I stopped clawing at the ground and took a deep breath, it was exhausting and we've been doing it for what felt like hours. I whipped some sweat off my forehead and got back to work, as I was digging I glanced over at Bobby who had found a couple shovels in the school shed." You don't have to do this ya know..." I turned to see Bobby looking at me. I shook my head and got back to work." At least use a shovel!" He said trying to hand me his shovel. I look past him at the other kids using shovels and digging like crazy. Again I shook my head.

"Don't. Need. It." I said grunting as I grabbed a huge rock that was wedged into the dirt. I heard Bobby sigh and before I knew it, he was next to me pulling out the rock." I don't need help!" I snap. He jumps back and I look away." Sorry... I guess I'm still shaken up about..." I felt a tear roll down my dirty cheek and I quickly brush it away. Can't seem weak. Prove my work. Push it, come on Kyla push it! I then worked harder. I dug and dug till I had a hole big enough for my hand. I pushed my hand through and I could see my finders break the surface on the other side." Guys!" I say happily. They all come over and cheer, we then all work on that specific spot and one by one, we all crawl through.

"We're free!" I yell jumping into the air. Then Bobby picked me up." You did it! We can go home!" He yelled spinning me around. When he put me down we were really close, I could practically hear his heartbeat. We were leaning closer until...

We all heard a scream.
