(Y/n)'s POV
As I sat on my bed with an open book laying in front of me, I dived myself into a world that was vastly different from my own reality. It's one of my favorites things about reading; living a whole separate life that gives you a satisfying break from your exhausting one - everyone deserves an escape once in awhile.
My attention was locked inside of the story, so I didn't even hear Anakin's motorcycle come down the street as I usually do, nor did I hear him knocking.
What I did hear was the sound of my front door opening and closing. My dad was already gone for work, and Josie split over an hour ago to go have a secret meet-up with Piett. So I knew it had to be him, and I did once tell him he can come inside whenever he wants.
(Remember it's the 50's, no one ever locked their doors when they were home - some even not when they weren't home.)
"You can come up," I shouted as I continued on reading, but when I didn't hear a response or even the sound of steps ascending the stairs; I grew confused, "Ani?" I looked up and stared into the hallway through my open door.
After a few more seconds of silence, I placed a bookmark to mark my page before I closed it and pushed myself off the comfort of my bed.
I poked my head out of my room, and listened for any noise. If it was any later I'd probably just hear the sound of crickets chirping. Now I began to second guess myself on if I had heard anything at all, or if it was my mind playing tricks on me.
I walked over to the railing and took a glance at the foyer below me, right where the front door was - something caught my attention. Now I knew that I hadn't just heard anything because the small indoor wreath we keep on the door was swaying side to side. Meaning that someone had to have opened the door.
"Anakin, are you here?" I called to him, but once again, I didn't get a response. I groaned in annoyance as I turned to the stairs and began descending them, "If you're trying to scare me blondie, it won't work. I don't scare so easily—"
"Boo!" Anakin popped out from the living room to my right, just as I reached the bottom of the stairs.
I immediately screamed and jumped out of my skin from how much he startled me. "Ani!" I scolded him as I smacked him on the chest while he continued to laugh as hard as he could over my fright.
"What happened to 'I don't scare easily'," He mocked me.
I scowled; folding my arms over my chest,"You're not funny, I almost had a heart attack."
He didn't stop giggling as he grabbed my forearm and pulled me towards him, "I'm sorry beautiful, but that's what you get for leaving your doors unlocked when you're home alone." He pinched my cheek playfully, but I could tell he was a little annoyed at me that I kept the door unlocked.
"Nothing ever happens in this boring town, so why should it matter?" I shrugged.
"Now that is where you are wrong. A lot more happens in this town than you think," The grip he had on my arm tightened as he used his other hand to poke my nose, "So please always keep your door locked if you're alone. I'd hate to have to go back to jail for killing anyone who dares lay a finger on you." He rubbed my cheek with his knuckle dotingly.
I rolled my eyes in a lighthearted manner, "You're so dramatic," I wrapped my arms around his neck, "But I'll keep my doors locked if it makes you feel better."
He smiled victoriously, "It does," He bent down and gave me a quick peck on the lips as he placed his hand on my waist, "Now come on, let's have a look at that car."
🤍
I was sitting on top of a stool in my garage as I watched Anakin work. I was also not so subtly checking out his physique after he blessed my eyes by taking his jacket and shirt off. He remained in only a white undershirt that was beautifully see-through since he was sweating due to the warm summer air.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, he is handsome.
"So where exactly did you buy this car from?" He asked with knitted brows after stepping back from the open hood and wiping his hands clean.
"Iida's shop," I responded simply as I took a bite of the pudding I made the day prior, "Why, is there something wrong with it?"
He closed the hood, "No I was just curious, it's in pretty good condition," He threw the rag he was using to clean himself on top of the car before walking towards me, "You'll probably need new brakes soon, as well as a new radiator, and the tires on the back are a little bald, but I can take care of all of that for you tomorrow." He placed his hands on the sides of my seat before leaning down and opening his mouth; silently requesting for me to share my dessert.
"Sounds perfect," I smiled as I put a spoonful in his mouth, "How much do I owe you for your time?"
He chuckled as he swallowed the sweet chocolate, "At least one kiss per minute," He rubbed his nose against mine with a wide grin on his face.
I set the container in my hand on the table behind me, and I raised my hands to run them through his hair, "We may be here for awhile."I pulled his face closer to mine so our lips grazed. It's difficult to be in the same room with him and not want to be as close to him as I am now. My body always craves to be close to him, and my lips quiver as if they're asking for him.
"Fine with me," He whispered before gently pressing his lips to mine as his hands began to grip my thighs.
Our lips moved quickly, and I nearly fell backwards out of the chair, but he grabbed my waist and kept me in place.
I could hear him begin to mumble something against my lips, but given our current situation, it was difficult to understand him, "What did you say?" I asked without ending the kiss while I gently tugged on his roots.
"I want to be exclusive," He spoke more coherently, and I abruptly paused after I registered his words.
I backed away slightly and met his nervous expression, "You want to be exclusive, with me?" I blinked in surprise. I have no idea why I felt so surprised by this. Obviously, I already knew he liked me; I guess I just didn't expect him to ask me this so soon.
"I'd be stupid not to want that, although I don't want you to feel pressured to if you're not ready, I'll understand if you say no," He cupped my cheek genuinely with a look of sincerity, "But I want to show you off to the world. I want go out on countless dates with you, I want to wear matching clothes, and I'll watch Peter Pan with you every night if you want to," He chuckled, and I found myself smiling involuntarily as my heart rate began to pick up. All of that sounded amazing, it sounded like something I deserved, "I want all that sappy shit, and I want it with you."
I gazed into his eyes with a glimmer of adoration, "Is this your way of apologizing for your outburst today?" I chuckled as I tightened my hold around his neck.
He immediately shook his head as realization crossed his expression, "No, but thank you for reminding me," He reached back and pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket. He began unfolding it in front of me and I dropped my hands from his neck when I saw what it was.
"You actually did it," I stated in disbelief as I grabbed the paper from his grasp. On the paper was a portrait drawing of me, and it was beautifully done. It looked like I was at work, my hair was up in a messy bun with stray strands covering parts of my features, and there were smudges on my face that was probably flour. I appeared to be looking down behind the counter, and I held a mischievous smile, "Wait is this-"
"The day we met, yes." He responded before I could ask. He placed his hands back on my thighs as he spoke, "This is how you looked right before you threatened to spray me with the hose, you seemed incredibly excited about it." He chuckled at the memory, "And it was also how you looked the first time I laid my eyes on you. So undeniably perfect."
I kept my gaze on the drawing, and I could feel myself being pushed to the brink of tears, "This is amazing thank you."
I know I asked him for a portrait, but I thought he forgot about it and I didn't expect it to be this thoughtful. I was mostly expecting just a drawing of me smiling - or something basic like that.
But this, he captured the moment that started our relationship, even if neither of us knew it at the time.
"I'm happy that you like it, I didn't even continue working after you left today - I spent my time finishing it," He placed his fingertips under my chin, and lifted my gaze back up to meet his, "Do you think you can forgive me?" He asked softly, "I never want to see you cry because of me again."
I blinked my tears of joy away, "You are more than forgiven." But that fact that he has a secret is not forgotten, I'm just willing to be patient with him.
His smile widened and I took notice to a small dimple that never caught my attention before, "So, about that question," He nervously began as he dropped his hand down and gently stroked my thigh, "I know we've only known each other a few weeks, but I like you and I want you to be my girlfriend. Officially."
I wanted to say yes, dear god that's the first word that lingered on the tip of my tongue. But my fragile heart needed some assurance first, "Are you sure that's what you actually want, you don't want to take more time to see-"
"No amount of time is going to change my mind about you," He interrupted my words of insecurity as he raised his hands and wrapped his arms my waist.
"But," I nervously looked down while my eyes watered, "Why me? I'm nothing special."
"Look at me," He demanded softly, and I slowly lifted my gaze back up, "You're more than special, and you're everything that I could ever want or need. I know why you're afraid, and you have every right to be, but just know that I only have eyes for you," He assured me as he lightly kissed the tip of my nose; making my heart pound, "I promise I won't hurt you, just as long you also promise you won't hurt me either."
I nodded slowly as I did my best to blink my tears of happiness away, I truly hated crying in front of others - for any reason, "I promise," I leaned my forehead against his, "But there's still one thing Ive been meaning to ask you first before I officially agree to anything."
"Shoot." He kept his forehead against mine, and raised his hand to trail his fingertips along my jaw - his eyes holding a look of pure devotion.
"Did you know who I was when you met me?" I asked.
He furrowed his brows as he slowly shook his head, "No, I told you I didn't know who you were until we went to see the stars that night."
I swallowed, wanting to believe he didn't lie to me, "I talked to my dad about the day he found you," I revealed and Anakin didn't say anything, he only looked slightly stunned and confused, "He said he showed you a picture of me."
His furrowed brows deepened and it looked as if he was searching his mind over what to say next. Finally after a few silent moments with only the sound of our breathing being heard, he spoke, "I vaguely remember him talking to me about a daughter and showing me a picture, but I wasn't in my right mind (y/n). I was on something so that night was a terrifying blur," He admitted shamefully with a sigh, "I didn't put together who you were until you told me your name, and if I'm being honest, I probably never would have even approached you at that bonfire if I knew you were his daughter."
It was just as my dad theorized - he was too messed up on whatever was in his system to even remember that he has seen me before. His words also came out sounding sincere, and I had no reason to not believe him. That night was the most tragic nights of his life, why would he bother to remember one small moment?
"Why did you approach me at the bonfire?" I tilted my head curiously; deciding to change the subject to something lighter, plus I was curious as to why me of all people caught the attention of this angel.
He cleared his throat as he glanced down, "Um, I remembered you from the bakery," He slowly looked back up, "You also looked really sad over what happened, a drunk Josie was too busy plotting a murder to get up and check on you, and I was anxious to talk to you again; you intrigued me." He smiled with a wink.
I chuckled lightly, "How so?" I leaned forwards and grazed my lips against his.
"Those eyes, that smile, those lips, that attitude, and that beautiful soft voice," He whispered breathlessly, as if my actions put him under a spell. He tried leaning forward to kiss me, but I was being a tease and hid my lips from him. He groaned, "Please just tell me you're my girlfriend now. I swear all I want to do is make you happy."
I dotingly gazed up into his eyes, "Anakin, I would love nothing more."
