Chapter 12: Control
After walking for about twenty minutes, Sera found herself approaching a cave that lies deep within the forest. Its shape was generally ovoid, with the walls only arched about thirty feet above the floor. Actually, if the cave wasn't in the forest one would probably assume it was your average highway tunnel. The walls and the floor wasn't rigid, yet instead were smooth. The area was spacious enough to fit at the very least three cars parked side by side. The cave wasn't even dark! There were torches aligned on the walls straight down the pathway, lighting the place. And in the middle of it all were ten targets, presumably for Sera to aim her fire at.
Sera crawled her way into the cave. Her head hanging low, allowing her ginger hair to fall all over her face. "Couldn't you have flown me over here?" She complain. "You got wings. Use them for the greater good of your trainee."
"Well, I could have but then I would be tired."
Sera sighed, feeling defeated. She got up from warm ground and brushed the dust off her dress.
"Ok Seraphina!" Phoenix started, grabbing the attention of Sera. "This is probably the only place you get to break things and not get completely in trouble."
"REALLY!?" Sera exclaimed with pure joy laced through her voice. Then she ran over to one of the ten red targets, and kicked it down, damaging it. "Die you useless piece of wood!"
"Not yet Idiot!" Phoenix yelled as she smacked Sera with one of her wings. "Only when I tell you to!!"
"Oh..................Can I break things now?"
"NO!"
"Hmph. Fine. Be that way." Sera pouted, crossing her arms.
"Ok the first part of our training: Stretching," Phoenix instructed. "Now I want you to bring your arms out and...ok stretching is over. NOW DROP DOWN AND GIVE ME FIFTY YOU FILTHY PIECE OF-"
"- wait what. weren't we just-"
"DRop! MagGot! DrOp!"
Sera fell to the ground and positioned herself in a way designed for push ups. It was fairly easy for her to do a few but then she eventually slowed and started to struggle. Then she plopped back down on the ground with a loud thud.
"What are you doing?!"
"Struggling!" Sera answered already breath heavily.
"What do you mean 'struggling' you only did eleven!"
"That's ten more then what I usually do. In P.E. I can barely do one." Geez I've been yelled at by a ton of people but I never thought I'd get yelled at by a bird, let alone follow orders from it. Sera thought.
"Well you're gonna have to learn to do more! This is only the beginning!"
"Just kill me already" Sera mumbled.

After countless hours, well specifically one hour and thirty minutes, of over dramatized exercising: push ups, sit ups etc, it was finally over. Sera laid exhausted on her back, almost out of breath.
"Now to begin your training." Phoenix announced.
"Wait this wasn't the training! Then...WHAT WAS THE POINT OF ALL OF THIS!" Sera yelled. She got up, actually jumped up from laying down and clenched her fist as though she was just about ready to beat the crap out of this bird.
"Eh. You'll see."
"NO! I am NOT taking 'you'll see' for an answer you here me! You have been hollering at me and forcing me to work all day and for what? Nothing! So you better tell me right here and right now why--" She continued to yell until she eventually realized her entire body was covered with fire. Fortunately, her clothes were designed specifically for her thus they didn't disintegrate. "Oh Shoot! I burning alive, what do I do!? Help me!"
"Calm Down! It's not like your gonna die! You're the fire element remember?!" Phoenix yelled back partially attempting to help her relax.
"Oh yeah! Your right!" As Sera calm down her flames began to decrease.
"Geez you're more of an air head then the air element."
"Hey!"
"I'm sorry that it's true."
"You're so mean."
"Anyways Seraphina, I want you to try to generate fire around your fist." Phoenix ordered.
Sera held her right fist out. She focus hard on it squinting her eyes, trying to imagine bright orange flames on her hand. While it did take a short moment, she eventually got a spark, which led to a rise of powerful fire emitting around her fist.
"Ha ha! I did it!" Sera exclaimed, extremely unaware of how loud her voice was in the cave. "I got the power!" Sera began to dance stupidly aroun the cave with no cares in the world.
"Hey! You're getting way too loud, calm down! But still congratulations." Phoenix commented. "Anyways you see? The point of exercising is was to help you gain more energy to effortlessly create flames."
"Ah, I get it....i think. You're forgiven now."
" What do you mean forgiven- ugh whatever. Ok so now that you know how to create flames, I want you to try and throw them at the target. All you have to do is release the fire from your hand as if you're throwing a baseball. " Phoenix instructed.
The target was only a few meters away considering this was Sera's first attempt. Sera generated fire in her right fist once again, but as she was about to throw it, someone intruded on their lesson.
Arsalan pranced causally into the cave as though it was his property.
"Arsalan! What the hell are you doing here!" Phoenix asked obviously furious at the way he interrupted the lesson.
"Just here to watch the show." He answered, beginning to lay down on the. right side of the cave walls.
"What show?" Sera asked turning around to face Arsalan.
"The show where you mess up and I laugh. Beginners are always fun to watch."
"Hey that's not very supporting!" Phoenix scolded.
"Oh Like you can talk!" Sera argued toward Phoenix.
"Touché."
"So are you gonna start? Cause I don't have all day." Arsalan said completely impatient.
Phoenix huffed." Ok! Seraphina try again."
Sera, for the third time, generated a ball of fire in her right fist. She tried aim it at the target but when she threw it, it somehow managed to hit Phoenix instead. She bumped into the wall due to the hit and fell to the ground. Arsalan laughed.
"You're....supposed....to hit.....the target..." Phoenix groan.
"Oops."
Sera tried once again but this time she hit the wall instead.
***
About an hour has passed and Sera have yet to hit her target. Actually, if one were to examine the area, they would see the holes and smoke emitting from both the ground and walls; thus she burned everything but her target.
"Ok. You've been at it for awhile now and somehow managed to hit everything except the target and it's getting kind of sad," Arsalan commented.
After insult by Arsalan, Sera 'accidentally' threw a fireball at the wall near him. Despite her missing the fire still managed to catch a little bit of his fur. Arsalan panicked and tried to blow the fire out.
"HEY! Watch the the fur, PYRO!" Arsalan yelled, with anger laced through his voice.
"Sorry." She apologized in an innocent voice to make it less obvious that she intentionally wanted to burn him.
" Ok this is clearly not working. But I think I see the problem." Phoenix began to address the obvious predicament within the room. "You're not focusing exactly on the target."
"What are you talking about? Of course I am!" Sera retorted.
"No. You're focusing on the way you aim the fireball instead of fixating your mind on where you want it to go. Understand?" Phoenix explained.
".....um....no I don't get it."
"Ugh. You cannot throw something and not know where you want it to go. So try again but just focus only on your target and controlling how the fireball will hit it and nothing else."
"...Um...ok."
Sera tried once again. She generate a fireball in her right hand and locked her eyes on the target. Then she threw to fireball.
It barely hit the mere edge of the target.
"Hey look! improvement." Arsalan commented, using his paw to point at the small burnt edge of the target.
"Grrr. You know what! Im taking a break!" Sera announced, marching furiously out of the cave. She ignore any words Phoenix tried to use to deter her from leaving. She just didn't want to hear anything at the moment.
After exiting the cave, she found a tree and reclined herself on hit. Then, unexpectedly, someone fell from above onto her.
