Chapter 2
Once Marinette and her grandfather returned to the palace after the tragic accident, Marinette was shown to her quarters by the guards, once inside two guards stood guard at her door and another two stood guard on her balcony, Marinette was told to stay away from her windows, that food would be brought to her and that her grandfather was on his way to the senate.
Once Marinette was alone in her quarters the first thing she did was run to her bedroom, take off her golden laurel wreath off and lay on her bed, crying. After a few minutes of crying Marinette rolled onto her back and stared at her ceiling.
The Senate of the Roman Empire would discuss what would happen now, the reason why her grandfather would be with them would be that he was the only one left to be her guardian. Even though the Senate was in a meeting to discuss what would happen now, Marinette already knew what would happen, The Senate would rule the country until she was of age to take the responsibility of being Empress once she turned 18.
Marinette would most likely go to live with her grandfather back in Asia, where he could keep an eye on her.
After a few hours of lying on her bed, she heard a faint knock on the door to her living area in the next room.
"Your Highness, I bring dinner" the voice of one of the palace servants called.
Marinette slowly got off her bed and walked to her door, as she opened it she was greeted by two female servants food in their hands. Marinette stepped to the side and let the two carry the food inside, the two then placed the food on a small dining table with only two chairs, they then bowed before exiting the room again.
Marinette sat at one of the chairs, a bowl of her favorite soup stood in front of her, she had no doubt that her grandfather had told them to give her this. Even with one of the most delicious dishes in the world in front of her, Marinette had no appetite at all, but she figured she would need to eat.
As Marinette sat, eating small spoonfuls of soup another knock came from the door.
"Enter" Marinette said.
The door opened and her grandfather entered, he walked over to her and sat on the chair in front of her.
"Hello my child" he said, looking at her with caring eyes "I just came out from the Senates meeting."
"Will I be coming with you back to Asia Grandfather?" Marinette asked looking up at him, her eyes red from crying.
"No my child" a sad smile was on his lips "the Senate thought it best that you lay low until your crowning in Asia, I agree with them."
"Will I be staying here at the place then?"
"No Marinette, we thought it would be best if you went away from Rome a bit" Fu reached out and groom her hand "we decided that you shall go to Paris, where your family has a mansion that no one knows belongs to the Imperial family, you will be attending school, we have already made a cover for you."
"But grandfather..." Marinette tried to complain.
"The Senate has made their decision Marinette, you might be Crown Princess but right now they are in charge" Fu pulled a small black box out of his pocket and put it in front of Marinette "you'll be leaving tonight, so I thought I'd give you my birthday present now."
Marinette slowly picked up the box and opened it, inside was a pair of white earrings. They looked ancient, but not a scratch could be seen on them.
"These earrings have been in our family for as long as anyone can remember" Fu had a small glimpse of pride in his eyes "the last person to wear them was your grandmother, my wife."
Marinette practically shot up from her chair, to the other side of the table to hug her grandfather "thank you" she whispered.
"Your welcome my child" Fu said as she released him from the hug, he then grabbed her shoulders "promise me that you will take good care of them, never let anyone else wear them my child, promise that to me."
"I promise grandfather, I promise" Marinette said, earning a smile from her grandfather.
"Now, you must pack your things, but only some of your royal dresses, cloth will be provided for you" Fu gave her another smile "and remember your new crown."
"Of course grandfather" Marinette said, returning his smile. Fu then left her to pack her belongings, wishing her a good flight and telling her that she had around three hours before she would be picked up and driven to a private airport outside of Rome.
After around two and a half hour of packing, she had managed to fill three trunks with many of her things and two suitcases with some of her cloth. A knock on the door told her that she had to go, the door opened and four butlers walked in to collect her luggage, she picked up her hat and put it on, along with the veil and followed then down to the staff entrance where a small black car awaited her, and no escort.
The car trip out of Rome was slow and steady, police were everywhere, obviously searching for whoever had murdered her parents.
Once they arrived at the private airport she was greeted by a gray-haired man who introduced himself as Angus, her new bodyguard, once her luggage was loaded the two boarded the small plane, along with the captain and set course for Paris.
The fly was fast and not exactly eventful, they landed on another small private airfield outside of Paris and Marinette were quickly placed in a new car and driven to the mansion her grandfather had told her about.
Once Marinette arrived she was meet by more butlers, they picked up her luggage and showed her to her room, once Marinette was finally left alone she changed to her night dress and collapsed on top of the bed.
