chapter seventy seven
(Third person pov:)
Ebon-shi, Asadelf, Tully, Serana, Shadow-step, and Sabrina arrived at the docks of Windhelm heading towards the East empire company office to meet the imperial agents. When they knocked on the door after a few moments and imperial man opened the door looking up at them with a skeptical look.
"Greetings, I'm here looking for the two legionnaires who were sent here by the empire to help settle the issue with the pirates these are my comrades they came to help." Tully spoke crossing his arms in front of him before the imperial nodded before speaking. "It's good to meet you all my name is Orthus Endario I run the East empire company office here. The two agents you speak of are inside please come in." He spoke leading the group in the back room where two imperial soldiers were sitting one was a imperial woman with white hair who seemed to be in her early forties.
"Greetings you must be Tully, I've heard so much about you from General Tullius your name is legend in the legion and I heard about what happened, please accept my deepest sympathies. My name is Adelaisa Vendicci it's a pleasure to work with you sir." She said formally as the other imperial soldier stood up walking up to Tully before offering a hand. "I haven't seen you since fort Dunstad in the pale, it's good to see you old friend"the imperial wearing the covered imperial helmet spoke as the two handed Warhammer the champions cudgel proudly holstered on his back. "It's good to see you too Centurion, let's get down to business shall we?" Tully asked as they nodded and sat down as the group spread out making sure the coast was clear while also ensuring the walls didn't have ears. " Alright, General Talia said that you would explain in detail what you discovered, so what did you find out?" Tully asked as Adelaisa nodded before giving her report. "Yes indeed, we asked around the docs and it seems like the family called the Shatter-shields also run a delivery service, and it seems like they have a lot to gain from these pirate attacks as it seems like only they're good remain untouched." Adelaisa reported in a formal and disciplined manner that was common practice in the legion while Centurion stayed where he was with his arms crossed. "If we could get evidence that the Shatter-shields were indeed behind the that would make things much easier, if someone could break into their store room and bring their log book we could see if they documented anything." Centurion said as Shadow-step stepped up twirling and ebony dagger in his black leather gloved hands. "No need to worry, I will be back in two shakes of a Skooma Moonsugar cocktail." He said before quietly walking out the front door which caused the two Imperial legionnaires and the entrepreneur to exchange uncertain looks with each other before Tully set them at ease by speaking up. "Don't worry about a thing, when it comes to infiltration Shadow-step is the best of the best, he'll be back soon." Tully reassured while they sat and talked before five minutes later Shadow-step returned walking over reaching into his satchel and pulling out the log book and setting it on the table. "Well I'll be, you really weren't exaggerating when you said your friend here was The very Best of the Best." Adelaisa said clearly impressed as Orthus took the log book and started reading through it reading it aloud for the six renegades and the two imperial agents to hear and understand the full situation.
"Private property of Suvaris Atheron, please return to him in Windhelm if found.
Journal for months of last seed, year 201 of the fourth era
1st of last seed, spoke with master Torbjorn in the morning. Please with projects to increase competitiveness of shipping office. Spent an afternoon overseeing offices and various paperworks. Moderate lunch and healthy dinner.
2nd of last seed, punished one of the dock workers for laziness. 2 days of rations empty stomach means less good work for a few days, but he'll work hard from here on out moderate lunch and dinner.
3rd of last seed, correspondence with Uncle Mithorpa in morrowind. Sadness continues to abound flowing west. Light lunch, no dinner.
4th of last seed, reports that are pirate friends are offering to let the company ships through in exchange for gold. Will need to look into this. heavy lunch and dinner.
5th of last seed, tried to get in to see master Torbjorn about the potential issues, but he proved too busy tending to his wife and daughter in morning. Did not wish to intrude. Skip to lunch (waiting at the Shatter-shield house), moderate dinner.
6th of last seed, explained situation to master Torbjorn . As usual he did not wish to know details, only how much money I needed to ensure smooth operations. I depart now for dawnstar, hoping to catch the captain at the windpeak for his crews regular "festivities" heavy lunch, skipped dinner in favor of packing.
7th of last seed, beginning journey. Plan to be back by the 12th.
15th of last seed, returned safely, though not unscathed. Bandit attacks delayed the initial travel, then Stig Salt-plank proved to be more uncooperative than I had hoped. Chipped in some additional gold out of my own purse (some cleverness in the books will see it repaid) and the deal was done. Ate on the road, light meals all around.
16th of last seed, hoping word gets back to Stig's betters of our new arrangements before more company ships can make it through. Found the argonians had completely fouled up the operations in my absence. No surprise, there. Need to see to the old ones skooma supply, that should keep them motivated. Heavy lunch and dinner."
Orthus finished reading the journal as the six individuals exchanged glances with the imperial soldiers all giving a knowing nod. "No need to go all the way to dawnstar to find out who this Stig Salt-plank is or who he is working for, I know who this is and I know exactly who it is he works for."Sabrina said crossing her arms with a serious expression on her face which caught both Orthus's and Adelaisa's attention before she continued. "Those 'betters' that the journal referred to is a bandit group calling themselves the Blood Horkers. And they are nobody to trifle with especially the battle mage who is their leader." Sabrina said as Shadow-step was about to take the log book back to the office before Adelaisa called out to him. "Hey wait let me take that back to Solitude with me, we can use it as evidence that the Shatter-shield's were the ones who were preventing the East empire company ships from bringing supplies through this could be useful in case things go political." Adelaisa said as the Nightingale khajiit nodded before handing the log book to her which she promptly took and put into her bag. "Sabrina what can you tell us about the Blood Horkers, any information at all would be great." Ebon-shi said speaking in his usual gentle yet firm manner as he was a firm believer of the phrase "know thyself and know thy enemy" Sabrina nodded before continuing. "Well I can't tell you much about them other than what I've learned during my days as a pirate however I am very familiar with where they are currently based at least as far as I remember they may have moved since then, but last time I checked they operated a fort east of here in the middle of the ocean called Japhet's Folly as far as I remember that was their main base of operations." Sabrina said as Orthus spoke up to confirm her story. "That checks out, because where the ship from the East empire company has to come through it has to go right past that fort which means if they're not there they are somewhere nearby therefore I think it would be best for you to investigate that fort." Orthus said as both Centurion who was standing there quietly, and Adelaisa both nodded before standing up. "Very well we will leave for Japhet's Folly at once." Adelaisa said before walking to the door "hey Sabrina do you know the name of the battle mage who runs the Blood Horkers?" Asadelf spoke looking up at her as Sabrina nodded. "Yes I heard his name was Haldyn and he is a battle mage of very high caliber." Sabrina said as the group walked towards the large wooden ship that Adelaisa prepared as we boarded. "Haldyn? Yes I've heard of the man but I never thought he would join up with some pirates, this could be more dangerous than I thought we better be careful moving forward let's go we will plan our assault on the way." Adelaisa spoke with authority as she led the six onto the boat as a unit of imperial soldiers stood at attention seeing the commander. "Soldiers, is everything prepared for a full scale assault?" Centurion asked as they nod and the sergeant spoke in a disciplined tone. " Yes sir" The sergeant said before seeing Tully and the others before giving a condescending sigh. "Hey sergeant prepare for an all out attack on Japhet's Folly and wipe out te Blood Horkers." Centurion said noting the sergeant behavior as Tully sat down with the others getting ready as Sabrina walked around the boat and silently inspecting the structural integrity of the hull as the boat started moving out of the docks. "Sabrina how's it looking?" Tully asked as Sabrina spoke calmly while crossing her arms. "Everything looks fine, assuming we don't run into any rocks or chunks of ice we should be fine." Sabrina said while the sergeant gave a sneer. "Very good, all right I would advise we move carefully we don't know our enemy numbers so it will be best if we move from a distance." Tully spoke before the sergeant cut him off. "Look citizen this is imperial business, you civilians should just sit down and be quiet while the actual soldiers do their job." The sergeant said before Centurion stormed over getting right in the Sergeant's face. "Oh so you deem yourself above This 'citizen' do you?" Centurion spoke in a calm civil manner as the sergeant spoke arrogantly. "Of course he's a civilian, they have no business interfering with imperial business we should just throw them off they're just going to get in the way." The sergeant said before the Centurion nodded before picking him up by his studded imperial armor and threw him into the icy water. "All right soldier swim and catch up with the boat double time!" Centurion ordered his voice firm and commanding as the sergeant swim for his life before tiring just as he caught the boat before Centurion reached down grabbing the sergeant by the collar of his studded armor and threw him on to the deck before looking down at him. "Tell me sergeant, how did you like going through that cold water?" Centurion asked his voice cold and demanding as the sergeant still shivering from the cold temperatures of the water stuttered out before Centurion cut him off "T-t-t-TODAY SERGEANT!" Centurion shouted before the sergeant spoke. "It was horrific, the temperature of the cold water threatened to numb my limbs and it felt like a thousand knives stabbing me all at once, I thought I was about to lose feeling in my body." The sergeant said before Centurion nodded and then pointed at Tully with a tone of pure disapproval for the Sergeant's attitude. "Good now bear that in mind, because that man you just disrespected, walked seven miles in a blizzard that was twice as cold as this water, after that job he put myself in the other four remaining living members of our platoon as well as the corpses of our fallen comrades, on top of the seized weapons we took from the stormcloak rebels weapon camp, and he couldn't ride on his horse, because he had myself and the other four living soldiers on his horse and he had to tread through the snow next to his horse for seven fucking miles in a blizzard all the way back to solitude. Don't you dare disrespect this man again because he has done more not just for the legion but for his fellow soldiers then you could have done in three lifetimes even if he isn't a part of the legion anymore because of his honorable discharge, he is still to this day one of the most decorated and honored members of the legion because of what he did that day, now sit down and shut up and General Tullius will be hearing about this when we return to Solitude." Centurion said before walking over to Tully and putting his hand on his shoulder. "I am so sorry for the sergeants disrespect I will make sure that he is properly disciplined when we return to solitude you have my word and I will see to it personally." Centurion said anger and malice dripping on his every word. "Don't focus on that right now Centurion, focus on the job ahead business first personal last." Tully said they exited the river that led to Windhelm docks and entered the open ocean.
