Chapter Two: The Healer
After the chaos of the attack, the police were rang, and everyone in our class chattered among each other. Allison was talking with her father who had rushed in to see if she was alright. Stiles was on his phone, probably trying to get into contact with Scott. Our teacher, Miss Blake was lent on her desk, her hair ruffled, a few fresh scratches on her face.
I stood next to Allison, my gaze going to the feathers and the dead birds that still lingered on the floor. I was thinking about all the different possibilities why the birds did this? Why did they attack us? I've never seen anything like this in nearly four-hundred years.
"Next time you're feeling you wanna stay home, you stay home," Chris had spoke to his daughter, but it pulled me from my thoughts.
"I'm okay, thanks to Alice," Allison replied back her eyes meeting mine as I offered her a small thin smile. "But, Dad, the deer and now this?" I frown in confusion as I don't know anything about a deer.
"I know. I know," Chris repeated in a small tone, as he looks away from Allison.
"It can't be a coincidence," she carries on, but Stiles's father came on other to question him. I look over to Stiles and nodded my head towards the door, wanting to speak to him.
He followed my lead and we went out of the classroom as his Father talked to Mr Argent. As we were clear out of sight and the door closed behind us.
"What's this thing about a deer," I state quickly to his, my gaze darkened as I wasn't informed of the matter.
"Hmm," he gulped back the lump in his throat as he noticed my dark gaze. "A deer ran straight into Lydia's car with them both in it," he replied quickly, but my gaze softened.
"And you didn't phone or text?" I asked, my eyebrow cocked up at him.
"You haven't been in contact with us for the whole summer, Alice," Stiles replied his face twisted in anger but it wasn't full, it was just slight, but I could tell.
"I'm sorry, Stiles, but you don't know what it's like to have the weight of different people depending on you," I put my hands into fists at my side, my voice raised ever so slightly. "You don't know, what I've been through as a Witch, or what I've lost," Tears threatened my eyes, as I didn't break our connection. "I used the whole summer to become stronger, to protect my friends from any supernatural threat that might come our way," My fists became tighter, I could feel my knuckles turn white, my blood racing.
Just then, the lockers around us began to shake, and vibrate but Stiles's eyes went to the lockers around us as I just stared at him. "Alice, calm down," he states and I see for the first time within his eyes. Fear...
His eyes pulled me out of whatever trance I was in and the lockers around us abruptly stopped their shaking. I took a short breath as my eyes wondered all over Stiles face. "I-I'm sorry," I state as I turn away and began to walk.
"Alice! Alice!" Stiles tried to stop me from walking away, but I made my mind up. I left the school without another word, as tears ran down my face. High emotions can fuel Witches power, and my emotions were pretty high and I was feeling a lot these days...
I was hoping that I could keep my emotions in check, so I can be useful to my friends in times of need...
.............................................................
It's been a few hours since I left the school and I had gotten a text message from Stiles, telling me to meet him at the Hale House, as Scott was there with Derek and Isaac. I used my vampire speed to reach the house in time. Though I haven't forgotten about what happened early with Stiles, but I kept my cool, putting it as a one time thing.
I walk in human speed up the porch, to see the red door brighter than usual, like it was pained over. I took a few steps towards it, and took a whiff of the door, smelling the fresh paint on it. I frown in confusion as why would Derek paint the door if he didn't live here anymore.
Before I could ponder anymore, the door swung open to see Derek on the other side. "Alice," he nodded as he stepped to the side to let me inside. I gave him a thin smile as I entered the room, as I took my gaze to the left, I see Scott passed out on the floor, sweat dripping from him.
"What happened?" I asked, as I see a new tattoo on his left arm, two bands.
"He got a tattoo, but it healed so Derek burnt it so it would stay permanent," Stiles replies to my question with a straight face.
"Is that why I smell burnt flesh," I replied with a smug look on my face. "You know, I could have made a paste to cover over his arm so the tattoo would appear the next day," I state to them both as Derek moved back next to Stiles, both of them looking dumbfounded and shocked on what I said. I rolled my eyes playfully at them both, as I turn to look at Scott, hearing his heat beat steady.
Suddenly, out of no where he gasps awake and looks straight down to his tattooed arm, lifting it up to admire it. Before, his gaze went to Derek, Stiles and I.
"It worked," Scott sounded surprised that it did. I could only chuckle at him, but I tried to hold it in. "Nice to see you out Alice,"
"It's nice to be seen," I remarked as I gave him a wink, before chuckling once again. Scott only laughed before getting up and getting his shirt back on.
"Alice, can you check Isaac with me," Derek had pipped up as I twisted my head to his to give him a nod, with a smile.
After I nodded, Scott was ready, his sleeve rolled up to look at his tattoo. "Well, it looks pretty damn permanent now," Stiles states as they worked towards the door. I walked with Derek to look over Isaac, as I was a healer in my time and still am.
"Yeah," I see Scott rub his hand over the tattoo, before he starts to pull the sleeve down. "I kind of needed something permanent... Everything that's happened to us, everything just changes so fast. Everything's so..." I heard Scott say, as he walked to the front door with Stiles, as he thought of a word to go with his statement. "Ephemeral,"
I zoned out as I take a glance over to Isaac, physically, nothing was wrong with him. "He was attacked by an Alpha, but the wound healed, but--"
"Not on the inside," I cut Derek off before he could finish, our eyes locking with one another as he gave me a firm nod. "I'll do what I can," I said to him, as I picked up the wolfsbane, and enclosed it within my hands. Within a second the wolfsbane turned into ash, I could feel it in my palm. I opened my hand and fumes from the ashes produced, I lowered my hand to Isaac's nose so he could inhale it. If wolfsbane is used correctly, with the right spell and a skilled Witch, wolfsbane can become a healing agent and because its now in ash the toxicity of the plant is lessened.
I see the smoke go into Isaac's nostrils, and smiled, as I lifted my hand back up and dusted the ashes off, clapping my hands together.
"You painted the door," Scott had spoken, making me look up as he stares at the red door, confirming my suspicion. Scott's eyes went to Derek. "Why'd you paint the door?" He asked, but I had a feeling Derek wasn't going to tell him.
"Go home, Scott," there was something in Derek's eyes, that really wanted Scott to go, and not drag him into whatever mess Derek had gotten into.
"And why only one side?" Scott carried on, not listening to Derek's comment. Scott looked at the door for a moment, before flexing his hand out, and his claws appeared on that hand, before I heard his nail drag along the wood, scraping the red paint off.
"Scott," Derek's manly voice came into play, as he walks over to them, I was behind him as I wanted to know what he was hiding. As we made our way over, Scott counited to claw his way through the paint on the door, using both his claws now to peel it away.
Within seconds of him peeling the pain away, a black painted symbol appeared on Derek's door. Derek had folded his hands over his chest, not pleased at all.
"The birds at school and the deer last night, just like the night I got trampled by the deer-" Scott was putting the pieces together, as his gaze went from Stiles to Derek. "-when I got bit by the Alpha,"
"How many are there?" Scott had asked Derek.
Derek sighs, his arms still folded, but he couldn't lie to Scott anymore, if he needs our help. "A pack of them," he replies, his eyes on Scott. A few seconds of silence filled the air. "An Alpha pack," Derek had added more to the plot that was becoming more thickened.
"All of them? How does that even work?" Stiles had asked, not sure how that really worked.
"I hear there's some kind of a leader. He's called Deucalion," Derek had said. An Alpha leading an Alpha pack, they would be unstoppable, but everything has a weakness. "We know they have Boyd and Erica. Peter, Isaac, and I have been looking for them for the last four months," Derek carried the conversation on. But he didn't mention my help, maybe that was a good thing for now.
"Let's say you find them," Scott began as he took a few steps forward. "How do you deal with an Alpha pack?"
"With all the help I can get," Derek replied, though it pained him that he needed help, there were lives at stake and I know I would help him until my last breath.
"Where is she?" Isaac's voice pierced the air, making us all turn to see hi sat up on the table, looking at us all. "Where's the girl?" He asked, but we didn't know anything about a girl.
"What girl?" I had asked Isaac, my eye trained on him. But boy, sure I was in for a treat. Everything was happening for a reason, I just felt it in my bones that the events that are going to take place were going to be a grand scheme of someone who's been plotting for a long time...
