Chapter Forty-Three: Humanity
I jolted awake, as oxygen entered my lungs once again. I frantically look around, to see that I was no longer at Oak Creek, I was at the High School. I was in one of the classrooms, but I was up right and tied on a chair. I wiggled on the chair, but felt a burning sensation around my wrists and the rope that was tied across my chest. I took a deep sniff as I knew what the stuff was, it was making me weak, and have no energy.
"Vervain," I spoke weakly, as my gaze lifted up to see Stiles, but it wasn't really him. It was the Nogitsune wearing his face. But as I looked deep into his eyes, I remembered what happened to Allison. "Where's Allison!" I spat out trying to sound tough but I was weak with the ropes around me.
"She's dead and so are you. You're friend believe that you are anyway," Void Stiles replied, as his gaze was wicked and smug looking.
"No, you're lying," I said to his, as I held back tears in my eyes as he was lying to me, that this was another trick of his.
"Why would I lie now?" He countered back, as he moves off the teachers desk and stands, coming forward, staring at me. "I'm winning the game," he smirks devilishly as his expression told it all. My heart began to brake, shattering into pieces. Sobs escaped from my mouth, as tears rolled down my face. "Sweet little Alice, her heart is breaking all over again," he teased me, mocking the situation with the death of my family.
"Screw you!" I yelled at him as he just gives me a smirk. He had neared me and stood in front of me, leaning down to my level, staring me in the face. His expression was deadly, like he wanted me to fight him on this, to make a drama. But I had no physical nor emotional energy to do so. My best friend was dead. No, my Sister was dead, and my heart broke like it did all those centuries away. I just wanted to scream in pain and cry all my tears out...
"Night-night," Void Stiles states as his wicked smirk on his face again, and suddenly he places his hands on the side of my head and twisted, snapping my neck once again...
But the last thought on my mind, was that Allison had died for no reason, for no real reason. And if I had given her my blood, she would still be alive, and deep down that's on me. It's my fault she's dead...
................................
My eyes began to flutter open, as I was still tied down to the chair, still bound in Vervain. I felt weaker than before, but these ropes that were laced with Vervain wasn't helping me. It's been a few hours since I was last conscious. My vision began to blur as tears rolled down my cheeks again. My thoughts were all over, my heart was broken...
Just then, I began to hear grunts coming from within the school, but they were muffled and I couldn't clearly make out who it was. My energy was low, but I had to get out of these ropes. I wiggled with the last bit of energy that I had, trying so desperately to get out of these ropes, but it was no hope. I slummed back into the chair, as the burning sensation was still so strong. I took a shaky breath, I was too drained to concentrate to do a spell.
Hope was gone, my hope was gone, all these years hope was the only thing that had gotten me through the days, when I had nothing, when I was at my lowest. So hope was still in me back then, but now, it's gone....
Suddenly, a glow of pinky-coloured light had emitted from my chest around. It was dimmed due to it being under my top, I frowned as the glow began to glow brighter, and brighter. The ropes around me started to loosen, and the burning sensation began to stop. Just then, the rope had cut in half like someone had used a knife and cut it. My wrists were freed, then my ankles were also freed. Lastly, the rope around my chest were cut and the rope had fallen to the fall. I was froze to the spot for a moment, as I had no idea what the hell just happened. I've never seen my necklace do something like that before... But I didn't have time to question it right now...
I slowly stood from the chair, but my legs felt like jello, but I pushed through. I tumbled forward, hitting the desk in front of me, holding onto its side. As I catch my breath back, and regained a little strength, just enough for me to walk. I took a moment to gather it and pushed off from the desk, and made my way to the door. I reached it and went straight through as it was already open.
I began to hear a screams and grunts coming from down the hallway, I took my gaze down and just then the doors flung open to reveal Scott, Kira, Lydia and Stiles. I frowned as they didn't notice me as I was a bit down the hallway, but they were looking around as they didn't know where they were. Scott looks down to himself as the examine a wound on him.
"We're ok," Scott states, breathing a sigh as he was thrilled. "We're..." But before he could finish he was thrown aside to the lockers, hard. Kira spun around to face the one who has thrown him and it was the Nogitsune. Before she could react he had back handed her hard and she went down, dropping her sword.
"This was my game," the Nogitsune states, as his eyes lifted from Kira to Lydia and Stiles. "You think you can beat me at my game?" He asks them, as they began to take a few steps back, frightened on what will happen. "Divine move," the Nogitsune began as he walks forward, as Lydia and Stiles walk backwards. "Divine move. You think you have any moves at all? You can kill the Oni. But me? Me? I'm a thousand years old. You can't kill me!" Void Stiles yells at Stiles and Lydia.
"But we can change you," I had spoken loud enough, my voice slightly groggily, as the were now down the hallway and near the classroom I was in. Stiles and Lydia had shot around to face me, their colour in their cheeks had faded as they were seeing a ghost. I stumbled forward, as I was still regaining my energy back.
"What?" The Nogitsune asks, as he was surprised by my answer. But I came to the side of the real Stiles, as I felt Lydia and his gaze burning into me.
"You forgot about the Shugendo Scroll," I state proudly, as his smug look on his face began to drop as he realised what I was on about.
"Change the host," he replied, as his voice was soft, the dread on his face was clear.
"You can't be a fox and a wolf," Stiles states as the Nogitsune was mad, but out of no where Scott had clamped his claws into the Nogitsune's shoulder, and extended his arm, his teeth bare as he chomps down, his eyes glowing red. The Nogitsune began to scream as he knew this was the end for him. He screams again, as Scott lets his teeth go from his arm. Out of nowhere, Kira's sword was drove through his body, making him go stiff for a moment. Thunder crackles throughout the school as the lights flickered above us. After a moment, Kira drags her sword back out of him. The Nogitsune fall to his knees as he looked like he was going to vomit something up. He opens his mouth as a fly came buzzing out and down the hallway, as we watch it go, our heads turning to follow it.
I blinked for a moment and when I reopened my eyes, I saw Isaac, holding a box and the fly was captured within, as the buzzing sound had stopped. He twists it's lid and locked it inside. I turn back to look at the Nogitsune's body as it began to jolt around, like it was giving it's last breath. It stops and turns grey, his skin began to crack and shatter. He falls to the ground and once he impacts it he turns into dust and vanishes on the spot.
I sighed as this was all over, that this was done. Scott and Kira had looked up at me, their eyes burning into me. "Alice? You're alive?" Scott asks, his tone in disbelief.
"That's not possible, I saw the Oni kill you," Kira had pipped up, as she was sure of it and she was. But before I could get a word in, I see Stiles begin to waver and suddenly he leans to one side too much and his weight followed. Luckily, I had grabbed him just in time, laying him down onto the floor.
Scott quickly removes his jacket and folds it in half, creating a pillow for him. He puts it under Stiles's head, and we began to wait for him to wake up. I stood back up and looked down at him as Isaac came over and hovered behind Scott and Kira who were kneeling down, waiting for him to wake. Lydia was holding his hand, a loving look in her eyes.
A few moments passed, and Stiles eyes began to open as he took air in and let it out, as his eyes wondered all our faces. We all exhaled as we were glad he was alright. "Oh, God, I fainted, didn't I?" Scott chuckles at his answer and nods, but Stiles looks up to the ceiling. "We're alive. We all alive?" My expression changed, as my eyes drifted down, as tears began to threaten to drop down my cheeks.
"Yeah. We're ok," Scott had replied, but that was a lie, I'm not ok, I'm not fine. My breathing began to pick up, but a faint smell came to my nose, as I picked it up. It smells like death. I followed the smell, as my eyes landed on the doors that lead outside. I could hear my name being called but I didn't reply. I push open the doors and went further across, as there were steps leading down the the lacrosse field. But as I came to the steps, I see Aiden, oozing black blood from his mouth, his heart began to beat slowly, as tears ran down my face. And for the last time Aiden drew his last breath, and fell backward into Ethan's arms, as he sobs.
Death and pain followed me around. It all started with the Nemeton, I did that spell. I had a part of the Nogitsune getting out, if I didn't do that spell their parents would be dead, and then that would have been on me... My breathing began to pick up once again as everything around me was block out, my heart racing, emotional pain emitted off of me like I was a nuke. Without even knowing it, I had walked down the steps, and stopped a few inches from Derek.
I began to sob, as they looked at me, Chris was with them, and my heart broke even more. It was hanging on by a thread, and it was going to snap...
"Allison's dead, Aiden's dead... Who's next?" I scream at them, but my voice sounded a bit cocky. "Stiles? Lydia? Scott? How many more friends will I have to bury in my life?!" I choke out, as I ran my hand through my hair.
"Alice, I need you to calm down," Derek said carefully, as he was now on his feet.
"No, I can't!" I yelled back to him, my eyes red with all the crying I've been doing. "For the moment I've met you all I've been lying. I'm not Seventeen! I'm Three-Hundred and Seventy-Three years old! I'm a vampire for God sake, I drink blood, human blood!" I ranted out to them, as their eyes widened a bit, but realisation dawned on me. "I could have saved Allison! If I didn't die, she would be here! It's all my fault!" I broke down as I crumbled to the floor, going on to my knees. "It hurts so much! I can't take it anymore!" I yelled out, as sobs came from me, but I knew the only thing I could do which would make it better...
I had to turn it off...
Without even knowing, Scott and the rest had came down to stand at the side of Derek, all their eyes were soft and felt sorry for me. But they don't know what it's like to have near enough Four-Hundred years of pain, and loss. I ran my hands through my hair, as this was my only option, not to feel the hurt and pain. I wouldn't be able to live without her, I just can't.
I closed my eyes, and began the process. I began to receive flashes of images of Allison and I, and how our friendship was, our smiles, our giggles with Lydia. Our bond over all, it was all there before my eyes. But there was a sense of a switch, at the back of my mind. I flicked it within my head, and the images of Allison began to fade. I snapped open my eyes, my expression blank, as Scott and Derek were close to me, looking at me.
My tears stopped flowing, and I felt nothing. I felt no pain, no guilt, nothing. I slowly stood as I wiped the tears that stained my cheek. "Well, the secrets out. I'm a vampire, and there is such things. You're all not educated enough in the supernatural world," I chuckled slightly, as their expressions were confused. "I'm hungry as well," I replied my eyes cast to Derek. I smiled, devilishly as I flash my true face at him and the rest of them.
Before he know what was happening, I had clamped down on his neck, biting him and sucking his blood. I sucked on his neck as he was no match for me, I felt Scott's hands place on my shoulder to shake me off. But I thrusted my hand out to him, hitting his chest and making him go flying across the way.
I leaned back after a moment, relishing in the energy and the taste of warm blood from the vein. Oh, how I've missed it. I threw Derek away like he was a toy. Blood dripped down my chin and fell to the floor as I fed sloppy. My gaze went to all of them standing there, their expressions horrified.
"The Monsters out," I replied smugly, as I vamp-sped away, not allowing them to get a word in...
This is going to be fun...
