Chapter 11

Hank

Almost a month had been spent working for Thea, and Hank was expecting his first salary. His mom was doing okay, still strung out most of the time but he didn't want to critique her choices. She was one of those people who had fragile mental health, and he didn't want to push her over the edge more than she already was.

Thea was in the room working while he stretched his legs out on the sofa. They had made some home deliveries today and on their way back, she'd informed him that they were going out for lunch later. His stomach had suddenly became her responsibility and that had saved him money on countless occasions. Hank sometimes tried to pay for lunch when they went out to eat, it was the least he could do.

Hank hadn't seen Jamal in a while, his step brother was like a ghost. It was all work and no play with him, he had always been that way and being married didn't change it.

Hank played the game on his phone and looked through his contacts when he got bored. He heard footsteps and Thea showed up by his side with her bag in her hand. He sat upright and raised his brows in question.

"We're going out for lunch," she stated.

"Okay." He got the car key and headed out.

When asked where she'd like to go for lunch, Thea chose the spot he'd met the waitress that had been all over him. He'd met up with her later that evening after closing from work. Jessy was bold and straightforward and he had enjoyed their time together. They had sex a couple of times and he blocked her number when she started pressing him for another date.

In retrospect, he should have simply told her he wasn't interested in a relationship. She was obviously vying for something more and he had to shut it down quickly. Sex with her had been awesome but that was it.

He parked the car and prayed that she was off- duty. He knew how petty people could get and he didn't want the drama unfolding in the presence of his boss. He didn't need her knowing how messy his life actually was.

Luck was not on his side as usual and Jessy came to their table when they were seated. She took their orders and came back with their food. Hank hesitated before taking a bite of the meatpie in front of him.

"I didn't poison it if that's what you're thinking," Jessy said. "Not all of us excel at being assholes."

Hank pretended to cough until she left their table.

"What happened?" Thea asked.

"We didn't work out as she hoped."

"What went wrong?"

"Life happened." He bit into his snack and kept chewing in order not to answer more questions.

Hank went to the bathroom and Jessy showed up as he was bucking his belt. He ignored her and went to the sink.

"You blocked me."

He left the bathroom before she could say more. There was no way in hell he was entertaining her. Her stance alone showed she was ready to fuck him up in the worse possible way, and he knew that involved a screaming match.

"I'll be in the car waiting," he said to Thea and left the table.

Thea came in and sat in the front seat. "She said you used her for sex."

Nosey bosses were worse that enraged, casual sex partners. "How is it possible to use anyone for sex? Sex is mutual."

"That's what she thinks. Why did you block her?"

"Are we seriously going to discuss my personal life?" he emphasized 'personal' and started the car.

"Yes, we are if it affects your job."

"But it isn't affecting my job. I drive you everywhere you want to go, what does a little roll in the hay have to do with that?"

"Roll in the hay? Is that how you're going to describe making love to her."

He looked at her. "Making love? We fucked, in the bathroom of the restaurant I took her to then against her apartment door."

Thea was so naive. What part of his interaction with Jessy seemed like they 'made love'.

"That was too much info."

"You wanted to get into my personal life."

"Right. Can I ask you for a favor?"

Now she was asking for favors. "Please don't make it about Jessy."

She cleared her throat and looked his way. Hank focused on the road ahead.

"Will you go on a date with my cousin?"

"Hell no! What do you take me for? Community dick?"

She laughed and he smiled. "She really likes you."

"I don't like her."

Thea punched him in the arm and when he winced she laughed again. She wasn't so bad, he just didn't want to get comfortable with her.

"What should I tell her?"

"Who?"

"My cousin."

"Tell her I have a girlfriend. Is she so entitled?"

"You have no idea."

He looked at her and smiled. She was wearing formal clothes today as she had done for weeks now. She was always in her room working, yet she liked to dress like she was going for a business meeting.

Thea was drinking with her friends. They already knew he was her driver so it wasn't weird sitting with them. Their conversations though was something else. When they weren't talking about men and their dicks, they were talking about pop culture and he tried not to barf all night.

Zoo teased him a lot and Ava flirted. He didn't want to go on a date with her and Thea was subtly asking about his nonexistent girlfriend. He appreciated her looking out for him, her cousin was a maneater and worse a spitfire. She was likely to bite his dick off on their first date and he wasn't looking forward to that ever happening.

Ava had taken Thea shopping earlier and she had her wearing a short gown that left little to the imagination. Hank had been sporting an erection the moment she got in the car and so he was crossing and uncrossing his legs all night.

As disgusted as he was with himself that he found his boss attractive, he also had to cut himself some slacks. He was with her all through the day for the past two months and had been tortured with the fruity smell of her perfume. It was so much his dick could take.

Tonight she was in a mood, not her usual bright mood. She was barely talking and mostly drinking. The chips in front of her was left untouched but her glass was getting refilled.

He watched her dance with her friends and almost followed her to the bathroom when she stood and stumbled. Ava took care of that and Hank relaxed. Something was going on with her, but he couldn't figure it out.

"Are you okay, Thea?" he asked when she kept drinking after her friend and cousin left.

"Do you think I'm ugly?"

The question came out of nowhere and he tried to figure out what triggered it. "Who says you're ugly?"

She drank more and looked away. "You don't touch me, you call me Thea instead of babe and we still haven't had sex. Jamal, we've been married for six months."

Okay! Hank stood and helped her from her seat. If she was taking him for Jamal then she was drunker than he thought. He helped her to the car despite her protests and drove her home.

"Hank?" she called as he got her out of the car.

"I'm right here."

"Have you ever been sexually frustrated?"

Hank didn't bother answering her question but carried her in. He put her in bed and went home. Hank drank the tequila he had at home and tried to forget Thea's drunken questions.
