Chapter 17- A fight to Remember

I looked at the man in my arms. I dropped a gentle kiss on his forehead and he smiled up at me.  "Thranduil." I drug my fingers through his hair. "Tell me about Thorin." I looked down at his face. He smiled and captured my hands.

"My darling." He looked at my eyes. His beautiful blues searched mine. His pale golden hair lay around my lap and his large torso extended from where he was laying. "You know this story pains me."

"Thranduil, love, you need to tell someone." I lovingly stroked his chin. "I want to know."

"Alright." He sighed. "It began when the dwarves showed themselves in our woods." He settled against my thighs. "Thorin Oakenshield and his band of Dwarves were captured by Legolas, and our Elleth General." He sighed. "Legolas was quite taken with her, but I knew that Legolas needed only the best. He would never settle for anything lower." His gaze escaped from mine. "And I was unhappy that he would not wait for me to approve. Anyways. Thorin came and we imprisoned them, I offered him a deal, and he proceeded to insult me." He snorted. "I sent him back, but I did not know of the young master Baggins." He shook his head. "He was fast, and he had the ring of power on his side."

"Yes, Bilbo was always a lovely hobbit."

"That he was, after I got over my anger about him helping the Dwarves escape." He smiled. I smiled too. "I sent Legolas after them and then he returned with an orc and I killed him." His smile faltered. "I was worried for you." He whispered.

I touched his face. "You had nothing to worry for. I was perfectly fine with the Lady of Light." I groaned as he shot me an angry look. "Don't give me that look."

"As I was saying." He huffed playfully. "I went to get my white gems from the mountain. I met Gandalf and was stayed by Bard the bow man. I wanted to fight for my gems, but by the time that Bard had attempted to talk some sense in Thorin, his cousin Dane came to rescue them. We engaged in fighting and then the Orcs came forth. Legolas was caught up with Bolg, Azog's son, I was busy with my entire army." He looked down. "I lost many warriors that day. And I lost Moose."

I wiped the tear from his eyes. The pure pain that he was presenting to me, it was unheard of. I was under his spell. I could not feel happier. He looked at me from my lap and he wiped the tear from my eye. "Please, continue my love." I pleaded.

He swallowed. "I continued to fight. Casualties were too great, so I called for a retreat. This was not supposed to be our war." His beautiful face was pulled back in a grimace. "Tauriel would not allow me to leave, and, I-I- nearly killed her. Our son had to stop me." He looked back at me. "I went back into battle, with Legolas at my side. He was upset." His eyes were shadowed with pain. "I had hurt him."

"You did what you believed to be right." I brushed his hair back. "Plus, I would not have approved." I smirked as he grinned. "You and I are a team."

"That we are my love." He smiled. "That we are." His face clouded again. "When i found Legolas, he was standing with Tauriel. And She was bent over a dwarve. He was dead." His eyes were heavy. "Legolas, he left. Tauriel went to die. And I made my way home."

"Thranduil, you can not blame yourself." I kissed his hands. "You were doing the best thing for your son."

"I know." He nodded. "But he didn't see it that way."

"I wish I would have been home."

"Well you are now."

"I am." I smiled.

"And you aren't leaving are you?"

"Not for a good long while."

Thranduil sat up quickly. 'I believe you mean never." He captured my face in his hands. "I can not lose you again."

"And you won't." I smiled and pressed a kiss to his mouth. "I am not going anywhere."

He smiled and leaned into me. "Alavara, I love y-"

"My king!" a Guard yelled and Thraduil sat up. "Duck!"
