Part 2

Not very far away from this scene, Dynamene climbed onto the windowsill of her bedroom. This was nothing new. In fact the window half thought of itself as a door by now. It had lost a little bit of its windowness but on the whole, in the hierarchy of furniture, it considered itself as having received a promotion.

For a moment she sat there, looking out at the night. Her long dark waves of hair shifted slightly in the night breeze. She slung her legs out, one after the other and jumped with the unstudied gracefulness of a monkey.

A quick walk and she found herself on a street flooded with light. Light poured from doors, windows, and signposts as they invited guests in. Faint music floated somewhere above her head. The noises of humanity drifted around her like a cloak that kept the cold out. She liked coming here and with the confidence of someone who had been loved and adored all her life, she did what she liked.

The little pub radiated warmth and smelled of pie crust and chicken. The place was lively as always but not what could be called crowded. She sat at the bar and looked around at the people.

Within a few minutes she realised that the pile of coats in the corner chair was moving and in a few more she realised it was also attempting communication. The poor bundle was ignored as is the custom in any good pub when people try to speak softly. "Hello" she said, "need help?" The bundle of clothes shifted in its chair and two spectacled eyes looked at her out of a cyclone of scarves coats and hats. "Mimblewimble" "what's that?" She asked.

Scor was unpleasantly surprised by the empty burning he felt in his stomach. He had walked through the night for what had seemed like ages and until the smell of food had led him into the pub. He had been trying to obtain some of the food for a while when someone disturbed his process. "I'm looking for some food." He said. "You should get the chicken. I always get the chicken." He looked at the man taking orders and in a desperate attempt shouted. "I WANT CHICKEN"

"Alright alright, there's no need to shout." The man said and disappeared into the background. Dynamene smiled and settled down to her usual pastime of watching people.

After an interval that felt like an eternity to Scor but in real time was nearer 10 minutes, the server came back and put down a plate in front of Scor. As he shovelled hot food into his mouth Scor realised the scope of his assignment for the first time.

There were so many people here. Finding lore might sound like a simple enough thing. In reality what Scor was looking for was one gigantic lie that the entire world would believe. He needed to convince them all that the world was ending and then he would have to end it in that way.

Desperate, confused, and with no idea at all about what came next, he did something stupid. He asked for help.
