💜 Prologue
—Nii-san, nii-san, tell me that story again, please. —You asked me each time you came to the hospital. I smiled and then started to tell the legend which you always wanted to hear.
—A red thread connects those who are destined to meet. Time doesn't matter. The place and the circumstances are not important. The thread can be stretched out or tangled up but it will never wear out.
The legend tells that long, long time ago a Chinese emperor ordered to their subjects to bring him an old sorceress who was able to see that thread tied to people.
When the old woman was in his presence, the emperor required finding the end of his thread in order to meet his future wife. This search led them to an ancient market where a humble peasant, who carried a baby, offered her products. The sorceress got close to the lowly lady and ordered her to stand up. Then she asked the emperor to approach them.
"Your thread ends here", said the elderly woman while holding the feeble peasant's hands.
When the man heard these words, he got mad. She was lying! The emperor shoved the peasant. Because of this, she fell to the ground and the baby got an injury on her forehead. Then, the sorceress was executed by cutting her head off.
Time passed and he needed to get married. His court recommended him marrying a recognized general's daughter, so he accepted.
The day of the wedding arrived and the bride went into the temple wearing breathtaking ceremonial clothes. The woman's face was covered by the veil. The emperor took away that veil and saw a little scar on the forehead of the gorgeous lady".
When I told you this legend, you always asked whether that story was real. However, one of those days you kept quiet and looked to the floor. That reaction worried me. In fact, I thought you were about to cry.
—You said that everyone decides if they believe that legend or not, but I don't know what I should believe about it. —Suddenly, you rose your head and looked at me with resolute eyes. —I'm going to ask you to tell me the legend of the red thread until I will have taken my decision —Your determined speech made me laugh. I even thought I was running out of oxygen.
—Wait, Yuuichi, I was a child! —Now, you seem peaceful but you keep your hands inside your pockets. —Moreover, I'm not interested in that topic.
—Ok, I won't talk about that subject anymore. I just remembered it and I got curious again because you didn't tell me your final decision.
—Should I tell you every thought that goes through my mind?
—It's not necessary but you did it before.
—Things have changed now.
—Do you think so? —I laughed —The child interested in the red thread legend is still somewhere inside of you. —I pointed to him.
—Uh? —He looked his phone. —Sorry, I have to go now. It's late. —He stood up. —Goodbye, nii-san.
—See you, Kyousuke. —I said goodbye with a big smile before he left.
Then, he went out of the room and close the door.
Couldn't you see it? Your excuses are still awful.
