Hospital Trip 19
I am sorry if I confused anyone in the chapter previous. I was trying to get a few people Point Of View. But I guess I confused some of you all. This story is only a rough draft. I have these ideas that come to me (sometimes) and I just feel the need to write. I appreciate all the support but I am sorry for the confusion!!
*Halley's Point Of View*
The ride to the hospital was awfully short. I felt almost if I have not slept is days. My head was aching, almost as if I had a bad migraine but worse. I could feel the trucks engine cut off as we pulled up to the hospital. I slowly woke up and eased myself out the door. Bailey and Aiden helped me out of the truck and into the hospital. It definitely was not an emergency, but I felt like I could pass out any minute now. Light, sounds, movement, all of them made my head hurt worse, but it was only one side of my head where the bruise was. Bailey was waiting for the next available nurse, while Aiden walked me to sit down in the waiting area.
"Hey Halley, how are you feeling? You don't look too good," Aiden asked, I could see the concern in his eyes. They were begging me to say something.
"Yeah I feel fine!" I tried to convince myself and him.
"I don't believe that for one minute. At the house, you looked like a ghost. And now your turning pale. I know your head hurts with the bruise on your face," he tried to comfort me.
"You want to know the truth?" I asked.
"Well of course I do, your like a little sister to me. Way more than just a cousin," he mumbled.
"I feel like shit! My head is pounding everywhere. I feel so hungry and thirsty but I'm sick to my stomach. My 'brother Ethan' is dying and I'm at the hospital. I despise hospitals with a passion." I replied feeling out of breath. I laid my head down next to Aiden's lap and fell asleep.
"Hey how is she feeling?" Bailey asked.
"She's doing a little bit better but she's in pain," he replied.
"They should be getting her in a room in about five or so minutes. We just have to wait." Bailey mumbled, putting her headphones in her ear.
About ten minutes later they called for me. Aiden helped me walk to the room and laid me down on the uncomfortable hospital bed. The hospital is fairly small compared to the other ones in the city. The emergency room was quite big and roomy. The bed was very uncomfortable and really hard to get comfortable. I tossed and turned for what seemed like hours, until I looked at the clock and it was only five minutes.
"Hello, I am Doctor Miller. What seems to be going on today?" He asked.
"Well you see Doctor, I have been having a lot of stress lately. I lost my recent memory for a day or two. And then I woke up with this giant bruise on half of my face. My whole head is pounding and aching. Sometimes it feels like someone is stabbing me in my skull. I have had migraines in the past before but nothing compared to this. And I have not been eating a whole lot either," I explained.
"Ah I see the problem. How long has the stabbing and pounding pains been?" He asked again.
"It's been two or three days since. Ever since all the stress build up. I really can't remember much the past few days. Is their something wrong with me doctor?"
"Of course. I will set up a MRI scan as soon as possible. Meanwhile, I want you to get some fluids in your body. Approximately two bags of fluids at least and after that we will get the MRI scan set up. The best advice I can give you, is plenty of rest and when is the last time you ate?" His brow furrowed, when he asked me.
"It's been a good two or three days, why doc?" I replied, I could feel my hands and feet getting sweaty. I was nervous.
"I am going to set up your MRI scan right now. A nurse will be in soon with some fluids and I'm going to run a blood test to check some things. Meanwhile, our kitchen staff will bring you some dinner. I'm going to scan your brain to make sure there was no serious injury's I need to know about. Try to put some nutrients in your body and get some rest. Each bag of fluids is about 30 minutes. I will be back in a hour for the scan. Please get some rest." The doctor replied and walked out of the room.
"Hello miss Halley, my name is Sarah. And I will be your nurse for the time you are here. I have two bags of fluids. Now all I have to do is find a good vein to get these going," Sarah exclaimed gathering all her supplied together.
This is not going to be good I hate needles, I thought to myself.
The nurse tied my arm off so she could find the perfect vein. After a few minutes, one of them was becoming clear to see. She rubbed some alcohol wipes on my arm and began to get the needle ready. I closed my eyes and looked away. Bailey walked over and held my hand tightly, and I gripped her hand back. I flinched as I felt the needle break skin, I gripped her hand tighter. About five minutes later, she had enough tubes filled with blood.
"Thank you for your time, one of our kitchen staff should be here shortly to give you some dinner. She gathered her supplied and left the room.
"That hurts so bad. Why haven't they found a different way to take blood, instead of them nasty needles!" I explained.
"Oh come on now! It wasn't that bad!" Aiden laughed, and Bailey joined him.
"Ha! Ha! Ha! Very funny," I said rolling my eyes at them. The ought to know better. Needles are seriously one of my worst fears.
"Hello, did someone order some food?" The kitchen lady spoke, while entering the room with a tray full of food.
"Yes ma'am I'm starving!" I replied.
"Our special today is lasagna, garlic bread, sweet peas, and pork chops with sweet tea and juice," she said putting the tray down in front of me.
"I hope you enjoy," she said walking out the door with her cart.
"I will thank you!" I hollered at her.
As soon as the lady left, I began to tear into the food. It smelled so good and it was gone in less than 30 minutes. Everyone could tell I was hungry. By time I finished eating, almost half of the fluid bag was empty. My stomach was full and it made me tired. I moved the tray, got as comfortable as I could and I fell asleep. I was asleep for a minute or so and the nurse walked in. She quickly changed my fluids and walked out the door again. Eventually I fell asleep again.
"Hello miss Halley, it's time for your MRI," The doctor startled me from my nap.
"I'm up!" I shouted.
The doctor smiled. "I'm glad your getting your rest."
The nurse rolled in a wheelchair for me to get in. She helped take the IV out my arm and wrapped it up. They helped me into the wheelchair and before long, I was being rolled to the MRI room. I have never had a MRI until now. When I tell you this machine looked scary, I meant it. They laid me down on the table and strapped me in.
"Doc what can stress do to my brain?" I asked.
"Well it can cause many things. Like for an example. It can cause issues with your mood, like mood swings and anger or depression. Loss in appetite, sleeping issues, headache and pain. And under extreme stress your frontal lobe turns off and your limbic system turns on. We just want to make sure they didn't," Dr. Miller replied.
"While the MRI scan is being done you must lay as still as you can. You cannot move a muscle. But as it is scanning your body and brain, everything will pop up on the screen and tell us what's wrong," The doctor exclaimed making sure all the straps were tight.
They walked behind a glass and the machine started to move me in. I closed my eyes and tried my best to lay still. I could hear the machine humming as it got louder. After a long period of time, I almost feel asleep when it was done. They turned the machine off and I opened my eyes while it was slowly bringing me out. The nurse walked over and started undoing my straps. But I noticed the doctor had a confused look on his face.
"Is everything okay with me?" I asked looking at the nurse.
"For now it should be. He's just looking over a few spots we noticed. He will bring the results to you and talk about it when he's done looking. But for now, we need to get you back to your room." She explained to me helping me off the table and back into the wheelchair.
We strolled down the hall until we reached my room with Bailey and Aiden waiting impatiently. The nurse helped me out the wheelchair and back into my bed. She smiled and walked out the room.
"Well what did they say?" They both asked at the same time.
"The doctor will come tell me the results soon," I giggled at them.
"Well, look at our strong baby girl," Dad said walking in with mom.
"Oh sweetie, we was so worried about you." Mom cried.
"Y'all came? I can't believe it. I didn't think y'all would. Wait, where's Ethan? Why didn't he come?" I asked waiting for him to walk in, but he didn't.
"He wasn't feeling too good so he laid down for a nap. He told me to tell you to be strong and he hopes your better soon. He was worried about you and upset he couldn't come," mom replied.
"Has The doctor told you anything yet?" Dad asked.
"No I'm waiting on the results now," I said sitting up in the bed.
"I have the results right here," Dr. Miller said walking in with a stack of papers in his hand. "Oh I didn't realize you had company."
"This is my mom and dad doc," I replied.
"Well, the good news is that their is nothing serious. But the bad news is, I want to keep you here for two days to monitor you. But, your frontal lope is starting to shut off but it's not quiet shut down yet. And the bruise on your face is on the inside to. You need plenty of rest and you need to eat at least three meals a day to help recover. Hopefully if nothing changes you can go home in two days. Do you have any questions?" He asked looking around the room at everyone.
"What medication would I have to take?" I asked.
"Well you can have a pain killer or two for the pain. But we are going to put you on some antibiotics. After you eat dinner we are going to give you a steroid shot to help with the bruise and it can help get you back on your feet and feeling better soon. But you will only get two doses of the steroid." He exclaimed handing dad a clipboard to sign.
"I need a parent to sign this for me. Your just allowing us to treat miss Halley here until she is able to return home," the doctor added waiting for dads signature.
Dad handed the doctor the signed documents and the doctor left the room.
"Mom, can I stay with Halley both nights, please!" Bailey begged mom.
"Of course you can, but you can come home and shower and get some clothes ready and Aiden can drop you off, if he doesn't mind," mom replied.
"Thank you mom!! Halley I will be back soon," Bailey shouted hugging me.
"Bring me some books to read please," I told Bailey as everyone left the room.
"We love you baby girl. We will come see you first thing in the morning. Listen to the doctors and get some rest!" Dad said walking out the door.
"Thank y'all so much!" I shouted but it was too late they were already gone.
I turned the lights off with the remote, and turned down the TV. I got as comfortable as I could and fell fast asleep.
