Chapter 11

Obi-Wan sat alone in his room. He was facing the wall for no real reason. He just felt like sitting there. In the room next to him he could hear the sounds of his former master Qui-Gon and Ahsoka deep in a game of sabacc. He stared at the wall some more hoping it would give him answers to his questions. He still had not asked Qui-Gon about the data chip he had found in his lightsaber, and he was in a fever to know why. Perhaps he had not asked because he feared the answer. Or maybe because he really didn't need to know why. Either way, he had not asked and it was eating him alive. Obi-Wan finally groaned and rose from the bed where he sat and moved to a chair near the window. At least I'm not looking at the wall anymore. He thought to himself. The trip back to Mandalore was going to take about five days, they were quite far from the planet and even going at hyperspeed, they were still light-years away from their destination. Obi-Wan thought back to his conversation with his master, he wondered if his master was really that lost in this new time frame. Slowly Obi-Wan's thoughts returned to the present and he was reminded of Bo's death. A great sadness came over him and he let out a long breath he didn't know he was holding. Have I somehow let Satine down? He wondered, was losing her sister enough to make her change her mind about him? Was this loss enough to change his whole life again? So many thoughts went rushing through his head, all at once. It hurt and he felt like screaming. Instead Obi-Wan looked out at the colors streaming past him, deep blues, green and some purple, all colors of space and also hyperspace. Upon entering hyperspace one reaches the speed of light and passes the speed of sound. Though the ship's engines were loud, the ship was going at such a high speed that sound from outside the ship became irrelevant. The ship was soundless.

"Obi-Wan dear, is everything alright?" Satine said walking into the large room. Her blue dress waving around her feet as she walked in. "You disappeared on us after the evening meal. I was worried you had shut yourself away, so I came looking for you." she walked over to where he was sitting and leaned over him and looked out the large circular window.

"There are so many life forms out there, do you think he will ever be able to catalog them all?" he asked her, she knew it was a rhetorical question, not one he really wanted an answer to. But just something he was thinking about. "I'm sorry I had to slip away. I have had so much on my mind lately." he looked up and smiled at the beautiful blond haired woman standing behind him.

"I know you are going through a lot. But so is everyone else, Anakin just found out that Qui-Gon is alive, Ahsoka is seeing her former master for the first time since she left the order, and us, what is going on with us?" she asked her husband. "Are we okay?" Obi-Wan didn't fully know the answer to the question being asked, but he knew that he never wanted to lose Satine.

"We will be okay, and that is what really matters my love." he answered. "I know we will be okay because we have to be." Satine's warm arms were wrapped around Obi-Wan holding him tightly against her. He felt the wetness of her tears, she missed her sister. It had been his fault that she had died, he was not looking out for her, he was busy protecting himself. He should have known, he should have done something. Anger begun to full Obi-Wan, he wanted to scream and rip everything in the room to shreds. He wanted to find the bloody bastard who had killed Bo, he wanted to grab him and run his lightsabers through the blasted monster. He was so angry and cough up in revenge he didn't realize that his hands were shaking.

"I need to go train." he said abruptly standing. "Sorry my love I will return later." Obi-Wan walked from the room, the purple canopy on the bed gently brushing his armor as he walked by. Satine watched as her husband exited the room. She felt bad for him, she knew he was blaming himself for what had happened. But how could he had known that the attack was coming? Or that Bo was going to be by herself. It was not your fault Obi-Wan. She said in her mind. It was mine. I brought her into this, I asked her to come with us because I believe that I could protect her. It is my fault, not yours my love.

Obi-Wan flipped and moved around the training droids with ease. He knew these dumb droids were not a challenge but he needed to be doing something to take his mind of the situation at hand. That was unlike him, to avoid the problem. Was he becoming lazy? I will not allow another one of my friends to die! Obi-Wan cut into the first training droid, his anger moving around him like a storm. They all died because of me! Qui-Gon, Master Damson And no Bo! It's all my fault! "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH" Obi-Wan force slammed everything in the room against the walls, the droids sparked then disappeared.

"If you're looking for a challenge those droids will get you nowhere." Qui-Gon's voice entered his thoughts. "Why are you angry Obi-Wan? You did everything you could." Obi-Wan walked closer to his former master looking him in the eye.

"Really master did I?" he asked the he looked away. "They are all dead because of me! The clones, the people I could not save in the war, master Damson, the Jedi who died in the arena on geonosis, it was my fault. If I had-"

"Obi-Wan, you know better than any other Jedi in this order that going on what if's if the most dangerous path for a Jedi knight." Qui-Gon snapped. Obi-Wan almost felt like a padawan again.

"I'm sorry." Qui-Gon said his voice softening, "I know it is hard for you, believing that all these lives lost was your fault, but you must see that there is a greater force behind all of this. A very big dark figure is playing a game of sabacc, and we are but merely pawns in his game."

Obi-Wan walked to the far end of the room and deactivated his lightsaber. "I know you are right master, you always are." he said

"Well, if you're looking for some practice, I know i could use some."

"And here I thought you would never ask. I hope you know what you're getting into old man."

"Who are you calling old? Don't you remember I'm young again." Qui-Gon winked at Obi-Wan just before he launched himself up in the air to gain high ground over Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan moved quickly to regain his balance, Qui-Gon's first strike had make its mark. Obi-Wan had to move downward to block the strike but then had to be twice as fast to move back up to deflect the blow that would soon come from the middle. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon moved around each other in a single motion, both knowing exactly what the other was going to do long before they did it. Not just because the force was telling them, but because of memory, the two friends had remembered each other as if they had spared the day before.

Anakin walked into the small dimly lighted training room to find master Jinn and master Kenobi sparing, he stopped to watch the two of them. He saw how Obi-Wan used the walls and the shape of the room to his advantage, drawing Qui-Gon in then throwing him back out, he was going to either tire himself out our Qui-Gon, Anakin was not yet sure of what one was going to come first.

"They really do look like they are dancing don't they?" Ahsoka said walking up beside them.

"You have never seen them spar?" Anakin asked shocked, he has assumed that Qui-Gon had been around a while and that Ahsoka had really gotten to know him.

"No master jinn was able to become fully conscious only a few days before you came to arrest master Kenobi and the duchess." she answered. "He and I had been watching master Kenobi's son Malakai." she smiled at her former master, not knowing if she should be happy in his presence or sad.

"I saw them spar once, before master Jinn passed away, before I was a Jedi." Anakin started, "Obi-Wan was a padawan then, but he was still a better fighter than I am now. He was quick and witty. He always knew how to get the upper hand in a battle." Anakin seemed to admire Obi-Wan's fighting skills.

"I have only see Obi-Wan in action during the war, and teaching the young of Mandalore." Ahsoka said smiling, "I have never seen him like this." the two of them watch the Jedi masters below. Obi-Wan had just gained the upper hand and when it looked as if he had won the battle Qui-Gon changed styles. Obi-Wan was drawn back by the sudden style change and had to draw some space between them. Qui-Gon knew it was happening before Obi-Wan begun to flip. Qui-Gon jumped right into Obi-Wan's path and kicked him in the back. Obi-Wan went flying and hit the wall of the training room.

"OOFF!" Obi-Wan's body slammed into the wall. "Why did you have to do that master?" he complained as he pulled himself to his feet.

"Well you know me, if i see and easy win, I'll take it." Qui-Gon pointed the end of his green lightsaber down towards Obi-Wan preventing the young Jedi from rising to his feet. "And now I have the upper hand." he said smiling. Qui-Gon's eyes twinkled as he looked down upon his friend.

"Alright, alright, you win. Don't gloat too much ok?" Obi-Wan said force pushing the lightsaber out of his face and hulling himself to his feet.

"Nice work master Jinn, I have never seen anyone take master Kenobi out that quickly." Ahsoka said looking down at the two Jedi masters.

"Hey snips, you have seen me take out master Kenobi, I took him out pretty quickly right?" Anakin said boastfully.

"Master Skywalker, I think both you and I know that master Kenobi here allowed you to win, you know a sympathy thing. Maybe he felt bad because you could never beat Ventress in anything." Ahsoka said smiling at her former master. "Master Kenobi is gracious like that. I think we both know that little boy had nothing on master Kenobi."

Obi-Wan smiled he knew that Anakin had never known that he allowed him to win. But after their fight on board the Mandalorian cruiser before he was married, he thought that Anakin had gotten it, he was better than him. Somehow he was the better fighter, but Qui-Gon was the smarter fighter, he always had been. "Obi-Wan," he said smiling, "You allowed Anakin to win because you felt bad?" Qui-Gon asked shocked that his former padawan would ever allow anyone to beat him on purpose. Obi-Wan blushed and noded. "Why would you ever do such a thing Obi-Wan?" Obi-Wan didn't have an answer so he simply shrugged and looked away from his master. "Obi-Wan you know that lying to someone is a wrongdoing? Don't you?" again Obi-Wan simply nodded. Anakin had never seen anyone chastise Obi-Wan before, he almost took a seat to watch.

"I'm sorry master," Obi-Wan said looking down at his feet. "I didn't mean to build his fake confidence, I just wanted him to feel like he mattered." Anakin was shocked that Obi-Wan actually thought that.

"Obi-Wan you know how lying to someone can change their behavior." Qui-Gon said looking sternly at Obi-Wan, instead of answering Obi-Wan shifted slightly on his feet and looked down. "I hope you have learned your lesion my young padawan." Obi-Wan nodded and started to walk towards the door. "Rematch?" Qui-Gon said smiling his eyes sparked with mischief.

"You are so on Jinn!" Obi-Wan said drawing his lightsaber and activating it. "This time, you are going down." Obi-Wan reached behind him and grabbed his other lightsaber and activated it. The yellow glow illuminated his face.

"Yellow? That's a new color for you Obi-Wan." Qui-Gon said force calling his lightsaber to his hand. He reached into his tunic and drew another lightsaber, but when he activated it Anakin realized that it was a yellow light dagger. Grunting Qui-Gon leaped high into the air and spiraled down onto Obi-Wan, but instead of blocking the blow Obi-Wan moved, he leapt into the air to meet his former master. The two Jedi almost looked as if they were dancing, lightsabers a blur around them. Obi-Wan moved quickly and swiftly, Qui-Gon was like a durasteel wall. He only moved when he was forced back. Obi-Wan moved around him as if he were a rock in the middle of a rushing river.

"I have never seen them fight like this," Ahsoka said, "Infact the only other time I have seen Obi-Wan fight like this was when he fought you." she said looking at her master. "And even you didn't last very long, look at master Jinn, he seems to know exactly what was happening before it happened. I wish I had a connection with the force like that." she marveled at the two fighting Jedi.

"I know you can fight like that Ahsoka." Anakin started, all you have to do is look deep within yourself and you can become as good as master Jinn, or even better. I have been told that Qui-Gon's connection to the living force was stronger than most Jedi, I'm not sure if that plays into his life as a fighter." Anakin was watching the fight so intently that he did not realize that Asajj had walked up behind them. She stopped and looked at the pair, almost happy they were talking again. Asajj missed her own master, she had lost him many years ago. But it still felt like it had been a few days ago. She knew that neither of the Jedi masters would understand, but maybe Obi-Wan would. She walked down the stairs and into the training ring.

"Masters may I join you?" she asked smiling. The two Jedi came to a stop and looked at Ventress like she was their dinner. "Two on one?" Obi-Wan smiled and winked at Qui-Gon. He knew their play before they put it into action.

"Alright, how about Anakin and Ahsoka join you?" Qui-Gon said smiling at Obi-Wan, "We would want this to be a fair fight." the two masters smiled at each other, knowing they were pushing their luck. Anakin flipped down from the balcony and landed next to Ventress and was quickly followed by Ahsoka

"I can't believe I am going to say this, but I got your back Ventress." Anakin stood beside her and Ahsoka drew her lightsabers. Their green blow showing on her face. Qui-Gon drew his one lightsaber, then his light dagger. Obi-Wan stood by his master and drew his signature one blue lightsaber. He had something up his sleeve. Anakin knew that much, but what it was, and when it would happen would remain unknown until it happened.

The battle was like a dance, Qui-Gon would move forward blocking the oncoming strikes in form III's all defensive blocks. After a few strikes from all three of his opponents, he would switch with Obi-Wan. The fight continued on for a while, the two men kept their paise slowly beginning tire the younger Jedi out. Sweat dripped down Obi-Wan's back as he moved to block Anakin's oncoming dard strike. Again and again, he was so predictable, you could see the strike far before it came, his arm would flinch then he would strike left, or his foot would shift and he would strike down.  Qui-Gon gave Obi-Wan a sideways smile, Obi-Wan knew it was go time. The other three were quite worn out. Obi-Wan made small quick changes to his style of fighting before completely changing. Qui-Gon was the first one to reach for his spare lightsaber. Drawing it and holding it up he moved in faster than the eye could blink, soon he was slashing at Ahsoka forcing her into a corner. Anakin attempted to help her when Obi-Wan stepped in. he moved around Anakin as if he were a small statue. Obi-Wan's strikes came faster than lightning moving all around Anakin. Obi-Wan drew his yellow lightsaber and begun to move faster and added more acrobatics to his fighting style. This style was known as form II. Obi-Wan was one fluid motion and had no flaws in his footwork. His strikes came down in the precise place never missing a beet. Anakin gritted his teeth and looked at his former master. I never knew he had this in him. Skywalker through to himself. He has never fought in form II before, his flighting is better than Ventress and she is the only other person I have fought that uses this style. It's not that I don't have experience but, this is an outdated style. Anakin complained to himself in his head.

"Watch your footing Anakin."  Obi-Wan warned as he kicked Anakin in the leg. "You're letting yourself get sloppy. Only warning." Obi-Wan continued to move around Anakin forcing him back toward where Qui-Gon had rounded up Ahsoka and Asajj. The two girls had both of their lightsabers out. they were working hard to keep up with the master. Qui-Gon's strength and bold strikes kept both woman on their toes. Qui-Gon's form IV kept the girls in the corner and working hard so as to not get hit by a lightsaber. Although form IV is normally used against one opponent, Qui-Gon seemed to have all in order.

"I thought form IV was only used to fight one person." Ahsoka yelled over the sound of lightsabers clashing.

"Yes well it is the only lightsaber style master Jinn ever mastered. That's he became a master." Ventress said smiling at Ahsoka. "Also he had a padawan Feemor."

"Feemor was Jinn's padawa-" she started to ask but was cut off by Qui-Gon who had taken advantage of her opening and moved in to remove her lightsaber. "Hey that's cheating!"

"It's not if no one stated the rules." Qui-Gon said winking at Ahsoka as he begun to push them further into the corner. By this time Anakin and Obi-Wan had joined them and they were all now at the far end of the training room. Obi-Wan was helping Qui-Gon keep all three of their opponents at bay. This however was not hard but it was also not very easy. Ahsoka had a habit of trying to move to Jinn's left as to get out of his offensive, but Obi-Wan was there to push her back in.

"Obi-Wan, I think it is time to put an end to this session." Qui-Gon said smiling at Obi-Wan. "I'll watch for walkers and you do what you do." Obi-Wan noded and moved closer to Ahsoka. Immediately provoked, Ahsoka moved towards him. Obi-Wan was able to slowly draw her out of the group and switched to a backhand style of fighting known as form V but Ahsoka used the reverse Shien grip and Jax Pavan. Obi-Wan was quicker than Ahsoka and was also a smarter fighter, taking advantage of his height and strength. Soon Ahsoka was worked to the end of her abilities and begun to become sloppy. Obi-Wan moved in one swift motion and knocked her lightsaber out of her hands. "

"Oof!" Ahsoka hit the ground near the wall, she looked up expecting to see Obi-Wan gloating over his victory instead he was already moving in on Anakin, quickly taking out his former padawan, he knew all Anakin's weaknesses so it was hardly a fair batter for Anakin. Soon Obi-Wan was charging full speed at Ventress, she looked like she might put up a fight but as soon as Qui-Gon joined their battle it was over sooner than it had begun. "I have never fought with someone who used the same style as me before." Ahsoka said bending down to help Ventress to her feet. "They are really good, their teamwork is so amazing. Anakin and and I were never that good. I mean I know it has only been a few years but it has been years like ten or twenty years." Ahsoka looked at the two laughing Jedi masters and smiled. It had been too long, she knew Obi-Wan had missed his master. Qui-Gon had passed when Anakin was only nine years old. Anakin had not known Qui-Gon quite the way he had thought. Ahsoka saw that Anakin was deaspretly trying to get to know Qui-Gon better asking him questions and such, but to no avail. Their conversations went somewhat like this.

'How many missions did you and Obi-Wan go on, estimate.'

'A lot'

'Was Obi-Wan always your padawan? Or did you have other padawans?'

'No and yes.'

'Do you remember being dead.'

'Why?'

'Was Dooku always a bad guy?'

'Yes and no.'

Anakin never got a full answer to any of his questions so he was just as clueless as he had been before Qui-Gon had died. Over the years Anakin had asked Obi-Wan questions about Qui-Gon, but Obi-Wan's answers had been along the lines of, 'let's not look into the past Anakin.' or 'I don't want to talk about it.' So overall, Anakin was just as clueless as a stranger. There was a point in life where he would have liked to get to know Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan better, but now he knew that maybe no one really knew who they really were.
