Set Fire to the Sky (Tam) | Part Two |

Tam pulled on his mask, the old one from Exilium. He watched his sister do the same.

It was a sick nostalgia they never wanted to remember. The experience wasn't terrible. It was the shame their parents felt for them.

Sophie walked over and smiled at the twins as she pulled on her own moonlark feathered mask. "Thanks for coming, you guys. You can welcome the guests for the first 10 minutes, then come enjoy yourselves."She said lowly, retreating to Fitz's side in her stunning black dress.

Tam gave an anxious grunt and walked to the opened doors of the building. Linh examined her brother's tensed figure. She frowned, her deep blue eyes icing over as she reached up and massaged his shoulder with a soft kind hand.

He never hid anything from his sister. Linh knew about the Pyrokinetic Tam had encountered.

"It's okay. She'll be here...and if she tries anything, we'll take her down."Linh reassured. It didn't make him feel any better.

Tam didn't quite understand why he felt this way. Why he didn't have the heart to turn you into the Council and cause one less problem for Sophie. You were very appealing to him. A Pyrokinetic and a Shade. Two of the most misunderstood talents out there. He didn't like to be seen as a monster. And he figured you were the same.

  You were not.

You wanted to be seen as the monstrous rebirth of the perspectives of the elf race. To be what your mentor raised you to be. There was no hesitation in your bones. There was no fear left inside.

Tam's POV (Aw shit man, these POVs only showed up in my first oneshot-)

It had been about an hour into the dance. Almost everyone was here. Everyone but [YN] of course.

I had seen her plans when I read her shadowvapor. An apprentice of Fintan. It would be reassuring to know that shadowvapor had a sense of humor.

She was stunning when I first saw her. Her glossy [ST] skin. Her bright [YEC] eyes that complimented her [YHL] [YHC] locks. A smile that feigned innocence.

I was unsure whether she was going to come or not. I only hoped so.

Light suddenly peered into the room, I immediately pulled the shadows to cover my eyes from the brightness. I looked to the open doors.

A short/tall girl stood there in a red dress with layers colored like fire. A single strap around her left shoulder. Her hair had a balefire colored hairpin. She wore her beautiful smile, the best accessory of them all. I wasn't ashamed of my emotions. My sister glanced over at me, a cocked brow on her porcelain face."Is that her?"She questioned.

"A woman of such exotic grand taste is the one I speak of. Tell me Linh, does she appear as exquisite as I describe?"I murmured, my eyes hinting admiration.

Linh chuckled, the back of her slim hand grazing my cheek gently."Yes brother. Remember, if she tries anything..."Her expression fell grim.

I was amazed that she would let me go to [YN] and not follow. Linh was insecure around others about herself and her Talent. She saw herself as unstable, unpredictable, a hazard. And she would keep herself boxed in however she saw fit. Mostly by staying at my side. My sister had always been my first priority. And she always would be.

She left, most likely to comfort herself with the presence of Sophie or Biana.

I walked forward, remaining oddly inconspicuous. I greeted [YN] as any other guest. I took her invitation. Shook her hand, and complimented her outfit.

I stretched my shadow over, which was convenient, as the ballroom was very dimly lit. The only light was the balefire torches that evenly lay on each wall and pillar.

"Hello Lady [YN]..I did not suspect you would be one to fancy grand parties such as these."I whispered, a smirk on my face, visible on the other half of my mask.

She chuckled, wearing a mask that simply covered her eyes and nothing more. Yet I could spot a twinkle in her [YEC] eyes.

"Well I am. Now I'm going to..mingle with the majority."She replied curtly, taking her leave rapidly.

I grabbed her wrist gently in haste. She looked back at me in shock. I stared down at my hand which grasped her arm. I felt a tingling burning sensation where I held. Her skin was on fire. I let go and watched her walk away.

Taking advantage of the shadows that shrouded the dimly lit ballroom, I cloaked myself in the darkness. Following her. The farther she went, the more concerned I became. And noticed more details on her delicate body.

[YN] had a burn on her shoulder. And her earrings were moonlarks. The very tips of her [YHL] [YHC] hair looked like they had been burnt, and consistently. She fidgeted from time to time, as if paranoid. I ended up following her into a long corridor. She snapped her fingers, until a fire lit.

I didn't know how many times I prayed that the shadowvapor reading had been wrong. I didn't want her to be what she was. She shouldn't be this. I wanted to be able to hold her in my arms, not afraid someone would come and take her away. Or that she would burn an entire city down. Because she was "raised" to do it, like Keefe had been fooled to think.

I wanted her. I wanted her to love me.

She lowered her hand to the curtains that covered a window in the hallway. I felt tears stream down my face. Watching the flames flicker and flow towards the fabrics. I didn't notice until the flames died away that I was running towards her.

  "Tam?"Her voice cracked.

I tackled her to the ground, pinning her hands beside her head. I didn't care if she was boiling hot. And if my hands were being burnt insanely. I didn't want her to do this. "Please don't [YN]..."I cried.

When my tears fell on her cheeks, they turned into steam immediately. She gave an innocent smile."What are you talking about?"She laughed nervously. Averting her gorgeous [YEC] hues. I squeezed my eyes shut and my grip on her wrists tightened in frustration.

"I saw it! Did you even know what I meant when I asked to read you the other day?"I snapped. She shook her head, showing a hint of fear.

"I read your shadowvapor. I saw your dark potential..I knew you were going to burn down the school. I know you're a Pyrokinetic. I don't want to know why.."I lowered my head, pressing it to hers.

[YN] hesitated a little. Confused. Rather amazed."I-Isn't my skin burning you?"She stuttered. I nodded curtly."But I don't care. I'd give anything to be this close to you."

She stared me straight in the eyes. I froze up. She leaned up and captured my lips in her. The inside of her mouth was even worse than her skin. Her delicious tongue scorched my own. But I still didn't care. I let go of her wrists and held her face in my hands. [YN] didn't pull away. She didn't shove me. I felt her body temperature lower as she bit my bottom lip gently.

We parted and I gazed into her eyes."Don't.."I begged. Tears filled her own eyes.

"I must. They have to pay.."

She threw me off, and ran back into the ballroom."NO!"I screamed.

"For FINTAN!"She howled. I heard a loud crash and I ran in after her.

  She had called down Everblaze.

Sophie and Fitz ran out to fetch frissyn, I assumed. Her mask went flying off her face, fire going insane in the palms of her hands. Linh ran forward, gathering the moisture in the air to create a giant water ball in her own hands. Dex rushed everyone back away from [YN] and Linh.

I knew Linh couldn't control this on her own. Her eyes were strained and she began to shiver and shudder.

[YN] expelled one of the balls of Everblaze, switching it out for balefire. She smiled a little."You're the girl who tried to wipe out Fintan..You'll pay. You'll all PAY!"

She threw the balefire at Linh. Without second thought, I ran and threw myself in front of my twin sister. "TAM!"

Third POV

When Tam was hit by the balefire, Linh dropped all of the water on her brother. [YN]'s eyes went wide, realizing what was happening. What she had caused. Her [ST] skin felt like it was on fire. Her [YEC] eyes laced with pain. Running to Tam's side. He wasn't badly burnt. But she still regretted it.

Tam's eyes pried open. Looking to [YN].

  "I forgive you."
