||1|| I almost break the silverware
Kaitlin POV My name is Kaitlin Drews. I'm just an average 13 year old girl from a tiny town in the middle of nowhere Virginia with an overactive imagination and a book addiction.
Everything about me is average. Mundane. From my brown hair to my green polished toenails. The most exciting thing I've ever done is go to Disneyland, and that was when I was seven years old.
I wished my life was more interesting. Like the lives of the characters in my books. A life full of adventure, and magic, and romance.
I hopped up from the foot of my bed and waded through the mess of clothes, school assignments, and candy wrappers to get to my bookshelf. I leaned against the frame and ran my finger across the Harry Potter series, one of my personal favorites. I sighed. "Still waiting for my letter, Dumbledore."
I was jolted out of my fantasy by a snarky voice from behind me.
"Are you and your only friends gonna have a make out session?" Lucy stood in the doorway, gesturing to my bookshelf.
I defensively crossed my arms in front of my chest. "I'll have you know that I do have friends, contrary to your belief. Maybe you'd have more if you were nice for once!"
Lucy just smirked. Whatever. Mom says lunch is ready. Come downstairs." She turned to go. "Oh, and who even says 'contrary to your belief' anymore?"
"Intelligent people!" I yelled after her, but she had already disappeared down the hallway.
I flopped onto my bed, fuming. Lucy is my ten year old little sister, but I think the term 'worst nightmare' is more appropriate. For starters, she's the favorite child so naturally she never gets in trouble, whereas I get in trouble at least five times a day. Just that is enough to aggravate anyone, but on top of that, she's a world class brat.
"KAITLIN!! Come down here now!" my mom yelled from the kitchen.
"Coming," I called in reply.
I should probably get down there before she has a heart attack , I thought. I rolled off the bed and slowly made my way downstairs, my slipper-clad feet thumping on the steps.
When I shuffled into the kitchen, I saw my mom putting my chicken noodle soup in the microwave.
"Oh,good. You're here," she said. "Put the napkins and spoons on the table, please."
"What!?" I said indignantly."You said lunch was ready! Why do you always say it's ready when it's not?"
"Because, if I said 'Kaitlin, come down and set the table' I know you wouldn't come,"she countered.
Hmpf. I wished she hadn't said something logical like that.
Defeated I walked over to the other side of the kitchen, and started pulling spoons out of the silverware drawer.
"I want you to walk Lucy over to Chloe's house after lunch. They're having a playdate," my mom told me.
"Why can't dad drive her?" I whined.
"He's at the grocery store,"she said.
"Why can't you take her?"
"I have other things to do."
"But-" I started.
"I don't want to fight with you right now,"she interrupted. "Just take her."
"Fine," I said, as I set the spoons on the table with a little more force than necessary.
"Don't break them,"my mom scolded.
"I'm not," I said through gritted teeth. I sat down at the dining table. My mom slid my bowl in front of me and I ate my soup in silence.
(A/N: OK, I realized after I wrote this, that you can't exactly break metal silverware, buuuuut... Oh,well! This chapter was kind of just an intro. I promise the next chapter will be more exciting and interesting.
