ANUSHKA

"So that was something!" Rumaan exclaimed as soon as Anushka stood beside him in the parking lot.

She smiled at him, then looked down, thinking of all the possible things she could have said or asked about that kiss.

How was it?

Did you feel as awkward as I did?

Did you feel as comfortable as I did?

Why did my heart beat so fast?

Was it because I was scared? Or was it because of something else?

He was still staring at her, waiting for her to respond. With a shake of her Head, Anushka chuckled.

"Well, what can I say?" She replied. He stared at her long lashes coated with mascara and her spotless skin. She was the epitome of a perfect woman. Her curves, her eyes, her face, her legs, it was all too perfect.

He thought Virat was an idiot, for staying with a woman like her and then leaving her all alone wasn't anything less than stupid. He then thought atleast the man had the guts to leave a woman just so he could do right by his own woman.

"Won't your father be mad when he knows what stunt you pulled at the party?" Rumaan questioned the one thing that had been bugging him.

"I don't think anyone has the guts to inform him." She shot back coyly making him chuckle again.

"You're mad." He commented, laughing as both of them moved forward and walked closer to his car.

"Anyway, come on, let me drop you home." He told her, she nodded and sat on the front seat.

He started to drive and Anushka went deep into her own thoughts. She glanced at him once, then started to speak.

"You do realise dad's gonna ask me what I think of you as soon as I enter home, right?" She asked in a sass filled tone.

"You do realise that it is your problem, right?" Rumaan shot back in the same tone.

She smirked.

"Shutup. Seriously, tell me what to say!" She asked.

She had felt at such peace ever since she had told him everything.

It felt like she could trust him.

He understood all that she had to say and all that she couldn't.

He was different, mature, humble.

She hadn't met a man like him. A man so observing and a man so unegoistic.

He turned the car around as it neared the Sharma mansion and then saw Anushka biting her lip in concentration.

"Tell him you can't decide anything so soon and you need time." He stated, trying to stop her from thinking about it anymore.

"And if he enquires for more?" She questioned.

"You can make up a good lie, can't you?" He interrogated.

She nodded.

Lying was an art. Like drama, like acting. She had gotten good at it. Heck, she had been good at it ever since she was a child.

"Yeah, I sure can. See you then?" She said as the car parked in front of the house.

"Mhmm, see you, Anushka."

As she got out of the car, she threw him one last look.

"Nush, call me Nush."

With that, she was gone. But this time, she had a ray of hope in her heart.

Hope that she was going to be okay.

****

The next morning arrived with him dressed in his business attire, he was sat in front of the huge desk while the business tycon, owner of Sharma enterprises, hotels and resorts, Sharna industries gave him a keen curious look.

For the world, he was one of the richest men in India, for him, he was the man who helped his family in the toughest of days, the man he was obliged to help in any manner that he could.

Anushka's dad signed away another file as Rumaan drank his cup of coffee.

"Is my daughter still hung up on that man?" He questioned still signing away.

"Yes, but I'm trying my hardest." He responded.

"Good, and what about the hotel? Are things getting along well?" He enquired.

"Yeah, almost. We can launch it in a month or so." Rumaan answered coincidently.

Finally, the slightly balding man looked up and paid his full attention to Rumaan.

"You have been so helpful, Rumaan. Honestly. Whether its personal issues or business ones." His tone was humble, grateful.

Rumaan gave a polite nod.

"It's my duty, after all that you have done for my dad before he left the world."

"Still, thanks." He thanked him, Rumaan didn't think that he even deserved a thanks from the man.

He took another sip of the coffee before questioning Rakesh Sharma.

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but what happens when she finds out that, well..I'm not really interested and you just wanted her to get distracted for a few days?" He questioned..

Yes, it was true.

Rumaan was not in the slighest bit interested in Anushka. Infact, he had been lying so much, just so she could relate to him.

It all started when her father heard her crying one day, questioning herself why she was not good enough. He approached Rumaan, asking him to dig deeper and give him all the necessary information while guiding his only daughter towards a better future.

A future that could make his company reach an even higher potential.

"I don't know. What I did know was that my daughter was sad and I wanted her to be happy." Anushka's father replied.

Rumaan laughed.

"Or you just wanted to know what's going on in her damn life!" He stated.

"Partially, Yes." Her father agreed.

"You know, I'm no one to speak but your daughter got betrayed once and she is going to be even more devastated when she finds out I'm not the man she thinks I am." He explained.

"She's getting attached to me and it will hurt her." He continued.

Her father laughed.

"Anushka doesn't get attached to people. She uses them and throws them. You don't know her like I do, Rumaan." Her father defended.

Rumaan chuckled.

"Anushka might not get attached to people but Nush does. Seems like you don't know your daughter after all."

He was about to walk out after those words, but he heard one last sentence to which he had to respond.

"Tell your boyfriend I said hello."

"I will."
