16. Fake promises

Y'all better comment. I'm sad :( 😂

--

"Hi stranger." Anushka murmured as Virat entered the the hotel room. A small sigh escaping his lips as he placed his laptop on one table and the car keys on another.

He was dressed in another one of his black suit, a grey tie loosely tied around his neck. While Virat seemed tired and sleepy, Anushka looked as fresh as a daisy.

She was dressed in a tommy hilfiger sweater top and her favourite jeans of the same brand. She had worn some valentino shoes on her way and hadn't even bothered applying any makeup since Virat removed it anyway.

She had been wearing jeans alot lately, Virat preffered her wearing dresses.

"Stranger haan? Weren't you under me like yesterday?" Virat pondered making Anushka chuckle and come closer.

"Under you?" She whispered.

"Yeah..and behind you, on you, in you." He said back, kissing her jaw. Anushka held his shirt allowing him to caress her face.

"Hmm, doesn't ring a bell." She mumbled again, looking at Virat as he placed delicate kisses all over her neck.

Virat looked up at her this time.

"Should I remind you again?" He questioned. She smirked.

"Maybe.." She shot back making him laugh.

"You're like a little tiger ready to pounce everytime I talk about sex." He stated. She moved back, sitting on the couch and glancing at Virat as he sat beside her.

He was right.

There were a few things that Anushka was very proud of.

Her fashion sense, her body and her sexuality. She wasn't one of those girls who would blush every time a guy would kiss her. That was another thing that made her too different from Sonam.

Sonam was a shy, religious and kind girl. Anushka was anything but that. Maybe that was the reason why Virat had found this crazy interest in Anushka.

"And you're a lion when it comes to it so don't even start." She warned, responding to his earlier statement.

Virat smiled at her response, "Fair enough. Now, where were we?"
He wasted no time as he moved forward and pressed his lips against her neck again, a breath exhaling her lips as she tried to not indulge in his tender kisses, his hand boldly playing with the hem of her shirt.

"No babe, not right now. I have to go meet with the event planner abhi. I'm busy." Anushka informed him, holding him by the nape of his neck and placing a kiss on the side of his cheek.

When they were like this, she often forgot he wasn't hers to begin with.

"Event planner? For what?" Virat questioned.

"Seriously?" Anushka gasped, standing up in shock making him even more confused than before.

"What? Am I missing something?" He interrogated making her chuckle in disbelief.

"Yes!" Virat passed her another confused look. "God, it's my birthday tomorrow!" She exclaimed.

Virat rolled his eyes internally. It was just a birthday. He never believed in such things. Why celebrate a year less of your life?

"Oh, oh okay. What do you want for your birthday then?" He asked her again, holding her by the waist and bringing her closer.

"Whatever you want, just don't be late, okay." Anushka reminded him as if he had to be at the party.

Wait, no. He didn't, did he?

"Late for what?" He tried to play dumb.

"For the birthday party?" She said expectantly, leaning a little forward..her hips jutted out.

"You want me to come to your birthday party?" Virat questioned her slowly. She nodded as if it was the easiest thing in the world.

"Yes, and I want you to look really good, I mean you always do but get rid of the whole suit look." She rambled.

Virat sighed. How do you say no to someone so pretty?

"Anushka, I can't. I mean, for the world we aren't even close friends and nobody calls their 'ex boss for a month' at their party." He murmured apologetically.

This was not a social gathering, it was a birthday party. Virat knew going there would be something extremely shady and unnatural.

"Virat, I don't care. You have to come." She mouthed loudly. Virat groaned.

"The only way I can come is with Sonam, you want that?"

Anushka looked at him as if he really had the audacity to say that in front of her? Was this really how their conversation was bound to end every time she demanded something?

"Well, then discussion over haan? Thanks Virat."

She was about to slam the door and strom outside, not wanting to make anymore conversation with him but Virat held her arm before she could do any of that.

His strong grip on her arm and a tender look in his eyes as he focused on Anushka.

"Nush, please..Try and be understanding okay." He whispered.

"Understanding? That's all I've been Virat. But it's my birthday. It's only fair that I expect you there." She argued.

Virat didn't want to spoil her mood, neither did he have the heart to do that. So he did the one thing, he had gotten surprisingly good at.

Lie.

"Okay, fine. I'll come." A look of surprise crossed her face as she heard Virat agree. That look turned into a huge smile in a few minutes. "Pakka?" She reaffirmed.

Virat leaned forward then, placing a kiss on her mouth. "Mhmm, pakka. I promise I'll come."

He promised.

But promises were meant to be broken, right?

The food was unbelievably delicious. That, or he was simply starving. The warm yet pleasant aroma of food surrounded the married couple. The steak was plump and full, completely marinated and juicy, the smell of chicken surrounding both of them, the fresh fruit and vegetable salad was placed in front of them along with a variety of other foods.

Sonam moaned in pleasure as she chewed another bite of the steak.

"I'm so glad you brought me for dinner, Virat. It was getting lonely." She ate another bite. Virat nodded.

He swallowed the bite he had taken, then gave his wife another smile.

"Ofcourse, You know i'd have dinner with you everyday if I wasn't so busy."

Sonam tried to say something in understanding when his phone vibrated yet again.

This time, she scowled.

"Who keeps calling you all the freaking time?" She said exasperated. She was tired of all these interruptions

"It's from Office." He murmured.

It wasn't. Even though he had been receiving calls from Office for a very long time, this time it was Anushka.

"Ignore it, na. Acha tell me when are we going to your mother's place. She keeps on calling and I don't know what to say to her." Sonam tried to take the conversation forward,

Virat took another bite of the tender meat dish before looking at her.

"Maa misses me, I know but work has-" Before he could complete his sentence, his phone vibrated yet again, the sudden buzz on the table causing him to frown. "Wait, just a sec-" He picked up the call.

"What?" He barked through the phone. The sudden exclamation causing Sonam to inhale a deep breath.

"Can I not leave you to do anything?" He yelled again.

Someone managed to piss him off really bad. Sonam thought to herself as she played with the salad, not bothering to eat it anymore.

"I gave you what? One thing to do? And you managed to screw it up as well?" He interrogated angrily. His sudden slam on the table jolted Sonam out of her thoughts.

"No! You can't fix this shit, just, you ruined my dinner and you managed to ruin my time with my wife and now you're telling me you'll fix everything?"

He uttered, extremely unhappy as he stood up from his seat, throwing his credit card towards the waiter who quickly swiped it across the machine.

"Say sorry one more time and I'll fire your ass right now." He snapped at the person again and Sonam sighed, she felt extremely sad that she couldn't get an hour with Virat without it getting interrupted.

Virat motioned her to move forward.

"Yes, I'll be there in an hour. Tell Nina to drop it in my office." He finally ended the call.

His gaze travelled to Sonam who looked like a small kitten, lost in her world. Virat cupped her face.

"I'm sorry, I know I told you-" He tried to apologise but got cut off.

"It's okay, you have to go?" Sonam always wanted to make him feel understood. She knew business was important. Who was she to interfere just because she felt needy?

"Mhmm, I'll drop you home." Virat told her. She nodded.

Virat unlocked the car and slid in the front seat, having given off to the driver. Sonam slid in the front seat as well.

He began to drive.

"Okay, acha listen, we have to go to Nandini's anniversary party tomorrow. You know that, right?" Virat glanced at her in confusion.

Who? Huh?

"Nandini who?" He questioned.

"My friend? Sushant's wife?" She whispered making him shrug again.

"Sehgal industries?" Virat asked.

They had faced yet another huge loss and Virat was planning to take over his company soon, maybe going there wasn't such a bad idea.

"Yes, you business freak. Tell me you don't have any plans of your own tomorrow." She hoped. Virat chuckled. "Virat, please. We have to go." She pleaded.

"Fine, we'll go."

He promised, this time he didn't lie.

"Okay, good night. Love you." Sonam kissed his cheek, getting out of the car.

"Love you too, call me if you need anything." He yelled as she turned around again.

"Just you. Come back soon."

"I'll try, night."

With that, he was gone.

He just didn't know that tonight was the calm before the storm.
