chapter ninety five.
(Lianya: pov)
I led the way into the frozen corridor of Yngvild with Bowen, Vladbram, and Erin falling behind me as we passed frozen sarcophaguses, many of which were empty with signs of being broken into from the outside telltale signs of grave robbers. As we continued our way in moving through the icy corridor I used the reflective edge of Chillrend to look around corners to see if anything was nearby. After walking, we eventually came out into an open room with a wooden platform and a ramp that went down to a lower level. I could see another sarcophagus off to the left, along with skeletons on the ground and a potion on a table, which I took. As we continued making our way forward my long ears perked up as I heard movement out of reflex I pulled my bow off of my back only for Vladbram to stop me from connecting an exploding steel bolt of fire into his crossbow before firing it at the draugr causing the undead along with the one behind it to explode and go down without a fight. I turned my head slightly giving him an approving nod as judgment and execution of a flawless technique as we continued forward. As we continued walking we came to a fork in the road a path leading left in another path leading right after a brief silent communication with the three gentlemen behind me we agreed to go left first which we did make our way down the path when we came around I saw the specter of a woman standing in front of a table before we could do anything another ghost along with another draugr came around the corner resulting in a confrontation which I would have preferred to avoid. Vladbram stepped forward pulling off his Dawnguard rune shield, and the corresponding axe as he took care of the Draugr while myself, Bowen, and Erin took care of the ghosts. I pulled off my iceblade of the monarch as I clashed with one of the ghosts; meanwhile, Bowen and Erin took care of the other one. As they were starting to get exhausted from the cold apparently not used to being so close to Sub-Zero temperatures, nodding and understanding I quickly held my shield and sword off before I bashed the ghost with my shield before delivering a potent light spell which was specially designed to repel ghosts and other undead a little trick I picked up from one of the books Sabrina had on her ship a technique that I wish I knew back in the stone garden with those dwarven ghosts. The moment the light came into contact with the ghosts, they immediately retreated as I leaned up against the wall, having underestimated just how much magic that would take out of me. I immediately felt Erin rush over, putting his arm around my waist and bringing my arm over his back as he walked me over to the table so I could sit down. I gave him a grateful nod; however, that was when I noticed that there was a book that looked freshly written. "Look at this, this journal was new which means either these ghosts have been looting caravans, or there's somebody here who brought this with them.." I said my eyes narrowing as I picked up the journal and started to read it.
Arondil's journal
Day 1: it seems the Cretans of Dawnstar are not quite as foolish as I surmised; they found my experimentations, and needless to say, we're not pleased with what they saw. No matter. My work can only flourish without the distractions of living amongst the unenlightened.
I have found a cave off the North Coast of Skyrim that will be more than sufficient for my continued studies. The ruins of Yngvild should hold the materials I need to learn more about reanimating and enslaving the dead. On a personal note. I WILL miss the young maidens of Dawnstar. Such beauty was intoxication. I often found my thoughts wandering around them imagining secret encounters between myself and one or two of the local girls..."
I let out a sigh of irritation as my fist clenched that there was one thing I despised, which was necromancy; although from a moral standpoint as a practical standpoint, I could understand why it would be desirable. However, it was morally wrong but tactfully effective in certain cases. "That scum, reanimating the dead for his own carnal desires, by the nine as my witness we shall strike him down," Erin spoke gripping Chrysamere tightly in his hands as I nodded in agreement as we continue moving going further down the hallway we looked around and finally another cavern with more empty sarcophaguses allowing us to have a pretty good guess where those draugr came from. We rounded back, heading back down the other corridor, making our way down, moving back to back with Erin walking behind me and Bowen walking behind Vladbram. As we continued down, we spotted another ghost. I gulped down one of the restore magic potions I had before using the light spell again to repel it. I was surprised that it didn't take as much out of me as it did before so I surmised it was because my body was getting used to using it. We continued our way further down into the rui, crushing more undead and a ghost in our walk,e moving swiftly and effectively, making sure we annihilated the scourge of the undead on our way down to confront The necromancer calling himself Arondil. Eventually, we came across another one of the Damned Necromancers journals, and I braced myself for what I was about to read.
"Arondil's journal
day 8: I have established a temporary workstation in the cold caves, and have found multiple burial chambers within the snow and ice. While in the first chamber, I assumed a few test subjects were all female. I was stunned to find my mind wandering again to the women of Dawnstar as I examined my find. At first, I was slightly disturbed by my thoughts, but later, I found myself reevaluating.
Day 9: the first trials went splendidly. Each subject was reanimated in a state of total complacency, bending to my every task and whim. I have ordered a few of my new servants to guard the island, while the rest will act as my personal entourage, standing by me at all times. Standing watch over me while I sleep..."
As I continued reading I couldn't help but feel the urge to vomit at the disgusting and upright revolting implications I was reading. As we looked at each other we nodded in agreement as we continued making our way deeper into the ruin I carefully pulled off my scepter since that would be the most effective against undead and if I kept using that light spell I would collapse from exhaustion and I was not going to give the damned necromancer the satisfaction of finding me prone and helpless. As we continued to delve deeper into the ruin, moving back to back and me using my scepter to obliterate the undead on contact, we eventually found the third journal, which I dreaded reading. Vladbram was kind enough to do it for me as I picked up the journal and started moving it.
"Arondil's journal.
Day 21: an intriguing development tonight. My guards have brought me a trespasser they found near the cave. At first, I was understandably upset. Not only was I Disturbed during one of my few moments alone with my favorite servant, but I recognized the trespasser as a milkmaid from Dawnstar. She remembered me, as well, and made bold claims that I had been lurking near her at all hours. What lies! True, I had taken notice of her on occasion, but she was nowhere near the most noticeable of maidens in town. Her continued accusations, coupled with my fear of more uninvited guests, led me to conclude that she could never return to Dawnstar. My servants were quick to carry out my sentencing. Her body is here next to me as I write this. Funny. Her eyes are still full of life. Perhaps I will try a new experiment tonight using fresher materials."
As Vladbram finished reading, looking around, we all had the same expression, disgust, anger, and a raging urge for Justice. We continued on our way before we came to a door that led into the throne room as I gave the three behind me a look they all gave a corresponding unified nod signifying they were ready as I nodded back as we entered the throne room making our way down through the corridor hugging the walls with Vladbram going up front sweeping the corridors with his crossbow like Severin did before he held up his hand signifying for us to come to a stop.
Upon peering down into the room, I was able to see The necromancer sitting on his throne with a bound ghost to his right-hand side with a single soul gem on the left. "That woman's soul is bound to the soul gem, I say we give her the satisfaction she deserves if we were to remove that soul gem from the pedestal, then she would no longer be bound and she could kill him herself I believe that would be the perfect retribution for the lost soul as well as for all the ensnared souls in this place," Bowen said gripping his amulet of Stendarr. I gave a nod of agreement before coming up with a plan. "All right, you three, stay here; I'll draw his attention once his attention is on me as well as the ghost. I want you three to sneak around and remove the soul gem, and that ghost will immediately turn on him."I said as the three gave a nod of agreement, staying hidden as I descended the stairs. The necromancer Arondil looked up at me as a twisted grin crept up his face as he spoke. " Ah, another plaything for my collection," Arondil said as he stood up, pulling out a staff as well as an orcish dagger while the ghost came at me. Out of retaliation I summoned two frost atronachs for support as I pulled my shield and Aureils sword off my side just like I was expecting The necromancer and his pet focused solely on me unaware of Bowen, Vladbram, and Erin creeping around the other side ready to seize the soul gem. All it took to send the pair of flying was a simple shield bash from my shield causing a shockwave to be released and sending both of them flying backward just as Bowen took the soul gem and almost immediately the ghost turned on her master taking his own orcish dagger and driving it straight into his genitals I smiled seeing the girl get her retribution as the rest of the ghosts that he had enslaved all converged on him and began their ruthless retribution upon him knowing full well that he wouldn't survive the encounter I looked up at Bowen who had just smashed the soul gem with his large hammer we made our way into the back room where we found another ghost laying in a twin bed and we also found another one of those damned journals. I bit my lip before walking over and picking up the journal as the ghost just wandered off to assist in the retribution going on in the next room. I could still hear the necromancer screaming and pleading, but I felt no sympathy for him; he was getting exactly what he deserved.
Arondil's journal
Day 28: The new experiment has proven a success! The milk maid (who's [sic] [Do not change this to whose. This misspelled word is how it appears in-game.] name still escapes me) was revived as the others, bowing to my commands, with only one interesting development. She has reformed incorporeally, more phantasm than reanimated dead. As her glowing visage stood before me, I found my hand reaching out to touch her. As my fingers passed through her, I felt a sensation unlike any other, as if her essence were invigorating my very soul, connecting with me on a level no woman of flesh and blood could do. This discovery is life-changing!
Day 35: I have ordered my older servants to go out and find any more subjects that may have become lost. With the discovery of the inner sanctum deeper still within Yngvild, I should have sufficient room to store many new materials until I can transform them into willing slaves. I look back on my daydreams whilst living in Dawnstar and wonder if they were, in fact, portents of time to come..."
As I finished reading the entry, I couldn't bear it anymore, and I immediately couldn't hold back the urge to vomit anymore as I felt the acidic fluid coming up my throat I immediately heaved and vomited on the twin bed. The food that I had eaten earlier came out the front in large chunks as the acidic aftertaste burned my throat. "Ms Lianya, are you all right?" Erin asked me as I slowly turned my head to him before giving a gentle nod and making a hand gesture with my hand telling them to search the place and I didn't dare drink anything that was in this room.
