"Ladies and gentlemen, Midway International Airport. Local time is 7:26pm and the temperature is 23 degree celcius.
For your safety and comfort, please remain seated with your seat belt fastened until the Captain turns off the Fasten Seat Belt sign. This will indicate that we have parked at the gate and that it is safe for you to move about. At this time, you may use your cellular phones if you wish.
Please check around your seat for any personal belongings you may have brought on board with you and please use caution when opening the overhead bins, as heavy articles may have shifted around during the flight.
If you require deplaning assistance, please remain in your seat until all other passengers have deplaned. One of our crew members will then be pleased to assist you.
On behalf of Alaska Airlines and the entire crew, I'd like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we are looking forward to seeing you on board again in the near future. Have a nice stay!"
The moon illuminated the whole Chicago as the yellow and red car lights were seen. Hustle and bustle of people moving around the city was heard as the plane landed.
Inside the business class were Neesha and Vedant. Vedant was fast asleep and Neesha was working. It was around 3 days after their reception. After her parents said about their so called gift in front of media, they weren't able to deny.
And as the same morning they have decided to give this relationship a chance, they didn't discuss about this too. They just agreed.
Everyone, including Neesha's parents, Aadith and Vanya were in the airport to bid them bye before they took off.
Dressed in a simple off shoulder dress with a with shrug, she looked really beautiful. But what enhanced it was the chuda in her hands and bits of mehndi in her hands and legs.
She has been noticing the stiffness in Vedant's figure since he got to know about their honeymoon. A little part of her heart felt dejected thinking he might not be happy about their honeymoon but then she didn't want to just jump on conclusion.
Maybe he isn't happy about the place? But why?
He isn't someone to throw tantrums about a location.
Shrugging off her thoughts, she payed her attention to the captain's announcement. As the plane successfully landed, she placed her laptop aside and wore her discarded shrug and then got up to wake her husband up.
"Vedant? Vedant? Wake up." She whispered kneeling to his face.
"Hmm? We reached?" He asked goggily.
"Yeah. Get up and get my bag from the overhead bin." She stood up straight as he rubbed his eyes.
She noticed his disheveled hair as he looked around. She saw the way his adam apple bobbed as he gulped water. Her lips became dry as she saw his t-shirt rile up as he reached to get her bag.
"Mam, your luggage is shifted to your car which you have booked-" The airhostess approached them.
"But we didn't-" Neesha frowned, turning and facing her.
"I did. I booked us a car, which will be with us throughout this trip." Vedant said as he wore his jacket and picked up his travelling bag.
"Thankyou. You can go now." He nodded at the hostess and she scurried off.
"Let's go before the exit get crowded, shall we?" He said and she nodded as both of them got out of their compartment and got down the place.
It was night time but their wasn't dark anywhere. The huge building of the busiest city of U.S was keeping the whole city bright. The sound of car honks and feet brushing against the ground.
The City of Chicago is situated above sea level on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. At 190 km wide and 495 km long, its the 5th largest body of fresh water in the world. The city is traversed by the Chicago and Calumet rivers.
Looking around all they could see was long roads and planes taking off and landing. There was a think layer of excitement in the air as various tourists got off the plane and sprinted towards the exit.
Neesha and Vedant looked at each of as they got a feeling of what is going to be changed in this city. Their eyes locked and he forwarded his hands and she placed them, interlocking it.
As they got outside, there were several people standing off the railing waiting for their dear ones. There were many taxis and their drivers talking with each other in groups.
As they were about to get outside, Vedant stopped Neesha.
"I'll get fresh and come within 5 minutes. Stay here!" She rolled her eyes as he jogged back to the bathroom, soon getting lost in the heavy crowd.
Thankfully there weren't many people where she was standing but yet, when she was taking out her phone from her bag a person collided with her causing her bag and the items inside it to fall down.
"What the hell!" She heard the other person screech.
"Where were you looking while walking? At some damn pillar?" She heard her ask again as she counted till ten in her mind in order to calm herself down, though it barely worked.
She turned and looked the the person. There stood a red haired blonde, wearing a tight red dress that showed her nipples and around her height with a model like figure. She looked around 24 year old if not more. She would be the same girl whom you don't want your boyfriend to meet.
"I was standing here. You were the one who was looking at a fucking god dammit pillar and collided with me." Neesha tried to say calmly though her voice became a hiss at the end.
"Just shu-"
"What happened?" Both the ladies turned around as a confused looking Vedant approached them.
"Nothing." Neesha mumbled as the concierge attendant came and started picking up her belongings on the ground.
"Ved?" The lady nearly screamed again and jumped at Vedant's arms, leaving a shocked Neesha whose eyes and mouth were as wide as soccer balls.
"Oh my god! I didn't ever thought I would meet you." She said getting out of his arms as Neesha threw the things she had in her hand inside her bag and stood beside her husband.
"Nice to meet you too Addison." Neesha's shocked gaze went to Vedant who said.
The bellboy picked up all the items and handed over her bag to Neesha, who was busy looking at both the human creature in front of her who were talking like some long lost friends.
"You know her?" She eyed the blonde.
"Yeah. She was my sister's batchmate." Vedant said, a different emotion swirling in his eyes.
"Vanya's batchmate?"
"No. I was Vidya's bestfriend." The red haired answered her question as a frown and confused look took over her face as she heard a new name.
"Vidya?" She asked again feeling out of their conversation.
She felt as if they knew everything about each other and she, being his wife, knew nothing. She surely wasn't a really good welcome.
"Oh sweetie, you might be his girlfriend. Actually only a few and closed people know about Ved's other sister." This time too, Addison answered but what pained was that Vedant was silent.
She didn't care if she was any of his ex girlfriends or past hook ups, but she had the right to know about his sister. Yet he didn't tell her anything.
"I am his wife, first of all. And I would like to leave now, I am getting jet lagged." Neesha gritted, tears forming in her eyes, at her desperation.
She wanted Vedant to speak something but he wasn't. She got to know about his husband's sister through a stranger who seemed even more close to him than her.
And slowly she felt her old self comin back. She felt as if she was loosing herself and opening up to Vedant which she didn't want. She don't want to become the same old Neesha who was too gullible. She didn't want to get heart broken again. Because she has started to realize, she is falling for her husband.
"Oh! You didn't invite me to your wedding Vedant. I would have loved to meet your sister." Addison chirped ignoring Neesha.
Feeling her anger bubbling inside her, she turned away and strode out to the blue Audi, ignoring Vedant's calls. Opening the door, she sat beside the driver's seat and slammed the door shut, nearing making the guy who was keeping their luggage in the trunk.
Within the next five minutes Vedant joined her in the driver's seat and the car speed off in the busy streets of Chicago, but in deadly silence. Another confused look took over Neesha's face as Vedant drove through the roads of Chicago like he knew it by heart.
They stopped in front of a portuguese house, right behind the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
"Neesha, wait!" She stopped, as she was about to open the door and come out.
She turned around and looked at him as he took her hand into his. She gasped as a lone tear escaped from his eyes.
"Neesha, Vidya is the part of my past. I will surely tell you about it, but when the right time comes. I promise." He whispered shakily, as Neesha nodded frantically, not being able to see the sight.
"Let's go and discover the first page of my past." He said, coming out of his seat and and moved to hers, opening the door for her.
She let go of the topic and let out a smile following him.
He knocked the door, a boy looking much like Indians, in his thirties opening the door. As soon as she got inside, the aroma of homemade food filled in her nose. Inside there was a lean lobby, with wooden stairs going up. Just behind the stairs was a wall length door, opening to the garden behind the house. Towards the left was a open drawing hall with a cozy wooden fire place and towards the right was a door, probably the kitchen and dining.
In the walls, there were various different types of paintings, one catching her eyes. It was of a family. A man was seated in a chair with a girl hovering him and smiling towards to the front. A boy was kneeling down, beside the chair with a little girl in his arms. They both smiled towards the front as a small photo frame was situated in the girl's arms.
As her eyes drifted from the painting, it moved to Vedant who was looking towards the same painting.
Then she looked at the painting beside it, in which the same boy was hugging the little girl tightly and placing a kiss in her forehead, and the girl giggling.
A clear of throat made both of them snap as they looked at the boy who opened the door. Neesha turned around as she heard the sounds of anklets. A lady in her late 50s appeared from the kitchen. Shock was evident in Neesha's face as she looked at the lady who was wearing a simple cotton saree. She was Indian.
Following her, came a man in his early 60s, with two plates in his hands.
The lady gave her a warm smile, the one which Neesha craved for since her childhood.
"Vedant baba, kitni sundar hai aapki patni. (Vedant your wife is so beautiful)" She exclaimed coming forward and caressing her face with her crinkled hands.
Neesha's heart tightened as tears pooled in her eyes at her motherly touch. She bend forward and touched her feet.
"Sanskar bhi kitne ache hai.(Her morals are so good too)" She said, looking back at her husband.
Surprisingly her husband didn't look Indian from any angle.
"Let's talk over the lunch? I have already set the table. Come." Her husband said as he wiped his sweat beads in the apron.
"Let's go." Vedant said and Neesha nodded.
At the table she got to know that the lady who's name was Sujata was Vedant, Vanya's caretaken since their childhood. Then she shifted here at the age of 21. Then she married the man, who's name was John, after 5 years and then they had their son who was Jake.
They lived in the house beside theirs and ran a bakery down the streets. As per Vedant said, they also supply food to the canteen of School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
"What do you do?" Neesha asked the boy who was observing her since she came.
"Nalla baitha hai. Koi achi ladki mile India mein toh batana. (Sitting uselessly. If you find a suitable girl for her in India, do tell me)" His mother shrugged as a pout appeared in the face of the man.
"Ma, I am a detective. When will you learn to respect my work?" He grumbled.
"Jab tu koi kaam karega.(When you'll start working.)" She gave a savage Indian mom type reply.
After the snacks, the family left after telling Neesha to heat the food Sujata made for dinner and eat it quickly. Neesha went to the garden as her phone rang, flashing Vanya's name.
"Hello, Neesha? I told you to tell me when you reach. Why didn't you call me? And Aadith is also calling you. Why aren't you picking up his calls? Did you guys reach safely?" Vanya fired as soon as she picked up.
"Vanya calm down. We reached safely and Vedant is outside with John and his family. And I will call Aadith after you, don't worry." Neesha answered, unknowingly her mind swirling to Vidya.
"Okay. You guys rest now and enjoy your honeymoon. I'll call you later." Vanya said.
"Wait! Who is Vidya?" Neesha stopped her and asked.
Her mind became even more suspicious as she heard a small gasp from her mouth.
"That's not my place to tell you, Neesha. Vedant will do, when he feels the right time." She said and disconnected.
She glanced at the phone and then her eyes went to the painting.
Who is Vidya?
*
It was the tenth day of their honeymoon. Till now, Neesha have completely forgotten about Vidya yet a small part of her mind was still on her. These ten days were a bliss for both of them. They spent as much time as they could.
Neesha has discovered the whole house and that's when she found a room upstairs which was locked. When she asked for the key to Sujata, she said she doesn't have.
Coming back to their honeymoon, they have been roaming all around Chicago, enjoying it's culture and heritage since ten days. However they were provided by their three meals by Sujata everyday, so they were not eating food outside.
Today unfortunately they had to cancel their plan of visiting the Illinois Centennial Monument as both of them had some urgent meetings.
Vedant was gone for his meeting while Neesha was sitting in the nearest cafe waiting for a certain one.
A few days ago, she got a call from Addison. Ignoring how creepily she stalked her and got her number, she answered it.
"I want to meet you. Alone. In the cafe near the house you are staying. On Thursday. Don't tell Vedant."
These were her exact words and right after saying this, she disconnected.
Neesha wanted to tell Vedant but she didn't due to some reasons, which she couldn't potray. And that is why, here she was seated, waiting for her.
A sound of clicking heels, made her look at the entrance and there she saw her. Dressed in another skimpy dress, she made her way to her as her eyes found her.
Neesha rolled his eyes, as the guy sitting in a table turned around and fixed his eyes in her hips as she swayed them. She stood up as Addison approached her.
As they sat, Addison took out a envelope and kept it in the table. Neesha didn't pay much attention to it as she looked at the red haired in front of her.
"What did you want to talk?" Neesha asked leaning back in the chair.
"Should we order something? Coffee?" Addison said, about to call the waiter.
"I don't have time for those. Come straight to the point." Neesha announced.
Addison's bitchy face was gone as a concerned one took over. She scooted over beside Neesha and rubbed her shoulders sympathetically.
"Neesha, I am not bad. I just wanted you to know the truth. Vedant is not good for you. I am saying this as your younger sister." She started.
"A few days ago he came to my house. I was surprised but I let him. Not going to lie here, I really liked him. But it was in the past. Now I know he has a beautiful wife. But then he suddenly started getting close to me and I swear I didn't knew when we started kissing. I don't want to be the bad one here, that's why I am telling this to you. After that, w-we made out. I tried stopping him, but you know I am so small against him, I couldn't. I reminded him about you too, but he said that he is married to you just for your business. I am really sorry Neesha. I didn't want to do this, but I couldn't stop him." A few drops of tear escaped from her eyes and Neesha felt her heart slowly coming out. She sat straight.
"I don't know you would believe me or not. So I brought some proof. Don't worry, I will go away from your lives and I won't complain to police too." She handed the envelope to her, who tried to be brave but her hands shook unknowingly.
As she opened the envelope, there were some photos. One was where Vedant was kissing her and the others of their make out. Neesha clutched the pictures in her hands and she abruptly stood up and got out of the cafe.
She walked to her house, her heart beating heavily. She wanted to believe him, firstly because she has fallen for him and then because she knew he wouldn't do anything like that. Atleast that is was they gained in these days. But then she was a women.
She reached the house in less than 10 minutes and saw Vedant's car and the door open. She went inside, her body feeling lifeless.
"Neesha? Where were you? Come I made dinner for both of us, to make up for this cancelation of out trip. See whether salt is okay or not." She heard Vedant's voice from the kitchen as soon as she shut the door.
Her eyes drifted up, thinking about the time they spent in these days. That's when her eyes found the painting where a boy was kissing a girl. She found it quite familiar.
Hurryingly opening the envelope, she saw the picture where Vedant was kissing Addison or so as she said. Her eyes drifted from the painting to picture and back and forth.
Fury built in her eyes, as she looked at both the pictures.
The hairstyle, way the boy's body was, everything was same, fully same.
Her body started shaking, from guilt and rage, both as she took out her phone from her bag.
"Hello?" She heard Jake answer.
"I need your help Jake." She said, her voice determined.
