Chapter 11
I woke up in a strangely familiar room, in a strangely familiar bed. I blinked a couple of times so my eyes could adjust to the sudden light, and looked at my surroundings. I noticed a familiar blob of blonde hair.
"Apollo!" I shouted, suddenly remembering, though I had never really forgotten. Apollo jumped up and sighed is obvious relief. He looked as though he had woken up from a nap. He launched into an explanation, and only half of it was English. He was speaking so fast, that I only caught a few of the words.
"You fainted......το μικρό.......everyone's mad at me......Γεια σου......I tried to warn them......το ποπ κορν Σκατά...Sorry." I nodded like I had understood him, but I had no idea what was going on.
(Please don't go translate the Greek. It's all really random stuff that doesn't actually add anything to the story).
"I'll go get you some breakfast, and then I need to call an Olympian meeting." Apollo continued. He had calmed down, so now I actually understood him. He jogged out of the room to get me food, which I really appreciated. I sat up slowly and suddenly realized that I really needed to pee.
Like REALLY needed to pee.
I scanned my surroundings for a bathroom, but couldn't see any in sight. I didn't want to wet my pant, because that would be very embarrassing. I started humming to myself, which was a way to take my mind off of the fact that I needed to pee. My mommy had taught me that. I whimpered at the thought of my mom, but I didn't cry, which I guess was an improvement. I climbed out of bed and started searching for a bathroom.
As I searched, I couldn't help feeling a sense of foreboding. If I didn't have to pee so bad, I would go back. I searched and I searched, but I could not find a bathroom. Finally, I gave up, sat on the floor and peed my pants. Miraculously, my pants stayed dry, but I was too nervous to try and figure out why. I stood up and tried to find my way back to the room I had woken up in.
As I turned a nearby corner, I saw a beautiful lady. She was looking in a mirror, and didn't notice me. Until, of course, I tripped over air and scraped my knee.
Her head turned towards me faster than you could say 'oops'. However, instead of getting mad, she squealed like a piglet.
"Awww, Poseidon! You are soooooo cute as a 4 year old." She ran over to me and helped me up. I looked down at my knee. I was bleeding. The lady followed my gaze down to my knee, and her eyes widened.
"Wait just one second. You're not Poseidon! But you look just like him! You must be his son."
Oh, my dad's name must be Poseidon, the chap everyone keeps mistaking me for. Great! Now I no longer have to refer to him as my dad! As I was distracted, the lady had moved forward and sat down next to me. She smiled a flawless smile and said,
"Hello, Son Of Poseidon, I am Aphrodite. What are you doing here?" I wasn't sure how to answer, so I just shrugged. Aphrodite blinked and stood up. She glanced up at the sky, looked back down and scooped me up.
"I have been called to an Olympian meeting, I suppose you should come with me so you aren't all alone on Olympus." I nodded to act like had understood, and just sat limp in her arms.
Now, I know it's rude to stare, but I couldn't help myself. Aphrodite's face seemed to shift. It was like her body couldn't decide what would look prettiest. She caught me staring at her and smiled. I looked away, embarrassed.
After what seemed like a long walk, we arrived in a familiar room. It was the room with the big chairs. Aphrodite whispered,
"This is the throne room, where we hold our meetings." I nodded thankful for this piece of information.
"Ahh, Aphrodite. You finally came what was the hold up?"
"Sorry Zeus, I was unable to flash to the meeting because I am accompanied with a mortal." I didn't know what they were talking about, but instead I was looking at the giants who occupied the giant chairs. Some of them were familiar, but there was no way they could be the people I was mistaking them for. There was a giant who looked exactly like Apollo, except giant. There was someone who looked like Demeter. The giant that had spoken to Aphrodite was identical to Mr. Lightning. Needless to say, I was really confused.
As I had been looking at the giants, I had failed to notice that they were all staring at me. Of course I had to be the center of attention. I turned to hide behind Aphrodite, only to find that she was missing.
"Where did Aphrodite go?" I asked before I could stop myself. All heads turned from me to a giantess whose features were constantly changing like Aphrodite's. The giantess smiled at me and said,
"I guess we should all introduce ourselves. And someone should explain...everything, I guess." Most of the giants nodded. I stood there awkwardly as all the giants turned their attention back to me. Apollo must have sensed that I was uncomfortable, because he coughed loudly and said,
"I will start. Hello Percy, I am Lord Apollo, God of the sun, poetry, music, truth, plague, healing and prophecy. I am your cousin, and you can call me Apollo." I was confused as to why he would refer to himself as a god, by then again, he was now a giant, so...
Apollo turned to the giantess next to him. She looked like Artemis. She sighed and said,
"I am Lady Artemis. I am the goddess of the moon, the wilderness, the hunt, wild animals and fertility. Apollo is my brother so that means I am also you cousin. You may not speak to me unless it is an emergency." All of the eyes turned from me to Artemis. Most of them were shocked, but some were amused. Apollo yelled at her,
"He can talk to you! Stop being so stuck up!" Artemis growled, but before an argument could break out, Mr. Lightning said,
"I will go next. I am Lord Zeus, King of the Sky, King of Olympus, God of thunder, lightning and rain. I am your uncle! You must call me Lord Zeus." I nodded politely and to make up for earlier, I bowed. After bowing, I sat on the floor and stayed silent as the rest of the giants introduced themselves. After everyone introduced themselves, Zeus, sorry I meant Lord Zeus, raised his hands for silence, even though no one was talking. Everyone stared at him as he cleared his throat.
"Now to our meeting. As you all know, we have a mortal child on Olympus. Young Perseus, the son of Poseidon's, mother was killed by the Minotaur, and my brother decided to bring him here. We are forbidden by the ancient laws to keep him here. This meeting is going to decide what we will do with him. Any thoughts?" Immediately, the room exploded in noise. Apparently lots of people wanted to decide my fate. I raised my hand and continued sitting there. Nobody noticed my hand for some time. Finally Demeter turned away from her aggressive argument from Lord Ares and saw me sitting there patiently. She smiled at me yelled,
"Everyone be quiet! Percy wants to say something!" Everyone stopped yelling and turned to me.
"Ok, um, I have a question. Do I get a say in what will happen to me? I really don't want to just be thrown out onto the street." I saw Demeter throw a sharp glance at Lord Ares and mouth 'take that, idiot'. I smiled softly and turned to look at Lord Zeus. He was nodding his head thoughtfully. Then he said something in another language.
More yelling ensued, but this time I understood none of it. Lord Zeus was yelling at his wife, Queen Hera, who was trying to yell over him. Poseidon was trying to keep his composure while talking to Athena, who was clearly reprimanding him. Demeter was yelling at Lord Ares, who was cowering despite being the god of war. Apollo and Lady Artemis were fighting like siblings, probably because they were. Hephaestus was calmly talking to Hermes. Every now and then, they would laugh at all the others. Dionysus was staring at me and mumbling to himself, and Aphrodite was yelling at everybody in general.
After a while, I rose my hand again. Dionysus laughed loudly and said,
"Looks like the Mortal wishes to speak again." All the eyes were back on me.
"I'm sorry, but I don't understand the language you guys are speaking. May you please speak English?" After staring at me for a moment, everyone turned back to their earlier conversation, but this time they were speaking English. I was thankful, but I was still wondering if I would be allowed to decide anything for myself.
After a long time of yelling, Lord Zeus shouted over the noise,
"SILENCE! We have reached a conclusion." I was surprised, it hadn't looked like any work was being done, but I decided to let it go.
"Young Perseus's biggest challenge without a family will be providing for himself, so we will send him to an orphanage. No interruptions. We also decided that Hades will try to kill this demigod, so he will not be safe in America. We will send him to Surrey, London. Any objections?" Before there could be anymore shouting, I spoke up,
"Um, I have 2 questions. One, why would Uncle Hades hurt me? Two, where is London?" Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Demeter facepalm.
"What do you mean 'Uncle Hades'? You have met him?" I looked at Demeter confused. Why would that matter? He was my uncle, so I didn't see anything wrong with seeing him. Demeter has her face buried in her hands, so I turned back to Lord Zeus. Unsure of what to say, I just blurted,
"Well, if I'm going to London, I better go now."
"Wait, Percy. You actually want to go to London?" I turned to see that the source of the voice was Poseidon, the dad who had had me by mistake. He looked hurt, as if by saying I wanted to live in London (Even though I still had no idea where it was) was an insult to him. I didn't understand, and I didn't care. Call me childish for holding this grudge, but what can I say, I am a child. I turned away from my 'dad' and nodded at Lord Zeus. Lord Zeus said,
"Do you want to say any goodbyes?" I nodded and ran to Apollo and Demeter. I gave them each a great big hug. I turned to my father and stuck my tongue out at him. Zeus gave me a small smile.
"Goodbye young Perseus, don't make me regret not killing you."
And with that, I fell into nothingness.
