chapter ninety four

The Ebony Renegades aboard the pirate ship the Dead Man's Dread immediately drew their weapons as Gila quickly climbed up the mast up to the crow's nest using her claws to easily climb up before sitting up in the crow's nest and pulling out her makeshift telescope. "It's not Thalmor, it looks like an East Empire Company cargo vessel." Gila called down as she slid back down as the ship seemed to be going around them, heading towards the direction of Windhelm. Seeing the East Empire Company vessel going the other way, the group immediately relaxed as they continued their conversation. "Anyway, back on to what I was saying before the interruption, from what I can recall, and feel free to correct me on this Ebon-shi, but it was during the eruption of Red Mountain when everything happened?" Gentu asked as Ebon-shi shook his head "No it was not long before it could be debated that it was the root cause of the eruption of the Red Mountain but I wasn't present when it happened so I couldn't say for certain." Ebon-shi said as Lianya spoke "if you don't mind me asking boss, what happened during that time since I was asleep for the entirety." Lianya and Ebon-shi nodded before interlocking his fingers in front of him before speaking. "The fall of the sixth house, house Dagoth, also referred to as the tribe unmourned. During the events of the mid-third era, if I remember correctly, the Nereverine was a dunmer prophecy. The head of the house Dagoth, a dunmer called Dagoth Ur, constructed a plague called Corprus, which would essentially make everyone have a hive mind with Dagoth Ur at the helm. He got his hands on the heart of Lorikon, the heart of a long-dead God, and attempted to make his version of the Dwemers Numidium that he called Akulakhan." Ebon-shi said as Zed spoke up. "Yeah I've heard of the Numidium, from what the reports say and stories that I've heard it's supposed to be a thousand feet tall and shaped like a dwarven centurion but colossal, apparently Tiber Septim or Talos as he's more commonly called today used it after he took it under Imperial control from Morrowind and used it to bring peace to all of Tamriel but then the thing was destroyed," Zed spoke as he recounted what he knew or remembered from what he heard and read about. Gentu followed up by confirming what Zed said while he was gently tinkering with his mechanical arm and tightening its tension. "The plan was thwarted in 3E 427 by the Nerevarine, and as a result, the Heart of Lorkhan seemingly vanished from Tamriel," Gentu spoke as he looked up from what he was doing looking over at Ebon-shi to make sure he didn't get any details wrong. "Yes, it was after that the tribunal lost its divinity and became a mortal again," Ebon-shi said as he rubbed his fingers through his long black hair before popping his neck. "If you want to know more about the tribunal, you'll have to talk to my sister. If we see her, she knows more about the tribunal than I do, and for all I know, I could have gotten a lot of details wrong more likely than not." Ebon-shi admitted rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly once again, proving that while he was the leader of the renegades, he wasn't perfect, and even he could make mistakes and didn't have all the answers. As they continued sailing throughout the Sea of Ghosts under the gorgeous moon they continued eating and talking on the deck of the ship. "Hey I just had a thought, if the Numidium scared the crap out of the Aldmeri Dominion when Tiber Septim had it, imagine the look on the Thalmor's arrogant faces if we dropped one of those in the Summerset isles!" Suvvan yelled out as he laughed, eating a piece of crab that was completely saturated with cheese. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of the waves brushing up against the sides of the ship and the ice chunks bumping up against the frame of the pirate vessel. "I don't know what's scarier, you cheese-obsessed madman, what you said or the fact that you said it," Lianya said with an amused smile, however, the look on everyone's faces seemed to be in both shock and agreement. "If we could get our hands on the original or, better yet, make our own, we could outright mop the floor with the Dominion without breaking a sweat. However, there's a problem if they somehow got their hands on it, it would be a powerful weapon against us. So if we were to make it we would need to ensure that we were the only ones who would be able to use it similar to how the imperial battle mage made the amulet for Tiber Septim so he could control the Numidium when he had it, but it would also require a significant power source much like the Heart of Lorkhan." Gentu mused aloud his good arm up against his chin as he was deep in thought. "It would need to be a power source of tremendous volume, without the Heart of Lorkhan or anything of the sort we would need to make a core by hand which will be no easy task because you're talking about creating a vital catalyst of power of such a high caliber and potency that the likelihood of it going wrong is almost guaranteed." Asadelf said, putting her hand up to her head, deep in thought. "For a mechanism of that size, one would need to factor in the size of the being, times how powerful it has to be, and then multiply it by allowing it to be fully autonomous, while also having the corresponding weapons systems and balancers to stop it from falling over on itself or the weapons misfiring." Zed said, going over some of his notes on what he knew about the Numidium and how he theorized it worked. "Indeed, something powerful like a centurion Dynamo core, or perhaps something like the core I pulled out of the dwarven Colossus back in Muzan zol.. if only we could get our hands on a powerful artifact that we could use for a catalyst that would make things so much easier." Gentu mused aloud crossing his arms and tapping his chin with his mechanical hand. "Something like the eye of Magnus would be excellent, but unfortunately the Psijicc order has it, so to get a hold of a powerful artifact it would have to be one either we make ourselves, or it's one that they don't know about.. but from what that mage from the Synod that I met in Mzulft they found a way to track powerful magic items by using the ocular lens in the dwarven ruin." Asadelf said, crossing her arms, seeming to be deep in thought. "But by going back there wouldn't we be technically retracing our steps going back towards our headquarters? I mean wouldn't that be risky with the Gilded Lions on our tail?" Zed asked looking up from his crab leg that he was about to bite into. "Indeed but it would be a guaranteed way to locate a powerful artifact." Asadelf said solemnly acknowledging the risk of running into the Thalmor elite unit. "Wait a moment isn't there a very significant dwarven ruin on Solstheim?" Gila asked before she took a drink of squeezed apple juice. "To my knowledge during my days of living there, I believe there are three." Ebon-shi said rubbing the bridge of his nose before he took a bite of the crab leg. "It may be most rewarding to consider paying those ruins a visit; we might find something useful or some knowledge, who knows, maybe, just maybe, we might find the heart of Lorikon, hahaha, or the remains of Dagoth Ur's Akulakhan if we could study that we could maybe reverse engineer it." Gentu spoke running his finger along his jawbone. "Let's think about it tomorrow, we should all get some sleep tonight, does anybody else know how to sail a ship?" Ebon-shi asked as everyone shook their heads since none of them were familiar with sailing. "Don't worry about it, we are nearby dawnstar, we can take refuge on one of the islands overnight and then we can continue on our way." Sabrina said as the group nodded except for Shadow-step, Tully, and Serana who decided to stay up with Sabrina to make sure she wasn't alone and didn't fall asleep at the helm. Meanwhile the rest of the group helped collect all the remaining food and took it all back down to the galley of the kitchen to make sure it was all put away and preserved for tomorrow for breakfast. Because of how fast they were moving on the ship they would arrive on Solstheim in two days. "Sabrina, is it okay if I use the blacksmithing room to work on my arm tighten the connections?" Gentu asked as Sabrina nodded signifying it was okay. "You don't need to ask, if you need to use anything aboard this vessel feel free I have nothing to hide from any of you." Sabrina replied with a smile as she kept her eyes straight ahead after about twenty minutes they made their way past the dawnstar and took a sharp left circling around a large island with what appeared to be a Nordic structure at the peak. "Land ho Yngvild dead ahead, prepare to drop anchor!" Sabrina called out from the helm as Zed and Erin started cranking the winch once they were close enough to the land in order to drop the anchor. The snowy island of Yngvild was covered with ice wraith's as A small group of four consisting of Lianya, Bowen, Vladbram, and Erin walked down the gangplank Lianya pulling out Aureils shield and sword, Bowen pulling out Stendarr's hammer, Vladbram pulling out his crossbow, and Erin pulling out his crusader mace and crusader shield as they charged up in order to take care of the ice wraith infestation. Lianya shield bashed one of the frosty wyrms that came close to her before driving Auriel's sword in a straight thrust into the head of one of them causing it to burst into light blue dust on the ground. Bowen smashed the head of the massive Warhammer into another one of the frost vermin causing it to explode into a mess on the ground while Vladbram fired his crossbow quickly using exploding steel bolts of fire to cause maximum damage to the frost creatures, meanwhile Erin upon killing each and every spectral frost creature uttered a small apology and prayed for their safe passage to the next life. "May Arkay see you through to your next life poor creatures." Erin spoke with such reverence as soon as they finished cleaning up the ice wraith infestation they carefully scoured the rest of the island to make sure there were no other enemies lying in weight only for a female ghost to warn them off. "No, please turn back, your women aren't safe here, 'He' will kill you then bind your soul to him to satisfy his carnal appetite please leave this place!" The ghost pleaded as Erin walked forward before placing both of his hands on her ghosty shoulders. "Calm yourself my child, I show free you now you shall suffer no longer." Erin said as the ghost drops to her knees while Erin performed the ceremonial funeral rite. "We will get this necromancer who caused yourself and your companions such suffering, and will you still see to it that they are sent off and freed from there burden." Lianya said with a gentle tone as Erin finished the rite as the ghost vanished disappearing before a tranquil smile crept up her face in her final moments on the plane of nirn her expression was one of relief. "All right we're going inside and we are putting an end to this necromancer, and killing anything that gets between us and our target let's go.. this travesty will not stand any longer." Lianya said as Vladbram, Bowen, and Erin all nodded in agreement as Lianya ran over to the ship to tell someone what was going on and let them know where they were going. Ebon-shi turned his head to look at his snow elf comrade before nodding his head and replied to her his voice gentle yet firm at the same time. "Alright be careful, if you four are not back in an hour we are going in after you swords drawn." Ebon-shi implied with a gentle smile reassuring her that for whatever reason she wasn't back within an hour her comrades would be at her side. "Thank you Ebon-shi, I will make sure that no matter what happens we get back safely." Lianya replied with a smile as she nodded and ran back over to the other three before they made their way inside of the Nordic burial site of Yngvild.
