.

He offered me a hand and I took it gratefully. I leaned against a tree for support. "I always come out here for some fresh air and privacy," he explained, coming closer to me. "Do you like it?"

I smiled and looked around. It was nice and shady and there was a perfect breeze out here. "Yes."

"It's too bad we have to go back now," Henry mentioned, stepping even closer to me. "But if you want you don't need to walk," he offered taking my hand in his.

My heart floated and I stopped breathing. "Um..." I was at a loss for words, but I managed to take my hand away from his. "I have a boyfriend so I don't think you should hold my hand. Just in case, for your safety." I gave him a forced smile.

He laughed under his breath. "Yes, of course. I'm sorry for making you feel uncomfortable," he apologized. His gaze landed on my eyes and I stared into his dark alluring eyes; I'm almost a hundred percent positive that his eyes were pure black, but I wouldn't dare comment.

"You don't make me feel uncomfortable, I just don't want you to get on Jeriard's bad side," I tried to cheer him up.

Henry pulled me into a tight hug. "I'll take you back, then," he whispered, his cold breath tickling the back of my neck, which sent a shiver down my spine.

Suddenly, it got really hot and black smoke enveloped us and when it cleared we were in the hallways of the school. What just happened? Henry broke out of the hug and laughed. "I didn't want you to walk all the way back, if that was ok with you," he said giving me his award-winning grin. His eyes were now his normal dark brown color. "See you in art class." He walked away vanishing in the swarm of students.

Dazed and still at a loss for words, I walked to my history class, but I couldn't pay attention with so much questions swarming my mind. The next two classes flew by and I was now headed toward the art room. I opened the door and sat next to Henry. Henry waved at me and I just gave him a brief nod. "What's the matter, Rose?" Henry asked me when we were given our assignment, which was to attempt to sketch scenery. What is his power? What is he?

I drew a light line across my paper for a horizon line. "Nothing, I'm just interested in something is all," I answered Henry. I started drawing trees.

"What are you so interested in?" he said picking up his pencil to start the task at hand.

"Just you." I quickly drew some fluffy clouds on my paper.

I heard Henry sigh. "I know what you mean by that. You want to know what I am, but I want to tell you when I think you're ready to hear it," he told me.

I drew a sun hiding behind the clouds. "I respect that."

"What about you?" He asked.

"What about me?"

"What's so special about you? Why are you here?" He clarified.

I thought about it for a second, "I have no idea... I'm here because I know I'm different."

He nodded. "What can you do?"

"I can control the elements," I said, "Fire, water, and earth."

"What about wind?" he pointed out.

"I'm not sure."

After forty minutes of drawing I finally finished. "Done," I announced.

Henry quickly took the paper from me. "Let me see it then." His eyes searched the paper. "Wow, it's magnificent," he complimented. He placed it back in front of me.

"Thanks," I muttered. It was a garden full of rose, lavender, sunflowers, forget-me-nots, and my personal favorite the hibiscus flowers that bloomed from the trees. The sun's rays shined upon the garden and birds flew passed; butterflies and bees accompanied the flowers.

Once Henry finished he showed me what he drew. It wasn't perfect, but it was not terrible. He drew a wolf and a shadow figure in a forest. There was a huge boulder on the ground and there were eyes in the darkness of the trees. The grass was speckled with droplets and it was raining. "Amazing," I told him.

The bell rang and it was time for me to go. I picked up my belongings and turned in my masterpiece. I looked at what the hooded girl drew before I left. It was a drawing of a mountain view and I saw the moon so I supposed it was nighttime. Today was actually very interesting. A wide grin spread on my lips and I couldn't take it away.
