Chapter 12
21st March 2012
Isaiah and I couldn't sleep much after hearing what Amber had to tell us, so we woke up pretty early.
It was about 6:20am when Isaiah and I actually got out of bed and Charlie hadn't left yet.
We were going to the bathroom to start the day and were met with Charlie on the landing. I couldn't even look at him.
"You!" Isaiah growled, pointing a finger at him.
"Her death is all your fault!" He grabbed Charlie by the collar of the shirt he was wearing and pinned him on the wall.
"I should kill you for what you did to her. I should let you face a slow and painful death, tear your limbs from your body one by fucking one. Touch anyone else the way you touched Riah or Jessica and I swear on my baby sisters I will end your life. Prick." He sauntered into the bathroom and I followed. He really was managing his anger better.
After we brushed our teeth and showered, separately of course, we got dressed and went to eat breakfast.
We were sitting in silence as we ate but we both knew what the other was thinking about. Amber. I still could not fathom the level of anger and bitterness Amber would need to be able to not help someone in the situation Jessica was in.
"I can't stop thinking about it either." His voice brought me out of my thoughts.
"It's hard for me to believe she would do something like that." I nodded.
"Amber's ruthless." He shrugged. I agreed, sipping on my smoothie.
"Speaking of the devil..." I looked up as Amber strolled into the kitchen looking defeated.
"Guys please stop looking at me like that." She begged. Isaiah kissed his teeth.
"How do you expect us to look at you? After you told us what you did, how do you ever expect us to look at you the same? Tell me that, Amber. If I said I allowed Charlie to hurt Jessica would you ever look at me the same way? No? I didn't fucking think so." He grabbed his keys and walked straight out of the house.
"This is all your fault." She said to me.
"Excuse you, how exactly? Don't start on me, Amber. For real I'm not built to deal with your shit so just stop it okay." I kissed my teeth. I washed up, feeling her staring at me.
"What?" I turned around.
"You understand why I did it, right? Why I had to do it."
"You didn't have to do it, no one held a gun to your fucking head telling you to allow it to happen."
"Yeah, but-"
"But nothing. What you did was wrong and you shouldn't have done it. End of story." I turned back around, wiping down the counter tops. She sighed.
"Why are you so angry at me?" Is this chick dumb? I swivelled around instantly.
"Why am I so angry at you? Are you fucking serious, Amber? You've been airing me ever since you found out about Charlie, been hostile towards me, told me you knew what he was doing to Jessica and now you want to sit here and say it is my fault? Amber I don't play games like that so don't fuck about, for real, I've got no patience to deal with you. I don't even know where we stand anymore. You've been acting like I don't exist and been treating me so bad I don't know if I want to be your friend anymore." I returned my attention to the cleaning.
"I'm sorry."
"Okay, because saying sorry makes everything better." I rolled my eyes.
"What more do you want me to do?"
"Nothing! I don't want anything from you anymore. I thought I wanted my friend back but I don't know whether I should give you the chance." I left her standing there and made my way upstairs.
"If you want to make things right between us, come talk to me during the week." I called.
Kacey ran to me when she saw me.
"Good morning!" I smiled, swooping her up in my arms and giving her a big kiss on the cheek.
"Hi!" She replied. I took her into the bathroom, helping her to brush her teeth. I took her down and got her breakfast, watching her eat.
"Are you going home soon?" She asked. I nodded.
"I'm going to come back to see you though. And Isaiah." I pinched her nose.
"And Amber?" She looked up at me.
"And Amber." I wasn't going to tell her what happened between me and Amber. She smiled.
I was really upset to be leaving here. It would be Kacey's 3rd birthday soon and I wasn't going to be here for it. I would try to get permission to come and see her for it and I'm sure my parents would let me considering everything that's happened.
28th March 2012
I was going home today. I had mixed emotions about that. I was going to see my family and friends again but I was also dreading it. I know my parents wouldn't ask much but Rianne and Tina definitely would.
Sally found out that I talked to Rianne and ordered my parents to monitor her phone so we were unable to talk again after Charlie. Sally also didn't visit as frequently as she said she would. She was only coming today because it's my last day.
I woke up to the smell of bacon. Yum! I quickly brushed my teeth and showered, putting on my grey jogging bottoms and my black long sleeved top. I put some gel in my hair to make the curls pop and then left it alone allowing it to air dry. I left the room, closing the door behind me.
When I got downstairs I wasn't expecting what I saw.
The table was crammed with food like bacon, scrambled eggs and hash brown, making up the English breakfast. Everyone was downstairs waiting for me, it seemed.
I looked up at Mrs Duboe and she smiled warmly.
"We always pamper everyone on their last day."
"You didn't have to." My heart swelled. They really were too kind.
"Nonsense! Of course we did! We're really going to miss you." She smiled again.
"I'm going to miss you too. Thanks for this." I nodded.
I sat in between my two favourite people, Isaiah and Kacey and began to eat.
"So what are you planning to do once you get home?" Mrs Duboe asked.
"I don't know. I just want to drop my stuff off and then go and see my friends and my sister. I don't really want to see my parents to be honest." I sipped my orange juice.
"I understand." She nodded and reached across the table to place her hand on mine. "You've always got a home here. You know that right?"
"Yeah."
"I mean it. You're always welcome here, Riah."
"Thank you." I smiled again.
After eating breakfast, Isaiah and Kacey joined me in the living room helping me to pick out a film for us to watch.
"How about Transformers: Dark of The Moon?" I suggested. Isaiah gasped to which I asked him what was wrong.
"Nothing. You're a Transformers fan too?"
"Of course, Transformers is my favourite film series."
"Oh my days, see, this right here is just clarification that we're made for each other." He nodded. I laughed and he pulled me in for a kiss. His lips are so bloody soft, I tell you.
"Damn, you're really trying to seduce me aren't you?" He smiled.
"Not at all." I smiled sweetly, ignoring the look he was giving me.
We sat watching the film for about an hour before I realised Kacey had fallen asleep on my chest.
"I'm gonna take her up." I mouthed to Isaiah. He nodded slowly, not looking at me probably because he was so engrossed in the film.
I lay her on her bed and turned to leave the room. Charlie was standing in the door. I wasn't even scared of him anymore, he just got on my nerves and made me angry.
"What?" I crossed my arms. He had an apologetic look on his face.
"Look, I'm sorry. About everything. If I could take it all back I would."
I shook my head.
"Don't apologise if you don't mean it." I shrugged.
"I mean it. I shouldn't have let myself do it. I put you in such a horrible position and made your first weeks here miserable. I couldn't stop myself, you reminded me of her-"
"Jessica?" I asked. He gulped before nodding. I felt my eyes getting teary as he continued speaking.
"When I saw you, your curly brown hair, your smooth skin, it just reminded me of her and I wanted to do what I did to her all over again. When you came, I thought I had a new opportunity to repeat everything but I know now that my actions were wrong. I'm sorry." He apologised again.
I shrugged. "I can't forgive you, Charlie. You caused that poor girl so much pain. She was bloody pregnant for crying out loud. With your kid, might I add. To know you wanted to repeat that with me, no I can't ever forgive you for that, I'm sorry. Excuse me." I wiped my eyes and proceeded to push past him when he grabbed ahold of my arm.
"Let go, Charlie."
"Wait."
"No! Get off!"
"Wait, wait, wait." He sighed and hung his head, rubbing his forehead. He looked down at me.
"Just, please don't tell anyone when you go." He pleaded. I furrowed my brows and scoffed before pulling my arm from his grip and heading back downstairs.
He put me in a bad mood by talking to me and Isaiah seemed to notice my mood change when I entered the living room.
"What's wrong?" He pestered. I shook my head, brushing him off.
He was staring at me for a long while but didn't ask anything.
I cuddled up with him and continued to watch the film.
I didn't realise I had fallen asleep until I heard my name being called and felt fingers running down my hairline.
"Riah, baby wake up." Isaiah's voice called softly. I breathed deeply before opening my eyes slowly and looking up. He grinned as I faced him.
"Good morning." He chuckled. I shook my head briefly and laughed. I sat up and stretched.
"Why'd you wake me?" I looked at him.
"Hello, Riah." Sally was standing in the doorway.
"Wow, you're here already?"
"Yes. I'm going to take you home." She smiled, walking into the living room.
"Does it have to be now?" The fact that I was leaving this place was finally sinking in.
"Yes, I'm sorry." She replied.
"No, can't she stay another night?" Mrs Duboe appeared.
"I'm afraid not, Mary."
"Oh come on. Another day won't hurt! And I'm sure your boss won't even notice."
"Her family has been told that she's coming back today, I'm sorry." She shook her head.
"Can't we wait a couple of hours?" I asked.
"No." She replied bitterly.
"Now go and get your things. A cab is outside waiting."
I couldn't believe how rushed the leaving process was.
I felt like crying. I sulked up the stairs into the room. I had already packed my things so all I needed to do was take them down. I sat on the bed for a while. Isaiah walked in.
"Hey, are you ready? Sally 's in quite a hurry." He said. I sighed and looked up at him, tears forming immediately.
"I don't want to go back." I sniffed, putting my head down as I cried. He rushed to me and knelt down, placing his large hand on my knee.
"Hey don't cry. You're going back to you're friends and your family. Your twin! You've missed them all and you're finally going back to them. Don't be upset."
"But I'd rather be here. With you. And Kacey." I sobbed.
"You'll get to see us. Whether you come back here to visit or we all make it a day trip to come and see you, you will see us baby girl, I promise." He chuckled, wiping my wet cheeks. I nodded, sniffing.
"Ah, god. This is hard." I whispered.
"I know."
"I never anticipated this. I didn't think it would hurt like this but it really hurts." I shook my head wiping a fresh batch of tears.
"We'll be together one day babe. Just me and you." He stood up and I followed suit.
"I'm gonna miss you so much, Isaiah." I looked up into his eyes. He gave me a small smile before biting his lip and looking down at mine. He wrapped his arms around my waist slowly, pushing my body into him. My arms flew up around his neck as our lips met. Words cannot describe how perfect that kiss was. His unbelievably soft lips captivated me. It felt like our souls were connecting.
As the kiss grew deeper, he held me tighter, bringing his hands down to squeeze my bum. We both moaned into the kiss as my fingers played in his hair. Our tongues glided around in our mouths in perfect synchrony. We kissed for a long time, about 3 minutes. He finished off by biting my bottom lip gently which sent a new wave of pleasure down my body.
My breathing was heavy as I tried to catch my breath. He suddenly kissed my neck and collarbone, causing me to yelp. I moaned as he nibbled on my skin, definitely leaving a hickey. He pushed me onto the door before continuing his kisses down my body. He nibbled on both of my boobs and on my stomach just below my belly button, before returning to my neck.
I breathed in sharply, moaning at this feeling of utter ecstasy. I knew my panties were soaked and I could feel his hardness pressing into me as he pulled my bum so he could grind into my thigh.
"Isaiah." I whispered.
"Yes baby?" His voice was raspy.
"We have to stop now." I replied, rubbing his neck.
"I don't want to baby." He muttered.
"Neither do I. But I have to go." I sighed. He froze momentarily before giving me another peck on the neck and standing up straight.
He kissed my lips again.
"Don't freak out about what I'm going to say. I'm going to tone it down so it doesn't seem or sound so weird, especially since we've only known each other for two months." I stared at his chest.
"What is it?" He asked. I looked at my feet. He lifted my head and looked me in my eyes.
"What is it?" He repeated. I licked my lips.
"I think I love you." I gulped as I waited for him to respond. He looked at each of my eyes and a massive grin exploded onto his face.
"I think I love you too." He nodded. I couldn't help but smile with him. I giggled.
"Riah, are you ready?" Sally's voice called. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, I'm coming! Just give me a minute!" I yelled.
Isaiah helped me take my stuff downstairs. Mrs Duboe gave me a bag.
"Its what we were planning on having for dinner. It's for you so I thought you'd want some to take home." She smiled. I hugged her tightly.
"Thank you for everything Mrs Duboe. Really, you've been amazing." I smiled.
I hugged the small kids and said bye to them, saving Kacey for last. She looked like she was trying not to cry.
"Kacey." I kneeled down. She gave me a tiny smile and looked away from me.
"Aren't you going to give me a hug?" I opened my arms and she stood there, seemingly contemplating whether to hug me or not. She finally flung her small body into my arms and I enveloped her in the biggest hug I could give.
"Riah we need to go." Sally tapped my shoulder.
"Don't rush me." I glared at her. I felt Kacey's body shake as she began to cry.
"Don't cry, Kacey. I'll be back. And maybe one day, I might even take you to come and stay with me for a little bit." I tried to soothe her but it didn't seem to be working as well as it used to. She was bawling her eyes out, and I couldn't do anything to make her feel better. Isaiah had to pry her from me.
He gave her to Mrs Duboe and smiled shyly.
"I'm going to miss you." He said simply.
"I'm going to miss you too." I used all my might to try not to cry. I think he could tell because his smile faltered and he immediately hugged me. I closed my eyes and breathed in deeply. I loved his scent. I was basking in his presence. He gave me a small kiss.
"Where's you're phone?" He asked. I gave it to him and he put in his number. I put on my body warmer.
"Oh, I nearly forgot." He jogged upstairs and returned shortly with a small box and a medium sized teddy bear. He handed me the teddy.
"To remind you of me." He smiled.
"I'd never forget you." I laughed. He gave me the small blue velvet box.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Open it and you'll find out."
Inside was a gold vertical bar necklace with my name on it. I gasped and looked up at him.
"Isaiah I can't take this."
"Yes you can."
"I can't. How much did this cost anyway?"
"It doesn't matter. It's yours." He nodded.
"I can't take it."
"Yes you can, I want you to." I slumped my shoulder in defeat.
"Would you like to do the honours?" I handed him the necklace.
"Gladly." He smiled shyly. I turned and lifted my hair as he gently put the necklace on.
"And here." He took his beanie off the hook and put it on me. I grinned and hugged him again.
"Thank you."
"Riah, we really do need to be leaving." Sally's voice was really starting to get on my nerves. I kissed my teeth.
"Bloody stop reminding me, for fuck sake, I know!" I snapped. I hated that she was in such a rush, it was only quarter to four, we had plenty of time to get back.
"You're leaving already?" Amber and Charlie walked through the front door. I wondered why they had come in together, Charlie was meant to be at work.
"Yeah, I am." I let go of Isaiah.
"It's not even four yet." Charlie looked down at his watch.
"Well, I guess if you must." He stepped aside to allow room for Sally and I to pass.
"It was great having you here." He spoke. I nodded. Amber just stared at me.
"The cab is not going to wait forever." Sally tapped me. I picked up my bag, slinging it over my body. Amber had yet to say anything to me, even though our little dispute was not my fault. I looked at her.
"D'you have anything to say?" I asked. She was silent, her arms crossed over her chest as usual. She opened the front door.
"Bye." She said that with so much attitude and bitterness, I tell you. I scoffed and shook my head in utter disbelief.
"Amber!" Mrs Duboe scolded.
"It's fine." I said.
"Bye guys." I smiled, blowing a kiss in the direction of Mrs Duboe and Isaiah.
With that, I walked out and didn't look back. Back to my problems we go.
