Blind Date (Dex)

I know you guys hate me, and I hate inserting myself. Because...raise your hand if your entire library is nothing but X Readers. Nobody? Exactly.

Think of them as around the age group of seniors.
---

My hands nervously gripped the steering wheel as we came to a red light. I was donned in a [FC] silk dress that hugged my curves and let loose at my waistband. My [YHC] hair was held up by a hummingbird pin that my friend, who was sitting on her phone next to me, gifted me for my birthday.

"Nervous?"She hummed, her brown eyes examining the sweat forming on the wheel and the whiting of my knuckles.

I nodded."Calm down. Keefe knows the guy. It's not like I'd set you up with some pedophile or sex offender."

I huffed."Cami, it's not that. I mean, your boyfriend is an elf. That means his friend is an elf. And you told me elves are naturally attractive. What if he doesn't like me because I'm not good looking? Or because I'm a human?"

She shrugged silently. She wasn't one to comfort others, since she had her own sense of insecurity. I needed to calm down and fast.

The light turned green and I accelerated.

I grabbed my iPod and plugged it into the AUX chord of my radio. I put on Sarcasm by Get Scared in Nightcore. The minute the first few words had been said, Cami pulled out the iPod from the AUX chord and tossed the electronic out the window.

  I stared at her incredulously.

"One, I fucking hate Nightcore. You had that coming. Two, I'll just buy you a phone. And three..that used to be my favorite song. Now?"

She pulled out my iPod Shuffle that was in my glove compartment. Cami then pulled out a small bottle of AXE. Why she had it, I have no idea. She then pulled out a lighter. She lit my iPod Shuffle on fire, then casually tossed it out the window as well.

I stared forward, watching the road as we drove."You're very helpful."

"Don't worry, I'll give you a blow job when we get home to feel better."

  "I don't have a dick."

  "Are we sure-"

I smacked her arm and she burst into fits of laughter. We pulled into the restaurant, seeing Keefe at the front waiting for us. I didn't see anyone accompanying him. My lips curled into a frown and I massaged my [YHC] locks.

"Heyo!"She chirped. She gave him a peck on the lips and he tried to deepen it. But she mussed his hair up in order to pull away. Keefe pulled away and cried in despair.

I smiled nervously, silently enjoying the playful display between the two lovebirds. Keefe looked over at me and I finally noticed what the elf looked like.

His ears had small points, beginning to sharpen. Must've meant he was sorta old. Or getting near there. He had perfectly styled blonde hair, down to the last tip. But it was ruined now, of course. His eyes were a stunning ice blue, glittering and full of life when he looked down at the tan girl. His skin was fairly white, not pale but fair. His smile was wide and gorgeous.

Cami was right, elves were natural models. He seemed all pure, no plastic surgery.

I wondered how Cami managed to snag him. Not as an insult. But because I'd need tips.

A flash of light went off before Keefe could ask me my name.

"Sorry I'm late! Rex, Bex, and Lex were holding me down for something, I don't know."A rich voice ripped through the silence.

A boy emerged from the light like an angel descending from the heavens.

His strawberry blonde hair was wild, not kept like Keefe's, from what I could see sticking out from under the black fedora he wore. I don't like fedoras but damn. He had tried to look nice obviously. His white dress shirt's sleeves were rolled up and his black vest's buttons were sparkling gold. His jeans had chains on them that looked kind of strained. His eyes were a brilliant periwinkle blue, striking with excitement and embarrassment. The wide smile on his face revealed deep...deep dimples that stirred a warm sensation in the pit of my stomach. (This is literally what I imagine Dex would wear if he could choose human clothes. I'm a weirdo. I'll draw him soon.)

Keefe trotted over and used the one hand out of his hoodie pocket to give the boy a high five and pull him in for a common bro hug.

"This is Dex. Not a blind date anymore, huh?"Keefe introduced, turning to me.

Dex stared at me periodically, seeming to choke on the words stuck in his throat.

"I'm.."He cleared his throat."I'm Dex. That's short for Dexter."

I cocked an amused brow and laughed."Dexter? Well. I'm [YN]. [YN] [LN]. "I held out a hand for him to shake. Immediately I hated myself. A handshake was the gauntlet. The gauntlet of the friendzone.

But he didn't seem to notice. He smiled widely, shaking my hand eagerly. I was staring at his dimples, not noticing how tight my grip on his hand got.

"I, Sir Dexter Alvin Dizznee, shall be your escort for the rest of the night."He said, releasing his hand from my grip. He did a fancy bow, being extremely kind and dashing.

"Okay, my knight in shining armor."I played along.

Cami and Keefe snickered from where they stood."Would Knight and Princess like to join King and Queen for dinner now?"Keefe sneered.

Cami kicked his side."Ow, I know, I know..it was mean."

She shook her head."Yes, that. And you king? I'm Queen, you're a peasant." "Yeah, a peasant that's gotten under your royal covers."

Dex laughed as Keefe was pummeled with flustered smacks. I shook my head and leaned my head on Dex's shoulder. I was so happy right now. Because Cami was having fun and I had the rest of the evening with Dex. I barely knew anything about him and I was already in love with him. He was funny, a wonderful colorful sense of humor. And he was good-looking.

---

Dex was eating a lovely salad, and I had [YFF]. Cami and Keefe were sharing a dish of fried pork chops. Dex casted Keefe a couple of judgemental side glances as he ate, his hands twitching with his discomfort.

"What's wrong?"I asked, placing my hand over the elf's. The corner of Dex's mouth twitched in a smile but he was too disturbed.

He put down his fork."Well..by human terms, general terms I guess..Elves are vegetarians."Dex croaked.

Keefe dropped his fork and rolled his eyes. "We talked about this. It's not my fault animals were made to be eaten!"He argued.

"Why are elves vegetarians?"I asked slowly. I didn't want anyone to hear, but it was unlikely. Everyone in the restaurant was staring at the boys. Mainly women. A few guys.

Dex smiled at me sweetly. Seeming intrigued that I wanted to know more about a lifestyle that could never be mine. "Elves cherish all life. Which is why we abandoned humans. We didn't like their barbaric ways, they may have been intelligent but we knew they'd betray us eventually. That was how man was built. Our cities are pure. We take care of animals and could never imagine eating them. In place of that, we have many crops that we can eat with various flavors."

I really was interested. So interested I didn't realize I was leaning really close to his face. His eyes drifted from mine to my lips. Admittingly, I really wanted to kiss him.

The waiter cleared his throat."Um, would you like more salad, sir?"He asked, eyeing the empty plate.

Dex shook his head and smiled his bright white smile."No, but thank you."

The rest of the night was eventful. Constant arguing on whose world was better.

"Oh come on! We have pegasi. Unicorns. And feathered dinosaurs."Dex bit.

"Yeah, well we have imagination."I countered

"Elves naturally look like models. So if you come to the Lost Cities, hot people everywhere. What does the Forbidden Cities have that the Lost Cities doesn't?"

"Uh.."I hesitated. We did have a lot of things but they weren't all beneficial in an elf's eyes.

"We have free gay people."Camila slammed her fist on the table and crossed her arms. She had a look on her face that dared Dex to try and fight back.

"And, people have as many kids as they want, nobody cares. And anybody can have a kid now. We can love whoever we want to love with no judgement."I added. Dex's fingers twitched.

Dex stood up and sighed."I need to excuse myself."He said, his voice raspy.

I watched Dex leave the table and exit the restaurant. Keefe stood but Cami put her hand on his, motioning for him to sit. Her brown eyes grazed my figure before nodding.

I hastily left, seeing Dex leaning against a concrete pillar while staring at the stars. The poor drowned out stars from the city lights. In his hand, he was fiddling with something. It looked like a complex machine. With only one hand, five fingers, he disassembled it and reassembled it in a matter of seconds.

"Elves are ridiculed for having more than one child in a single birth. And if they marry someone not on their matchmaking list, the two are immediately deemed a bad match."Dex said, seeming to already know I was there.

I stepped closer hesitantly. I didn't want him to lash out. He seemed to be crying.

"Did you know my parents were a bad match? But they got married anyways. My dad was a Talentless, nobody respected him anyways. When they had me, people made rumors that I'd end up a Talentless like my father. Then they had triplets. My brothers and sister Bex, Rex, and Lex."

"I didn't turn out Talentless. I manifested late, but I became a very powerful Technopath. But like my father, I was also an amazing alchemist. My point is, in the Lost Cities, there's little freedom to love who you want and have children how you want. And I've experienced it all my life."

I hugged his torso from behind, sighing into his back as I rested my head between his relaxed shoulderblades. I had no idea.

"I suppose Camila already told you."He hummed.

I shook my head. It was weird to hear my best friend's full name."I never knew."I whispered, closing my eyes.

"[YN]..you were..very nervous."He pointed out from earlier. My eyes shot open and I pulled away. I scratched the back of my neck as Dex turned to face me.

"I..was worried you wouldn't like me the way Keefe likes Cami. She's been trying to get me a boyfriend for a year. But I never expected her to try and get me a boyfriend who was an elf. I mean, I'm a human. Cami's told me the whole spiel about how elves broke off from humans because they knew we'd betray them. Who am I to think you'll be like Keefe? Open minded, loving. You are those things, but I mean..who am I to assume you like humans-"

He cut me off by grabbing my hands, which were gesturing wildly with my frustration. Dex glanced down at me and smiled, looking into my eyes with his periwinkle blue hues.

"Who ever said I wasn't going to fall in love with you because you're another species? [YN], I don't care if you're a human. I still..I like you. I can't say love because we just met a couple of hours ago."He chuckled.

I nodded and rested my forehead against his. "l like you too. And it's not because you look like a model."

We laughed as we stood there bathed in the moonlight, conversing about the randomest things.

Perhaps a blind date wasn't that bad of an idea.
