Chapter 3: Breathing....Water?
The sun shined its bright glorious rays upon the golden yellow gritty sand. The squabbling seagulls flew overhead in the clear blue sky, some harassing the beachgoers in their hunger that appeared to be endless. A chilled wind blew its soft breeze and the smell of salt across the seashore. The blue jeweled waves crashed loudly against the shore as the light caused the wet sand to glisten. A few beachgoers relaxed on the sand comfortably under their vibrant colored umbrellas whereas others preferred to splash blissfully in the cool water.
Dallas was one of the many to indulge in water entertainment. His eyes were a dark blue color, appearing as though they were merely reflecting from that of the divine blue waves. His hair was raven-colored, styled in a short and messy way. He was relatively tall compared to most guys his age though not by much, and remotely muscular. Considering he was at the beach he wore black and blue swim trunks. He swam peacefully in the dark blue water with almost zero cares in the world, when he heard the yell of a little girl. Dallas turn his head.
He saw a young little girl-possibly aged around seven years old-trying to reach for a stuffed toy dog that was cruelly being held high above her head by some boy much older than her. Dallas swam back shore to observe the situation better.
"Give it back!" the little girl pleaded. Her hair was bright red and braided. She wore blue shorts and a small lavender shirt. Her eyes were hazel colored, large and glistening as though she wanted to cry. She jumped up in hopes she could reach for her toy. But the boy just simply raise his arm higher, teasing her callously. "Please!!"
The boy laughed. He appeared to be around Dallas's age, if not a year old. He wore your average 'bad boy' clothing with dark brown-almost black-and red hair. His shoulders were broad, he had a muscular structure, and stood, at the very minimum, an inch higher than Dallas. He had a smug look on his face obvious taking as much amusement from this teasing as possible."Like I'd do that! Watching you cry is far more entertaining."
"Just give her back her toy," Dallas said in calm, collected composure. He hoped that merely asking could be all that was needed to fix the situation. But unfortunately it wasn't. Hah! As if the guy would stop tormenting a child that easily, Dallas should have been aware of that.
The boy laughed again, obviously not perceiving Dallas as much of threat. "And what are you going to do if I don't?" He challenged.
Dallas gritted his teeth," I don't want to start anything. So I'm just saying to give it back to her!" He rose his voice, not exactly fond of some guy picking on a little girl presumably less than half his age.
"Please give it back!" the little girl pleaded once more.
"Okay, if you want your toy so bad," he starts. Looking down at the girl as though she was an insignificant little bug. He then throws the toy far into the water. "Go get it." He laughs once again.
The little girl watched as her little toy puppy get thrown far into the ocean; gradually drifting further off into the distance. Tears rolls down her eyes as she realizes she'll never she her favorite toy again.
"What the hell was that for!?" Dallas yells.
"I thought it would funny to see how pathetic her face looked and it was." the guy continues laughing.
"How can you possibly find amusement in making a little girl cry!?!"
"Well I'm sorry if my form of entertainment is different from yours, but it's not like you can do anything about it. So just get over it!" The guy pushed Dallas as he uttered those last words.
Dallas was completely unfazed by the push, but still punched the guy in his face for what he did. "You know what you're sick."
They began to fight. But unfortunately for Dallas the other guy had friends. So it became a three to one battle. Eventually, Dallas couldn't hold out anymore and passed out. Then the gang picked up his unconscious body and through him into the water.
"That'll teach him not to punch me, again" the guy said and wiped the blood that seep from out of the scar on the side of right his cheek.
"Don't you think, he might....you know....die!" asked one of the guy's friends.
"Oh Shut your damn mouth!"
Dallas was now unconsciously sinking down into the ocean floor. Swallowing huge gulps of sea water as he fell. A normal person would have died by that but Dallas wasn't dying. Actually the water helping him. He was breathing the water! Although, he was barely conscious to notice such a thing. Fortunately, the little girl from who cried over her lost toy witnessed everything and reported to a lifeguard. The lifeguard immediately rushed to save the 'drowning' boy.
The lifeguard brought the boy to shore and before he could perform CPR or anything, Dallas woke up. He sat up slightly and coughed up tons of water. "You know kid, you got lucky. Being in the water that long, unconscious, could have killed you, "the lifeguard said. "Do you think you need any medical services?"
"No.....I think....I'll be fine," Dallas choked.
"Okay then," the lifeguard said, slightly worried for the kid,"Well Be Safe!"
Since Dallas was living close to the beach at the moment, he thought it would be a smarter idea to just go back home and avoid anymore unnecessary dramatic events. He grabbed his blue sweater out of his backpack that he left on shore and threw it on. Luckily no one stole my stuff. He thought. Not like it would actually matter.
He walked some more only to run into him again.
"WOW, you're such a narcissist. Pretending to drown, just for attention," said that guy from earlier. "How pathetic."
Dallas glared at him with his dark blue eyes.
"Ooh, so you're just gonna glare at me now. Soooo scary." The guy continued to speak feeling as though he is superior as of now, "What happened to that tough guy act you had earlier?"
Right after the bully said that, a giant hand of water emerged from the ocean and grabbed the bully down into the deep blue water. Everyone at the beach screamed in terror and ran as the guy was forced into the ocean, where he'd soon probably die.
Dallas just stared at what occurred. It happened so fast! He wasn't particularly positive about how to react. Should he be pleased that there is now one less obnoxious person in the world? Or scared that an impossible object emerged from the sea and practically dragged a guy down to his death........and that him of all people remotely wanted that to happen? He than decided that the best scenario would be to just simply walk away and pretend nothing ever happened.
As he made his way out of the beach he felt a someone pull at his arm. Please don't let that be that guy's friends. I cannot handle anymore drama today! He turned around. He was relief to see that is was only the little girl from earlier.
"Hi!" she greeted in a high squeaky yet still adorable voice," I wanted to say thank you for well you know."
"Ah, don't mention it," Dallas replied, shrugging.
"Well bye!" The little girl waved then left. Dallas watched the little girl skip away. He then realized that he was never able to retrieve her toy and felt genuinely bad about it. "Hey wait a second!" He called the little girl to come back. The little girl turned her head around. A slightly confused expression spread across her face.
Dallas open one of the pockets to his bag and pulled out a twenty dollar bill. He handed the money too her, "Here. You know so you can buy a new toy."
The girl's eyes grew wide. For her, a measly twenty dollar bill was equivalent to that of two thousand dollars. "But wait. Don't you wanna keep it?"
"Trust me. I definitely do not mind giving a small twenty dollar bill away, since it's not like I'll actually need it."
The girl gasped with eyes full of pure joy. "Thank you!" She gave Dallas a hug then ran off, presumably to her parents.
Dallas left the beach when something dawn on him. "It's not possible that I created that insane water hand......right?"
