Chapter Two
**✿❀ Chapter Two ❀✿**
The next morning Freya woke to her head crashed down on the keyboard of her laptop. She'd had many dreams during her slumber, but none of which she could remember clearly.
Her eyes gazed down at the blonde highlights in her messy light brown hair and she sighed. Freya took her phone from beside her and sent a text to Jack, telling him she'd be late for work.
She claimed she had a doctor's appointment. The woman couldn't admit that what she was actually doing was breaking all of the rules and going in search of a missing person. Alone.
Jack would never allow it, as a boss, nor as a friend.
She dressed herself in her black suit - something she was forced to wear for work. It consisted of a black blazer, a white blouse, black trousers and some black heels.
The heels allowed her to catch up to her colleague's heights a little better. Not that she was short. In fact, people referred to her as tall; those long legs that seemed to go on forever. But she was the only female employee.
Ironing out her clothes with her hands, Freya ran downstairs and grabbed a cereal bar to eat on her journey. She was keen to get out as early as possible.

Freya drove down the roads to Alana's place of death. Ever since the murder it had been the home to endless bunches of flowers.
Freya couldn't comprehend how somebody could possibly be so loved. She'd never been one to fit in. She was the kind of person who tried to please everybody but ended up with nobody in the end. She could never figure out why.
Alana, on the other hand, seemed to be spoken highly of by the whole village. Yet she'd still ended up dead? Freya wondered if maybe being invisible was a good thing right now. Her accidental superpower that she hated so intently could finally be of some use.
Then there was the woman missing; Marcia. People spoke about her like they did Alana and that alone caused goosebumps to prick up on Freya's skin. The blonde hair, the blue eyes, a heart of gold.
She'd never been part of an investigation where the victim was this seemingly innocent before.
Freya sat in her car for a moment or two, staring out at the ditch beside the road. This would have been far easier if she wasn't so new to the area.
Eventually she hopped out of the car, full of her usual energy. She wasn't this kind of detective. She knew she'd never be good at it. She was too loud on her feet; not careful at all.
Her eyes grazed the area of flowers as she crouched down to get a better look. Carmen had been adamant that Marcia had planned to visit this exact spot.
She was about to sigh and lift herself up when her eyes halted at the sight of a dirty pierce of card. Freya scratched the dirt away only to find an address of a place just outside the village. The business card wasn't like any she'd seen before. It said nothing other than the address.
Knowing it was likely nothing, Freya pushed it into the pocket of her blazer and ran back to her car.
She sat in silence for minutes, something you wouldn't catch her doing often. Freya liked to be surrounded by sound, but this silence was good for her brain.
Coming to no other conclusion of what to do next, Freya put the address she'd found into her Sat Nav and followed the instructions out of the village.

The warehouse Freya ended up at didn't look normal. She didn't allow her car to park beside it for more than a second before she drove it away again and parked a couple of streets down.
It was out of Porthcawl and past Nottage. It felt like the middle of nowhere, with nothing much there other than the warehouse, a cemetery and some country lanes. The main road that linked them was busy enough but it was still the middle of nowhere compared to what Freya was used to. She'd never seen so many green fields.
"What better time to pull up at some creepy warehouse than sunrise?" Freya laughed to herself as she got out of her car. The sky was turning all kinds of shades of pink and orange, distracting her for a moment or two.
She was easily distracted, even when she had a job to do.
Freya walked hesitantly back to the warehouse, keeping an eye out for any wandering people. She was probably here for nothing and her brain was well aware of that, but she'd spend a short time searching the place anyway.
Her eyes grasped onto movement the other side of the warehouse. Her feet almost faltered as she slowly stepped away, carefully making sure for once that her shoes didn't make a sound as her heels clipped the ground.
Then Freya's mind asked her what she was doing. She'd come here to see who these people were, not to back away as soon as she caught a glimpse.
Freya took a deep breath and stepped dubiously around the building, urging herself closer but only so much that she'd be able to hear them. That was one of her good points, she did have great senses when it came to both sight and hearing.
"What do we do with the bitch?" she heard one man ask.
"She heard us talking, we can't let her go," a second voice said. Freya couldn't see them, but their voice sounded more feminine. They were standing just behind the corner of the warehouse so there was no chance Freya would be able to get a glimpse of what they looked like without being seen herself.
"It was never meant to get this dangerous," the second voice continued.
Freya didn't hear that part, she was too busy trying to get her breath back from the shock. It wasn't definitely Marcia they had, but they certainly had somebody and that was raising enough red flags.
As she tried to rest her back against the warehouse, Freya's foot slipped into the metal building causing a loud sound to echo out. She shrieked silently, feeling her heartbeat become more rapid than it ever had done before.
"What was that?" the male voice said with suspicion.
Before Freya could hear another word she was running. Her feet took her to the other side of the warehouse to where the other humans stood and then she ran even quicker down a small narrow path and across half a field. There was no way Freya would be able to out-run anybody whilst in heels, she'd already nearly fallen over five times.
Instead she'd hide. At the bottom of the field there was a farm...and the kind of buildings you'd find on a farm. A couple of abandoned sheds and barns.
After hearing a couple of strange sounds coming from every direction, Freya backed into the smallest of the barns.
Panting so much that she felt like she was going to fall to the floor, Freya pushed shut the door behind her.
That was when she heard a squeal coming from behind her. Her heart started beating faster again as she slowly swung around on her feet to look towards the noise.
She'd forgotten to open her eyes but once she did, Freya gasped loudly and took a sudden step back.
She wasn't alone in this barn.
