Chapter 8: The Lion and The Familiars
The four elements followed curiously behind Jason as he explain in detail every section of the palace. As expected from merely noticing the entrance hall, the floors remained pristine and walls throughout the entire palace dazzled with golden colors. Well, aside from the bedrooms designated for each elements.
Claiming that the size of their bedrooms were simply 'large' was a humiliating understatement. These bedroom were beyond enormous with vast spacious room. Appearing as though they could easily harbor about fifteen or more average bedrooms. Each room was designed specifically for that of each element quality.
Therefore, the earth room had walls painted with all different shades of green, filled with various types of healthy plants. The water room was painted blue with water flowing down from some areas of the room. The fire room had walls painted red with orange furniture and fire designs on a few objects. Whereas the air room had walls painted white with some shades of light yellow and a large window for a more outside view.
Judging exclusively upon observance, the palace was ironically not your average one. Unfortunately it did not consists of large elegant ballrooms or dining areas that could contain hundreds of residents. The place was merely like a dwelling for the elements live and train their magic abilities, with a few extra places.
As the four elements walked throughout the palace learning about the new place they would soon live in, Ivy specifically was falling behind from the group. Although not by much there remained a noticeable contrast between her and the distance from everyone else. She trailed behind with her arms crossed with an expression seemingly indifferent. But her pace was slow and her emerald eyes looked down towards the floor.
If Sera, I believe that's her name is the fire elements and that other boy is the air element as Stellina stated. Then Dallas must be water, causing me to be Earth. That means when I tried to commit suicide, I really did save myself. But how? And Why? Ivy's thoughts continued to fill her mind deep thoughts.
Dallas turned his head only to notice Ivy was trailing behind. He walked towards her, planning to address her change from unemotional nature to a seemingly depressing one.
"Hey uh...you look kind of...troubled?" He said, but somehow it uttered in a more questioning manner.
He looked into her eyes, in such a way that seemed like analyzing. There was something about them that appeared 'off' as though she was secretly distressed about something. Within an instant those pained eyes turned dark and narrow. She was now looking at him, with suspicion.
"What?" she asked.
Dallas looked away, "Uh...nothing...never mind."
For a short moment, there was a silence between the two teenagers. Strange for Dallas but Ivy didn't care.
"You know. I.....uh....never caught your name," Dallas asked, breaking that silence.
Ivy's eyes scan him up and down as if listing every single flaw. "Ivy. My name is Ivy. I will not say it again." she answered.
She then sped up her slow pace, hoping to possibly avoid a further conversation. Luckily it she did.
Meanwhile, walking ahead of Dallas and Ivy were Seraphina and Camden. They too were having a little conversation of their own.
"Cameron, on a-" Seraphina began.
"Camden-" Camden corrected.
"Whatever-"
"-Heh..." he 'laughed' but in a rather unsteadily way.
"Anyways, On a scale from one to ten, how crazy do you think this place is?"
"Eight, because in a place like this, you'd expect to see dragons, talking animals and stuff," he crossed his arms and shook his head in shame," but we've spent about an hour walking through this place, and I've found nothing. I am extremely disappointed."
"Tch eight. I'd give this place a ten. Being a powerful element is cool and crazy enough to get my attention." Seraphina snapped her fingers. A small spark a fire began to emit from her fingertips, but immediately disappeared after.
"Hey Cam..den?" Seraphina began once again. Yet this time her voice was hesitant in uttering his name, feeling apprehensive about rudely mispronouncing it again. Her amber eyes peered at the floor but her head remained remained held high.
"If were gonna be the elements and all, do you think we'll be able to see like our parents, family and friends again?"
Tch parents. He thought. "I don't know. Maybe? But hey like you said being an element is cool and crazy! Who knows what type of awesome things we'll get into!"
Jason opened large bronze gate, grabbing the attention of the distracted group. A bright light flashed through as the doors swung open. It was almost blinding! Once completely opened, it revealed a remarkably beautiful garden.
It was filled with wondrously colorful plants. Healthy green trees, bushes, and flowers of all types were scattered around as though was an exquisite painting. There was a slight cool breeze that blew throughout the area. Spreading around the plants pleasant aroma and making them sway slowly as though dancing in unison.
This is actually a pretty cool place. Ivy admitted though it was only within her thoughts.
"lion!" Seraphina shrieked.
The group faced her with a confused expression. However once they removed their eyes from her, they all understood what she was referring to.
"Oh all of you calm down," the lion spoke," It's not like I'm going to eat you. And if I did you wouldn't even be in the slightest satisfying."
The majestic lion possessed an iconic mane that encircles its head. His fur was beautifully golden, swaying through the wind. He stood a little higher than four feet tall. And like all lions he had sharp teeth.
"I don't know whether to feel scared or offended," said Seraphina.
"Well I guess I stand corrected, this place does have talking animals." said Camden. "But this one doesn't seem nice like the ones in the movies."
The lion laid down and sighed,"I can't believe we have to train you insecure, hormonal teenagers. It's such a pity."
"We?"
"Train?"
"Who do you think you're calling hormonal!?" Seraphina yelled.
Arsalan rolled his eyes at such words.
"Well, weren't you supposed to go to Stellina?"
"I was but then I chose not too." he answered shortly. Then he began to circle the elements in a slow, yet examining way. He unnoticeably paused for a second at Ivy and Camden, then proceeded.
"And," he continued,"- to tell you four some very important information since Stellina is dense and forgets everything."
"What important information?" Ivy asked.
"Just the one about you getting familiars," Arsalan answered simply. Although it was in a way that made the news sound trivial, then what it actually was. He laid down on his stomach once again.
"We get familiars!" Camden said with utter excitement.
"That's what I just said," Arsalan said slightly annoyed, "And I don't understand why you're so happy. The familiars are annoying. And obnoxious."
"Arsalan...you're a familiar- to Stellina," Jason reminded him.
"Yeah, but I turned out right."
"So where exactly are these familiars of ours," Dallas asked.
The lion reluctantly waved his paw,"Somewhere around here."
"You don't expect us to look for them, right?" asked Ivy. Although she already partially knew what the answer was gonna be and was completely dreading the idea of cluelessly running around, to search for something she barely had an interest in.
"I don't expect you to. They do."
Ivy sighed, feeling defeated.
Camden rested his elbow on Ivy's shoulder, "Hey, it will be like playing a game of hide and seek. That can't be to bad. It can be like reminding you of when you were a pure innocent child."
Ivy scanned Camden down with those analyzing emerald eyes of hers only to peer them at his elbow with a face of such disgust. After, she callously pushed him away from her. "Oh...shut up."
"Okay maybe not that pure," Camden muttered.
Seraphina however was completely hyped about the situation. Actually she found it more as a challenge. Her amber eyes filled themselves with a burning flame of determination, "I WILL FIND YOU MY FAMILIAR IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO!!!." She ran off. Camden and Dallas followed after her.
"Oh my gosh, we don't even know what they look like!" Ivy yelled with annoyance laced through her voice. She tried to remind them of such thing but unfortunately they were too far to hear her utter such words.
"Oh don't worry you know once you find them," said Arsalan.
"Ugh." Ivy sighed, "way to be completely vague." She rolled her eyes and walked away.
"Arsalan, you know exactly where their familiars are, don't you," asked Jason.
"Of course I do, I just thought it be funny to watch them run like idiots."
Jason laughed. He then left; feeling that his job there was unneeded now.

Dallas searched with his dark blue eyes aimlessly around the rather large garden. He already inspected through a few bushes but obviously it didn't make him any closer to what he needed to find.
"Okay Dallas, since you don't know exactly what you're looking for, you have to use common sense," he spoke aloud to himself. His eyes scanned the area as he hoped no one was close enough to hear him speak to himself.
"If I am the water element, considering the obvious, then my familiar must be-" he thought for a moment.
"-In the water!"
He ran passed a few of trees and bushes in search of a pond or lake of some sort. Luckily it did not take him long before he found a one.
It was a pond and curved into a lemniscate (infinity symbol) shape. For the specific type of body of water it was, it was rather big, yet divine in beauty. Around the rim of the pond laid large gray stones that poured its pure water into such. Floating above or growing out of the pond were a few several aquatic plants- ranging from colorful water lilies to green sago pondweeds.
Dallas jumped into the water, swimming for a few minutes. He dove under for a moment curious if his familiar was under water. It wasn't. He shot his head above the water for 'air.'
"Y...you do realize that you....don't have to...hold your breath...right?" a shy voice spoke from behind him.
Dallas shifted his head. His eyes gazed upon an otter floating above the water on its back. He flinched slightly, for such a sight was quite shocking for him.
Compared to the otters that lived on Earth, this one had a rather eccentric appearance. While yes, it did remain with the natural light brown fur color, it also had additional features of large light blue sea dwellers with blue-black ends on it long tail.
"I..I...don't," Dallas stuttered.
"Nope...not at all. Since you're...well...the water element your lungs..um..have the ability to adapt to the aquatic respiratory system." the otter explained, causing Dallas to feel stupid.
"You're my familiar, aren't you."
"Yep. My name is Fynn."

Camden search..actually no..this enthusiastic entity explored around the wondrous garden. Somehow, his mind perceived the situation as some sort of mini adventure. Thus he dilly-dallied around, with a carefree mindset. Well that is until he realized something.
Oh shoot. Wasn't I supposed to be looking for something?
Camden shifter his head, then tapped his chin with his index finger.
"Oh Yeah I was looking for my familiar!" he remembered," but what was it supposed to look like again? Oh well."
Camden shrugged off the thought. He wandered aimlessly until he found a tall yet thick tree full with leaves and long branches. He climbed it for no particular reason but enjoyment. Once at the top, he sat on one of its branches.
"What brings you to the top of this tree?" asked a voice. It was fairly high pitched but still obviously came from a male's voice.
Camden turned his head towards the anonymous voice. His silver eyes landed upon an unbelievably small dragon. The little dragon stood at about two feet, both height and length wise. It's tough scales were pure white almost silver. And the eyes were red- almost a burgundy shade.
Camden got startled by the small thing and tumbled over off the branch he once sat on.
"For an air element, you're not very, floaty." the little dragon said. He flew down from the tree and stared upon the twitching boy.
"Well...well for a dragon you're, you're not very big. Hah" Camden insulted, feeling as though he proofed some vital point.
The dragon gasped, "You know, It's not nice to judge someone's snic! I am offended!" The dragon faced away from Camden as though all his pride and confidence was diminished.
"Hey you judged me first!" Camden argued. He sat up from his fallen position and pointed at the small thing.
"Touché."
"Oh by the way, are you my..um..familiar?" Camden asked. Literally forgetting about their little argument.
"Yeah, I'm the cool one."
"Hell yeah I get a Dragon!" Camden exclaimed. His eyes were full of excitement. "Oh wait, what's your name?"
"I am the Ryu," Ryu did a small pose with his wings spread open.

Seraphina frantically ran around the garden obviously beyond eager to locate that familiar of hers. Unlike a rather intellectual person who would search through bushes, trees or maybe even large grass, she instead just continued to run about. Her logic was, if she only saw plants no animal was there.
Seraphina sprinted hastily, a bright yellow light emitted from the grass. She stopped dead in her tracks for such a thing caught her attention.
"Ah Hah, There!" she yelled.
With utter speed, Seraphina ran towards the bright light. The closer she got, the bright light showed to be flames. Without a hint of fear in her amber eyes, she slid across the grass and clutched the flame.
She stared closer at the flame in which she held so tightly. However it wasn't merely a flame but actually flame red bird cover in fire. A phoenix. And she was holding its body.
The fire flowed through the phoenix's body in way that was mesmerizing to that of the eyes. Its miniature head structured itself on it's thin yet long golden neck. The body was orange and relatively small in size but made up such with its wings. Oh the wings. They was enormous! And colored with red and golden feathers. They dazzled beautifully. As for the tail, that too was large but not equivalent to that of its wings.
The phoenix glared at Seraphina.
"Hey! What the hell is wrong with you! Don't you know it's rude to just barge into someone else's privacy!!" Phoenix yelled.
"Oh I'm sor--"
Before Seraphina could complete her sincere apology, the Phoenix generated the a fireball with its wings and attacked her. Seraphina slid through the grass, making a pathway of dirt as she did so.She winced from the pain. Not cause by the fire but from the dirt slide.
The Phoenix flew over to her, flappindirts large majestic wings. "Rule number one! No attacking the familiar!"
"But...I didn't-" Sera began, trying to defend herself.
"-Ah!" The phoenix interrupted," That also includes no talking back!"
Seraphina stared at the bird. Both astounded and genuinely confused but made sure not to utter another word.
"Ugh. Anyways my name is Phoenix."

Ivy examined one of the green bushes. It had mini pink flowers surrounding it. She ranted about the situation under her breath.
Unlike the others who ran off deeper within the garden, Ivy remained near the entrance. She refused to walk any further than her current surroundings. When she was unable to find any signs of animal life in the bush she closed it with utter force. She narrowed her eyes and folded her arms.
"Ugh. I don't see the point in this. I don't even know what I'm looking for!" she complained aloud.
"If you don't see the point, why don't you just stop." an anonymous voice spoke, although, though it was rather feminine.
"Exactly!" Ivy exclaimed agreeing with the voice. Which she had yet to figure out the source of where it came. "This doesn't make even make sense, whatsoever! I should just--wait who said that?"
"I did," the voice spoke again. More slyly this time.
Ivy turned her head and noticed a fox lying casually next to her. The fox was green and white. It had colorful flowers growing out of its long puffy tail and fur. When standing it stood a little over than two in half feet tall.
"Were you just sitting there the whole time?" Ivy asked.
"Yeah. I thought you being one of the smartest would've noticed after about five minutes. Unfortunately i guess I was wrong."
Ivy normally would have protested but for some reason she didn't. Instead a small yet faint blush appear on her cheeks. She used her right hand as an attempt to cover her face. Oh how she felt embarrassed by her obliviousness.
"Well, broken, child, My name is Sinopa. I am you're familiar. Although it's probably obvious," said the Fox, "but then again after observing you, maybe not."
Ivy was stunned by this fox's way of speech. So much so that she didn't know whether to feel annoyed or intrigued by Sinopa's sarcasm.

All the elements walked back to where Arsalan was. He sat up straight and pressed his too paws together, as though he was clapping slowly.
"Took ya long enough," he said," You'd think people as young as you would take less time. But I guess not."
"Oh Shut up! You didn't even give us a description of what we were looking for!" Ivy yelled, finally getting annoyed with this lion.
"But you still found them. I just wish it didn't take so long. I have priorities too you know!"
"Uh...but Arsalan...all you do is sleep," said Fynn.
"Hey shush." Arsalan hissed," They don't need to know that!"
"Oh Im sorry Arsalan."
"Anyways," Arsalan began to change the subject. "These are obviously your familiars. They will be your companions and trainer. They will help you unlock your soon to be found abilities. So treat them respectfully, because I'm not helping you with magic." Arsalan left.
Ivy rolled her eyes at his last remark.
"Hey Camden. Your familiar's a dragon," Seraphina said in an excited, yet questioning way.
"Yeah," he replied.
"You'd expect a fire element to have a dragon, but I guess they're air dragons too. I don't think they're as intimidating, though.
"Not intimating!!" Ryu felt mad and offended, he blew at her. Causing her to once again fly through the grass.
"Hey. Could you do that again, I wasn't able to see the look of regret on her face," Ivy whispered to Ryu.
"How rude," said Seraphina.
