I whip around to come face to face with a young boy who I can only assume has a few years older than me. He stares back at me calm yet alert eyes, and a perplexed look, I pause before I attempt to flick the gun from his grip. With tousled dark hair falling into his eyes, lightly tattooed, muscular arms peeking out from under his tight tank and a healthy amount of stubble he seems less of a threat than anyone else we have encountered. But so far I haven't exactly had the best judgment.

"And who do you think you are, walking around here like you own the place?" Asks the boy in a thick Australian accent. I glance back at Tate who shrugs and set his fists alight in hope that the boy would cower away from eccentric powers and leave us be, but instead we get the opposite response.

"Oh wow, I'm terrified," he says sarcastically and steps toward us. "Maybe I should pull out some marshmallows for us to roast on that pathetic excuse of a fire." He laughs and looks over at me for a reaction that I don't dare give him. Tate glares at the boy, then steps out into the clearing where he sets his entire body on alight, careful not to allow the flames go loose in the log cabin. The boy laughs and takes a step outside to meet Tate where he places his gun in the waist band of his jeans ready for a fight of a different kind. He throws a wink in my direction than rises his hands above his head in a manner I have seen too many times to count.

"You call those powers?" He asks and brings his hands into forced fists, "I'll show you powers." Before Tate can even register what is happening, storm clouds form on the horizon then spread over the clearing in an unnatural matter. Suddenly, a crackle sounds in the distance and rain begins to seep from the clouds in heavy droplets. The boys an Elemental. A strong one at that. I step back under the cover of the log cabin and watch in dread as Tate's fire sizzles and hisses, too weak to put up a fight.

"Look man, we're not here to fight you, we just need a place to stay," shouts Tate over the rumbles of thunder but the boy has no mercy left. We have had our chance for discussion and we have wasted it.

A huge crackle sounds above our heads and I know what is coming next. I scream out to Tate as I sense the sudden increase of electricity in the air and watch in horror as the boy brings his arms down in rage beckoning one of the most dangerous forces in the natural world. I jump out from the covering into the rain and watch in slow motion as a huge bolt of lightning is summoned from the sky through the boy's powers and heads straight toward Tate. Before I can think through my actions, I sprint toward him and slam into his side, pushing him out of its way. The small bolt of lightning hits the ground, missing us by meters and sends out a huge wave of electricity through the air and that's when the boy realises his mistake. He has made this ten times easier for me. We make eye contact while I begin to absorb the electricity before it can have its effects on those around us and smile at the boy as summoning powers from the natural energy he created.

"What do we have here? A Spark. Aw, Cute." He smirks at me and summons sudden strong winds to add to the effects of the rain. Purple, white sparks crackle at my fingertips as my anger for the arrogant boy grows though I still struggle to see through the rain.

"Oh, how I wish it was that simple," I say and step toward him. "But you see, I'm not just a Spark. I'm something else entirely." With the flick of a hand I send tiny bolts of electricity toward the boy but they don't make it far through the torrential downfall, fading into nothingness before they even manage to leave me hand. The boy chuckles and strengths his effects on the weather causing the rain in get heavier and the winds to get stronger, angering me more.

"Stop this and face me like a man," I shout through the downfall and wipe at my eyes as I struggle to find him through the rain but it makes little difference. If only I could loosen his effects on the weather.

"Did you hear me? I said stop the rain!" I repeat and send pathetic sparks out around me as the shower gets heaver. I struggle to breathe as the air around me becomes wet with rain and I drop to the ground in a fit of pants and heaves. Stop it. Stop. Stop.

"Stop!" I scream, throwing my hands above my head. Suddenly, I feel a new power surge through me, making its way up my arms and out through my fingers into the sky in invisible waves of energy. Slowly but steadily the rain reduces to a light shower then to almost nothing. I continue to throw all my energy on the waves that shoot into the sky, focusing on reducing the rain as the boy stands behind me, watching in awe. It isn't until the rain clouds disappear allowing the sunlight to shine through once again that I finally allow myself to take a breath, feeling a sense of pride.

I push myself up from the ground and search for Tate, trying to remember where I had lost him in the rain until I finally spot him looking just as confused as I am a few meters away. He gives me a weak smile and I recall everything he has been through today, feeling a sense of guilt. I then turn to face the boy who stares at me in shock.

"Well played, Sparky. I'm Harley, Harley Walker," He smiles at me and reaches out to shake my hand but I turn away for him and start walking toward Tate. "I don't know how you did that, but you have got to teach me," he mumbles, walking after me.

"What she just did is not something that can be taught," mumbles Tate as he coughs up a decent amount of water and leans against the log cabin for support. "What I was trying to say before was that all we needed is a place to stay, not a fight."

"Hey, hey, hey, you were the one who came at me with flaming fists." Justifies Harley with his hands up in defeat. "You should have just started with that instead of threatening me."

"You held us at gun point!" exclaims Tate, sending a ripple of heat through the air in anger. Harley steps away from the other boy but I stand my ground, used to Tate's uncontrollable outbursts.

Tate, let's try and be civil here... I send to Tate, swapping my newly formed powers for a safer option.

"Civil?" Scoffs Tate, "Did you just see what he did to us?" Tate exclaims, earning a confused look from Harley.

"Regardless of who did what, we still need a place to stay," I add, looking over at Harley who smiles back at me.

As if we are staying with him. What is she thinking? I sense Tate's accidental thoughts but push them away, focusing on Harley's response.

"Well when you ask like that," he raises his eye brows in Tate's direction, clearly testing him, "Of course you can. It's just the two of you right?" He asks glancing between us.

"About that..." I start, knowing he won't be impressed to know about our makeshift group of survivors hiding in the treeline.
