Chapter VI: "Oceanillus"
"Woah!" said Roxie-Caitlyn as the wall opened up. Shelly had just placed a plate with a ruby, sapphire, talc, amber, diamond, and topaz on it into a wall. “Was this another find from the pawn shop?”
“Yeah,” Brent confirmed. “That's why Shelly and I were late. We got a call from Richard last night saying he had something and we should go in before work.”
“So it's just normal to have secret rooms inside walls?” Autumn asked half-jokingly.
“I guess, for them, it was,” Shelly agreed. "Brent and I actually haven't seen inside yet. Shall we?"
And they did. It was a room the size of the Jewels' building's cellar. The walls were stone, and the floor was white, birch-like wood. It was dusty with signs of wear-and-tear, but it still seemed like a room of potential. Nothing that couldn't be cleaned up.
“This is an amazing place,” said Monisha.
“I know,” said Shelly. “and we can make it better. Like a real training room.”
“It's certainly empty enough,” Brent added. "The old Jewels must've cleaned it out after losing their powers! Which means it's up to us to fill it up again."
Suddenly, everyone's phones started to beep all at once.
“Unknown caller,” Kenta said from the back.
“Same,” said Nettuno. “I’m just gonna ignore it.”
“I will, too,” said Haden.
They stepped back out into Emoco, not thinking much of it and wondering what they'll need for the training room, when they heard a wave of phone beeps cloud the children's center.
“There’s no way I’m ignoring this,” said Shelly.
“Put it on speaker,” said Autumn, as Shelly did so, accepting the call.
“Attention, attention,” said the mysterious caller. “This is a voicemail message from Oceanillus, a trained Duressish psychic warrior!”
“Oh, no,” Brent groaned quietly.
“My planet, Duressia, knows your planet, Earth,” Oceanillus continued. “We’ve communicated. We’ve tried to be nice, and you keep rejecting us. Don’t know what I’m talking about?”
Yes, Roxie-Caitlyn thought.
“Then, let me take you back to the days of Dragnet-Swerve.”
“Oh my gosh,” groaned Shelly.
"4,000 years ago, Duressians named Dragnet and Swerve had a grand vision for the planet. That we would be a diplomatic haven - a grand hub for creatures across the galaxy to settle on! Thus, they began campaigning leaders of several other planets to allow their people immediate, automatic citizenship on Duressia! However, their efforts have been deemed dangerous and illegal by our government, and thus they were legally forced to discontinue.”
“Everyone who’s surprised by that, raise your hand,” said Brent. “Now, if you’re a Duressian, lower your hand. Oh, look, absolutely no one!”
“That all changes this month!” Oceanillus continued. “You, Queen Ploikel, and most other planets in the universe have impeded Duressish progress for too long, and that is now over! Goodbye!”
The message ended. Brent and Shelly groaned.
“Did he just call the safety of multiple entire races 'impeding progress?'” Kenta asked.
“Yes,” Shelly sighed. “Richard Yoast, while he didn't go into too many details, did mention that the original Jewels fought a group of aliens called Duressians and trying to keep Dragnet-Swerve off of Earth."
"Their queen outlawed it, but, obviously, that doesn't matter to them," added Brent. "Or at least to this one."
“So, we're just straight-up dealing with an alien invasion?" Haden replied. Brent and Shelly nodded.
“Alien invaders,” Autumn echoed. “One of my friends from San Juan is definitely going to put that in our magazine, the MAJO Files.”
“MAJO?” Haden asked.
“Mikaela, Autumn, Jean, and Owen,” Autumn explained.
“So, what are we gonna do about this?” Monisha asked. “I mean, we can’t let this go, right? We have magic powers, and maybe this is why the rings got their magic back!”
Roxie-Caitlyn stepped towards her. “Je suis d’accord,” she said. “My song, ‘Piranha,’ was written to empower. It’s all about standing up for what’s right. I think I should get to bite back the piranha like the girl in the song.”
"If you guys think you're ready," Brent replied, "we'll be with you 100%!"
Haden and Autumn stepped forwards to join Roxie-Caitlyn and Monisha. “If I could speak to Joy, I think she’d say to do it,” said Haden.
“I know Mary-Anne would,” Autumn added.
Kenta and Nettuno got up, too. “I became Stone Armor to help people. To make an impact bigger than myself,” Kenta said. “Now, I don't know much about this alien or magic stuff, but I do know that Kenta Tanaka would never let himself or his species fall under the control of a bunch of alien nobodies!”
“And Nettuno Erwin Stern would never back down from a fight!” said Nettuno. “Also, Stone Armor? Nice! I was thinking Light Rod.”
“Volcanic Ash,” said Haden, putting his hand out, smiling at Kenta with pride.
“Sea-X,” said Autumn, putting her hand on top of her friend’s, followed by Kenta, then Nettuno.
“Windmill,” said Monisha, putting her hand on top next.
Roxie-Caitlyn put her hand down next. “My name will be Cold Shoulder. Jewels on three?”
They all nodded.
“One, two, three, Jewels!”
