Epilogue
Thea
Hank was coming to the city for a visit. Their relationship was sort of a long distance one. Thea still worked at her father's firm but occasionally drove away from the city to visit Hank.
Hank on the other hand was ready to ship his ass back to the city but she always told him there was no rush, he was yet to secure a solid job here and he loved the restaurant too much to leave it for an extended period of time.
He also had Lollipop and Estelle to think about, they were like a family and he often talked about how he had to take care of them. She couldn't really understand why he felt the need to take on such responsibility but there was no denying the connection between them. Even when he visited her, he checked up on them like every other hour.
It was a thing Thea had had to get used to plus Lollipop wasn't problematic so that made things easier. In retrospect, there had been friction the first time they were formally introduced. Lollipop was of the opinion that she broke Hank's heart, she made it seemed like she'd pulled an unsuspecting Hank into her family drama.
Thea could see where she was coming from so she didn't bother correcting the notion. Internally, she disagreed. They had both been played by Jamal and it was a past she had eventually gotten over.
The past six months had been pure bliss. Hank called her every morning and sometimes sent the cheesiest goodnight messages. In someway, they were alike. Both had lacked the proper love and attention while growing up and they made up for it by giving each other enough doses of it.
Thea grinned and stretched before getting out of bed, she went to the window and pushed the curtain aside. She found herself more in tune with nature now. The chipping birds outside her window lifted her spirit as she stared at the beautiful blue sky. She had hardly found beauty in nature before now but recently, she noticed every little detail and appreciated the most mundane character.
Thea sang as she stepped into the bathroom. She got a call from her father as she was about to step into the shower, and she cursed when she realized she hadn't taken a rain check on their Saturday tradition. Thea watched the phone until it stopped ringing and sent a quick message canceling her visitation.
Her father had heard she was dating Hank from Jamal when she'd felt the petty urge to rub it in his face. Lucky for her, he neither approved nor disapproved. He knew she didn't care for his opinion when it involved her love life and he had learned to stay in his lane.
When she heard a knock at the door, she was in a dressing robe and was struggling as she tied her hair. She tossed the scrunchie aside and padded barefooted towards the door, she smiled her wildest when she saw Hank leaning against the door with his bag around his shoulder.
"Baby," she whispered and jumped into his opened arms.
Hank held her lovingly and kissed her neck before kissing her lips. Thea purred like a well fed cat and they both giggled when he rubbed his nose against hers.
"I've missed this smell," Hank said and sniffed her neck. "I've missed you. I'm afraid, terribly," he said all too seriously.
"I've missed you too, mister."
They went to the bedroom and Thea sat on the bed as Hank arranged his clothes in the closet. When she heard him sigh, she knew something was up.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
He looked at her before smiling. "Sure, I'm fine."
Thea chewed on her nails. She'd told him some days ago about how Jamal had told her that he'd paid Hank a large amount of cash so he could leave her alone. He wanted her to know that Hank had accepted it and Thea had informed him that she knew about the situation.
Hank had told her about it when they started dating. She had been offended at first until she realized how guilty Hank felt for taking the money. It was then she really understood their individual differences. The money had ultimately gone towards his mother's upkeep and at that time, he was too desperate to return it.
Thea knew Jamal knew this and counted on it working in his favor. Hank had explained how he had still tried to get through to her despite Jamal's warning before eventually leaving the city with Lollipop. She couldn't blame him for quitting his search after three months since she had done a good job of disappearing. Even her father had been bothered initially until she told him how much she needed the space.
Hank joined her on the bed and she rested her head on his shoulder.
"My mom, whew!" he started. "I don't know how to say this but you remember how I told you about getting her help and putting her in rehab before moving her to a nursing home?"
"Yea."
"I was too embarrassed to tell you she wasn't speaking to me all those times, she hated that I changed her lifestyle even though I thought I was doing her a favor."
I nodded. "That must have been hard on you."
"It fucked me up if I'm being completely honest. Lollipop visited her with the kid but whenever I went there, she refused to see me. I thought it was like a phase she was going to get over but she didn't."
Thea rubbed his shoulder as he spoke, he was looking stressed and worried which made her stressed and worried as well.
"What changed?" she asked.
"She called me yesterday. I was excited to hear from her and so when she summoned me, I was too happy to think too much about it but when I got there, it wasn't the reunion I was expecting. She wants to leave the home, Thea. She said she feels trapped and I'm scared she might hurt herself if I don't do something soon."
"But what is it you think you can do? What if she turns back to drugs after leaving the home?"
Hank fell back into bed and sighed. She could see he was really struggling and she didn't know the right words to say to make him feel better.
"What is her doctor saying?"
"Maybe, I'm paying for the things I've done. Maybe, I'm paying for the ones I hurt."
Thea knew what he meant and her heart broke for him. "Don't ever think that, baby. What did you say the doctor said?"
"I haven't spoken to her about any of this."
Thea laid beside him and smoothed the wrinkles on his forehead. "I think you should. Hear what she has to say and form a decision based off it."
Hank slowly turned to look at her. "You're right, I'll speak with her when I go back."
"Great. Can you stop wearing the long face then?"
Hank chuckled and she smiled. "I missed you," he said as he pulled the knot holding her robe.
"I missed you too. I think I should move in with you."
"When did you decide this?" he asked as he pinched her left nipple.
"Some minutes ago. It's about time we moved in together and my work isn't going to suffer since I'm going back to repairing jewelry."
"So much decisions being made." he said with his mouth close to taking the other nipple.
"We can move back here if one of us gets bored of eating seafood."
Hank laughed loudly and she pulled him up for a kiss. His hands roamed over her body while she worked on his belt. He rolled on his back giving her better access and she smiled as she undid his jeans trousers.
Hank cursed as her hand tightened around his neck while she rode him. Thea knew how much he loved having her on top and when he pulled her in aggressively for a kiss, she almost came.
"Easy, bad boy," she said before their tongues did a tango.
He spread her butt cheeks and moved his hips while she swung her head backwards as she lost control. Hank looked content when she brought his hands to her hips as she regained control again. She bounced her ass on his dick until their bodies became consumed in pleasure.
She had barely gotten her breath back to normal when Hank said, "I got a job."
"What?"
He pulled her head to his chest. "You don't have to move."
"What about Lollipop and the baby?"
"They can always visit."
"But that's your home."
"Home is wherever you are, my love."
Thea felt the flush move up her body and Hank smiled when she kissed his cheek. "I love you. You give my life meaning."
"I want to spend my waking hours with you." He took her right hand and kissed it. "Not many people get a second chance and I just want to prove how worthy I am of your love."
Thea broke into tears. "You have nothing to prove."
"Let me."
She nodded when he kissed her hand again.
