Chapter 54: The Resistance

There was a collective gasp.

"Gally?"

"The fuck?" Minho gasped. He had gone white as a ghost.

"No way!" Frypan whispered.

Thomas instantly felt hot. His stomach clenched and he saw red. This shank shot Chuck. Thomas had held the sweet little boy until he bleed out. Thomas still had nightmares, seeing the fear in his innocent young eyes. Before his mind caught up to him, he had slammed his fist into Gally's jaw.

Gally didn't see it coming and dropped. Thomas lept ontop of him, trying to get another punch in. But Gally threw his arms up and blocked the attempt. Thomas's hearing didn't come back until he was being ripped off Gally. Gally scrambled to his feet. Thomas expected him to swing back like he always did. So Thomas threw his fists up, ready to go. But Gally held a hand out to the men with guns.

"No, wait! Hold!" Gally yelled, trying to keep the guys with guns from shooting at them. "Stop! It's all right!"

Newt was holding Thomas back, a hand on his chest, giving him a shove "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Stop! Stop it!"

"He killed Chuck!" Thomas yelled, tears blurring his eyes. He felt another wave of heat, his chest felt tight and his hands clenched.

"Yeah, I know. I remember." Newt said, his hand was still pressed against his chest, keeping him from springing back at Gally.
"I was there too, all right? But I also remember that he was stung and half out of his mind."

Thomas ground his teeth together glaring at the guy. Gally stood tall, rubbing his jaw, but otherwise not doing anything. Someone with messy cury braids had run forwards, a scarf wrapped around her face was fussing over him. Holding his face and whispering something to him. Thomas felt a stab of pain. He needed to get Jina back. This seemed like another obstacle waisting his time.

"Just calm down. All right?" Newt's voice was calm and controlled, and it irritated him. Thomas shoved Newt's hand off with a huff and spun away.

"Kind of had that coming." Gally said with a half hearted chuckle. "Anybody else? Fry? Newt? Minho? Though you got a good shot last time..."

Thomas looked back at him, just as he was rubbing his chest. Thomas remembered the spear sticking through his chest and the way his eyes had faded.

"Again...I can't stress this enough. What the actual FUCK?" Minho said, he was staring at the Gally who now had his arm around the girl with messy curly braids and warm brown eyes under the scarf.

"Do you know this guy?" Jorge asked, pointing at Gally.

"He was an old friend." Frypan answered, his eyes wide and jaw wider.

"How?" Newt asked. "How is this possible? We watched you die."

Gally shook his head, a look of something Thomas couldn't understand passed across his face. "No, you left me to die. And I was picked up, patched up, and been fighting WICKED ever since. Then...we got word from someone inside... And she showed up," Gally nodded his head at the girl who had her arms around Gally's waist.

All the eyes traveled to the girl. She tugged her scarf down. There was instant screaming from the girls and there was a wild dash and then a wild group hug and tears.

Thomas now recognized who it was. Flossie. He should have figured that out. Tim, Vince and Jorge told them only yesterday that she was here. But to be fair, he only met her once about three or four months ago. But it blew his mind that Gally had lived and now his arms were around a girl. Thomas felt a stab of jealousy.

The girls were all crying. Flossie was holding Sonya's bruised face gently. And then turned to Teresa, who was standing on the outside awkwardly watching with longing. Flossie took her hands and pulled her into a tight hug.

"So what's with the wild welcome wagon? The blacked out vans, held at gun point?"

"Ya..." Gally said with a sheepish shrug. "One, Laurence is big on keeping this place a secret. And two, if we hadn't done it that way you'd be dead right now."

"Explain." Yelena demanded.

"WICKED is buying up Munies. Trying to start up the Trials again. So...make it look like a kidnapping, people watching would just see WICKED taking Munies. And not rebels joining a revolution."

There were nods and noises of understanding from the othera.

"What the hell are you doing here? Laurence didn't say who was coming or why. Just to expect a Berg of people."

"Jina." Taylor said. "WICKED has her here."

"We're looking for a way in. And to take them down, once and for all." Jorge added.

"We can help with that." Flossie smiled at the girls.

"Follow us." Gally nodded, and indicated with his head. He held his hand out and Flossie intertwined his fingers with his and started forwards. The group of men and woman with guns split and disappeared.

Thomas felt his stubbornness rise. This guy could hold hands with all the gentle sweet girls he wanted, it didn't take away the fact that he had shot Chuck. He folded his arms and clenched his jaw.

"I'm not going anywhere with you." Thomas knew he sounded like a toddler having a temper tantrum, but at the moment he didn't care.

"Suit yourself. But I can get you through those walls."

Minho ran a hand through his hair, "why are you helping us Gally. I put a spear through your chest!"

Gally glanced over his shoulder at him, with a small shrug and a small smirk, he said dryly, "Ya well...nobody's perfect man."

Minho stopped walking for a second and stared at him. Then looked back at Thomas and walked back over.

"Look, I know...it's a shucked messed situation, but he said he could get us in side the walls. This is for Jina. Remember?"

"Ya...ya I remember." Thomas grumbled. Minho clapped him on the shoulder and they followed after Gally, Flossie and the rest of their group. They were heading up the stairs and Gally was in the middle of explaining.

"...after the maze, I got picked up by a group headed to the city. They realized I was immune, patched me up, and they brought me here to Lawrence. This group's been at war with WICKED ever since they took control of the city. But WICKED can't hide behind those walls forever. Day's gonna come, and they're gonna pay for what they've done."

"Right. Captain David smuggled me out of the facility about a month and a half ago, maybe two months already. It was a full thing, but I showed up, and Gally showed me the ropes, they told me Jina was still inside, we tried setting something up, even got a note to her, but...the guy was apparently caught and executed as a traitor to WICKED. Doctor Mary and Clint have been here working with Doctor Hans on the cure, and they also helped get us in touch with your group, the Right Arm... And now...we can combine forces and take them down."

"We need to get Jina out as soon as possible. They plan on killing her soon." Jill added.

"Well...we can help with that." Gally said. He had led the group to a door and paused. He pushed the door open and led the group into an empty room with a big gapping jagged hole in the floor. There was some kind of metal ladder screwed right into the ground.

"Uhh...what is this?" Yelena asked.

"That was so anticlimactic." Sonya pouted.

"Look, I can only take a few, it's easy to get a small group through." Gally said, nodding towards the hole.

"I'm going." Thomas said immediately.

"Me too." Sonya said with a nod.

"Count me in." Minho said folding his arms with a sharp nod.

"And me." Taylor said

"No more. I'd love to, but this is almost too many." Gally said wearily.

"That Jina's brother, sweetie." Flossie said, her hand on his arm, nodding at Minho, "that's her boyfriend. And those two are sisters."

Gally looked down at Flossie and he seemed to melt. "Green has a girlfriend? When'd that happen?" Gally glanced up at Minho and Thomas who both didn't look impressed at all.

"Gally...I told you about all this."

Gally caved. "Fine."

"Where is your leader, Laurence." Tim asked. "We need to talk. Figure out what's going on."

"Gally will take the group and I'll show you guys around. Laurence will be in his office, and I'll find you Mary and Clint and show you the cafeteria." Flossie said with a nod to Tim. "But...don't get your hopes up with Laurence. Gally and Mary pretty much make the decisions around here."

Thomas scowled at the guy. Gally just looked sheepishly at Flossie. Pulled her closer and kissed her temple. Thomas felt a stab in his heart, the knife was slowly twisting.

< Jina >

Jina was walking down the halls. Her white heels click claked on the white tiled floor. It seemed to echo extra loud around her. Her arms were full of files and papers, she had made it to her room. Pushing the door open she froze. All the files dropped to the floor, scattering all over the place. She let out a strangled cry. Her legs gave out and she collapsed to the floor.

Laying in her bed, tangled in the sheets was Thomas and some beautiful faceless girl. His tongue half way down her through, his hands tangled in her beautiful thick clean hair.

"To-Tommy?" She squeaked. Her chin was already quivering and her eyes burned with tears.

Thomas pulled away and looked over at her crumpled form on the ground with disdain and disgust.

"What...what's going on?" She whispered.

"You think I still love you? You've been locked away in the ward for crazies! You're psycho Jina. You're bat shit crazy and you still think I would love you? Look at yourself. You're short and plan. Nothing special about you, your body is average, your personality is basic. The only thing is your half decent mind in math and science. No Jina. You're off the deep end. And you're just kidding yourself."

"But..." Tears slid down her face.

"Look at yourself!" Thomas screamed, he still had his hands all over the girl in her bed. She was kissing his neck and chest while he screamed at her.

Jina looked down at herself, she was indeed psychotic. She was wrapped in a straight jacket, slamming her head into a white padded wall. She was foaming at the mouth and her eyes were wild and solid black. Her wild hysterical laughter was coming from her foaming mouth.

Her bed with Thomas and the girl were gone. Replaced with a long table of the same whizzened old man with fluffy white hair. There were dozens of them, all dressed in all white. They all sat with pens over paper writing away, observing her. Moving at the same time in unison.

She tried to lunge through the cage bars at them, but she couldn't. She was jerked back landing hard on her back. Her neck was chained to a wall and her arms were still stuck in a straight jacket. All she could do was struggle to her knees and scream, laugh and cry. The table of the same bent old Psyche just watched and wrote notes. Jina struggled. Between the struggling and crying she managed to choke a few words out.

"Please Tommy...Please. Help."

Someone crouched down in front of the bars. His face was blank, his whiskey brown eyes cold and calculating, was Thomas. He was clothed this time, but he crouched in front of her and just watched.

"You're fucked in the head, Jina. You're the actress starring in your own bad dreams. We locked you up and threw away the key. There's no coming back from this...you know this."

She felt an overwhelming pain in her back. It sent a spasm of pain coursing through her body. She collapsed to the ground, withering in pain. Each breath sent a wave of agonizing pain. She choked on the blood that was bubbling up. She couldn't do anything, her arms still stuck in the strait jacket, her neck chained to the wall.

"Please Tommy...help." She whimpered.

"You've been stabbed in the back. There's nothing I can do." He said flatly. There was no inflection in his voice. He didn't move. Just stayed crouched by the bars, his head cocked slightly to the side, watching Jina choke and sputter on her own blood.

"Minho..." She whispered.

"You are the traitor Jina. You did this to us!" Minho screamed.

Jina lifted her eyes and saw Minho being held down by WICKED guards. He struggled and screamed at her.

"You did this to me, Jina! You're a traitor. You could have stopped it, you could have done something!"

A guard slammed the end of his gun into Minho's face, splattering blood onto the white padded floor of her cell. It just added to the pool of blood she was already laying in.

"You fucken traitor! You worked for them! You sent me to the maze. You sent us to our deaths! Aris didn't stab you in the back. You just got what you deserve!"

She watched as a Griever crawled through the bars of her cage. Thomas watched blankly. The Psyches continued to write on their papers in perfect unison, she continued to choke and cough up blood sending waves of pain through her body. She couldn't hold on much longer.

The Griever slowly moved forwards, the tail whipped over its head and opened its claw. It slamed down into Minho and picked him up, holding him limp above the ground. The Griever looked at Jina. And with Stella's sweet voice whispered. "You did this to us. You killed us! You're the traitor. You deserve all of this."

The Griever opened it's mouth, rows of sharp deadly teeth flashed and dropped Minho into its mouth, ripping him apart.

Jina couldn't even scream for her brother. A sob erupted and her eyes slid closed.

Stabbed in the back. Karma; a traitor. Chained like a wild animal. Straight jacket and a padded cell. Observed by faceless Psyches. Unlovable. Being responsible for the deaths of every child who stepped foot in the maze. Going too far into the crazy.

All the things she was terrified of.

Jina's eyes snapped open and she took a wild gasping breath. She coughed a few times, like she really had been choking and drowning on her own blood. She couldn't roll over due to the restraints, so she just lay trembling as tears slid down her face.

"Interesting."

Jina flinched. Someone inside her room was talking. She didn't like it. She didn't remember anyone coming into her room other than her two regular doctors and two regular nurses.

She hadn't seen Captain David of WICKED or the Good Doctor Crawford-Moose since the elevator, and she had no idea if it had been hours or days or weeks between that. Time was irrelevant to her.

"So forcing random fears doesn't get a lot of reactions, but if we play into her own fears, sir, we get much more of a reaction, which than produced more enzyme."

"Yes, I see." Janson snapped.

Jina lay on her metal table bed and shivered and trembled, tears slid down her temple and into her hair.

"Call in B1."

Her doctors and nurses started to remove all the tubes, IVs and monitors from her body. Her cuffs we released and she finally rolled onto her side her back to the room and curled up into a tight ball.

"I said call in B1!" Janson roared.

Jina whimpered. But there was no change.

"Where is he?" Janson hollared.

"Uh sir...we can't locate him. He was outside on his alloted outside time and he hasn't been spotted since."

"What about his chip?" Janson snarled. "Track him!"

"It doesn't appear to be working sir. We keep getting an error."

There was a loud snarl and then her room was silent. Jina curled tighter. She was too tired and sore to get off the hard cold table. She just lay half asleep wishing she could die. She had gotten used to the complete silence again. She was alone. Even the voices were gone- for now. Her mind just too exhausted to conjure them up.

Something shifted behind her. She flinched. The silence in her room changed.  Her door was opened again. The soft passing of feet.

"Jina, my little Raindeer."

"Good Doctor Crawford-Moose..." She whispered.

"That's right."

"Is...is Captain David of WICKED here too?" She whispered so quietly, it was more like a breath she exhaled.

"Yes, Raindeer. He's here too." Doctor Crawford answered. "I'm coming closer to your table. We're here to clean you up, try and get you healthy again."

A moment later Jina felt a gentle warm hand on her shoulder. And then strong arms scooped her up gently and lifted her off the table and she was placed down on the padded floor. Her eyes were too exhausted to open. Her head was shifted and was now resting on something warm and soft. Something steady and rhythmic caught her attention. It was soothing. She released a tight breath she was holding and focused on the sound.

Her mind wandered to a different time... Her head resting on someone's chest, an arm protectively around her. She felt a very different emotion then. Then she felt happy. Safe even.

Her lip quivered. And a few tears leaked over her lashes. "Tommy?" She breathed. "Did you come to save me.."

"Jina...I'm David. Captain David."

"You're not Tommy?" She whimpered.

"No, I'm sorry kid...but hold on. Okay? Just hold on a bit longer." David whispered. "Please. A couple more hours."

She felt something pinch in her shoulder. "What was that?" She cried, suddenly panicking. She couldn't handle another round of fear hallucinations. The voices would be back. And she didn't have the strength anymore to fight.

"Shh. Raindeer, it's just antibiotics, and pain meds." Doctor Crawford soothed.

"It will give you a boost of energy for later." Captain David whispered under his breath, it was so quiet Jina hardly heard it.

"What?" Jina's broken mind was having trouble keeping up.

"Shhh. Precious, we's understands."
"No...you don't...your too stupid, dumb dumb."
"We are broken and unlovable. We should stay in this cell and die."

"Jina, My Raindeer, that is not true." Doctor Crawford said firmly. "Just hold on. Just a little longer."

"Good Doctor Crawford-Moose can be trusted..."
"We trust no one, Precious... We is...is falling...we has been drugged..."

Jina's mind slid into darkness. Her head flopped and her eyes slid closed. David closed his eyes for a second and then slowly exhaled.

"She can't hold on much longer, Diana. She's dying."

"I know. Just a few more hours. They're here."

"I know..."

David looked sadly at the girl he gently lay down. Her breathing was shallow and ragged. She was nothing but skin and bones. Her heart was struggling as bad as her mind. To live in such a high state of fear for this long was unhealthy for anyone. The mental and physical tole on her made him sick. She was holding on better than he expected, but still. She should have been out months ago.

He knew they had to leave her cell, it would raise suspicion if they lingered. A few more hours. Then he would never have to set foot in this godforsaken building again.

If they could pull this off.

So far...no one suspected him of getting the boy out and to the Resistance. Now it was Jina's turn.

They just needed a few more hours.
