PROLOGUE
It all started when I was born.
No surprises there. Dad made it his mission to remind me of my 'importance' constantly.
When I was a kid, I saw everything through rose tinted glasses. What did I saw? A dad who never let his wife and daughter out of his sight; a mom, who was always on her feet to cater to the needs of her husband. My eyes captured the picture of a perfect family that was in front of it, but my mind failed to comprehend the emotions that were at work underneath.
It was much later that I realised how this perfection was a mere mirage: an illusion of a safe haven that kept the ideal intact within the confines of my mind. Thus, when one day I saw a red welt mark on mom's cheek I didn't think much of it. Mom told me it was an accident and I believed her.
The veils of ignorance stay closed only till we want them to. In my case, they lifted too soon. As I am writing this, a similar welt adorns my forearms, which I know for a fact is not the product of any accident.
Knowledge of the truth, though, does not always translate into acting upon it.

A/n: The book will be in a combination of letters, third person narratives and interludes in between.
In other words, this is a story told from multiple perspectives.
